4 About Your ipad The Apple ipad is a tablet computer running the Apple ios operating system. The ipad is designed with a Multi-Touch touchscreen and a virtual keyboard, which makes the device lightweight and highly mobile compared to most laptops. Each ipad supplied by the Texas Legislative Council is issued with a dock connector to USB cable for charging and syncing and a USB power adapter. 5 Backing Up Your ipad It is important to back up your ipad on a regular basis in case something happens to your device. You can use icloud (which is turned on by default for council-issued ipads) or itunes to automatically back up your ipad. To back up your ipad using itunes, connect your ipad to a computer using the dock connection to USB cable provided. Once your device is connected to a computer, follow the on- screen instructions to create a backup. You cannot automatically back up your device to both icloud and itunes. If you choose to automatically back up to icloud, you can, however, choose to manually back up to itunes.

6 Enrolling Enrolling is the process of configuring your ipad to accept new services and information from the Texas Legislative Council. Services such as access to the Capitol wireless network, VPN on Demand (which allows you access to internal websites from external locations), and the Capitol Apps store, where you can download TLC-developed and suggested mobile apps for your device. All council-issued ipads are provisioned during distribution. Personal ipads can be provisioned at

7 Network Settings You can connect to available wireless networks with your ipad. To view available networks, access your Wi-Fi Settings by tapping Settings Wi-Fi. To use apps that require internal network access, your ipad must be configured to allow access to the Capitol wireless network or VPN on Demand. This configuration is set up during the provisioning process. Security Guidelines When using your ipad, security is very important. Do not leave your ipad unattended in cars, offices, cubicles, or other public places. Below are a few guidelines to help you.

8 Find My ipad Enabled by default on council-issued ipads during the provisioning process, Find My iphone, which works for both ipad and iphone, helps you locate a lost device by pinpointing it on a map. Viewable through or from any iphone or ipad using the Find My iphone app. The service can also play a sound on your ipad to assist you in finding it in a crowded space. If necessary, you can remotely lock or wipe your ipad using the service in order to protect your data.

9 Passcode Using a passcode on your ipad is essential to restricting unauthorized access to your personal data and information. Passcode code is enabled on lock screen by default on all ipads during the provisioning process. If you forget the passcode on your provisioned ipad, you can contact the IT Support Center for assistance.

10 Selecting and Installing Apps Native ipad apps are available through the itunes App Store. A valid itunes account is required for free and paid apps. Users are encouraged to research apps before purchasing. TLC-developed and suggested ipad apps are available through the Capitol Apps store, which is installed on your ipad through the provisioning process. These apps are free and once an app is installed updates can be pushed to your Capitol Apps store so you will always have the latest version available.

11 MY SIGNATURE BELOW MEANS THAT I UNDERSTAND AND AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING: The ipad is provided for conducting official state business. While incidental personal use is permitted, state law prohibits the use of state property for private commercial purposes or campaign activity. In order to install applications that will assist the user in conducting official state business, the ipad user must obtain an Apple ID. In order to protect the data on the ipad and council s information technology systems, the ipad user will use the "Passcode Lock" feature on the ipad. If the ipad is damaged or lost, the ipad user will notify council. To avoid damage, council strongly recommends that the ipad be kept in a protective case. To avoid accidental loss, the ipad user must activate the "Find My ipad" feature. If the ipad is stolen, the ipad user will notify council, submit a police report, and provide a copy of the police report to council. IF THE IPAD IS LOST OR IS DAMAGED BEYOND COUNCIL'S ABILITY TO REPAIR IT, OR PERMANENTLY LOCKED WITH A USER'S APPLE ID, THE LEGISLATOR NAMED BELOW IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF REPLACING OR REPAIRING THE IPAD.

18 45 sites consisting of test, development, and production have auto VPN enabled. At least 20 of those sites have single sign-on available. We are working towards making internal websites single-sign on ready with auto-vpn when used on ios in order to create a seamless user experience for logon.

20 Personal computer equipment that is not supplied by the legislative council will be given network connectivity for internet use only. Exceptions to the rule are vendors employed by the legislative council that need to use their equipment, but need connectivity to our network as well for work related purposes. All other peripheral personal devices, (i.e., printers, scanners, monitors, etc.) will be installed and connected to council PC equipment only if it does not involve opening the equipment to install any additional hardware components.

21 Persons asking to connect their personal computer equipment to the legislative council network must request permission via the IT Support Center. A TLC technician will be dispatched to connect the computer to the network using available cable in the office. The hardware tech will configure the port to "Internet Only". The requestor's PC or notebook must have an Ethernet network interface, have DHCP enabled, and have their speed set to Auto, Auto.

22 The legislative council can only guarantee the connection integrity. It is the requestor's responsibility to ensure the operation of their equipment and software. Personal printers will be connected via a local serial, parallel, or USB connection only. Network connection of personal printers is not allowed. If possible, AirPrint is an option.
