The last date to meet the requirements is 31 December Purpose The National Certificate in Construction (Leading Hand) (Level 4) is designed to give people credited with the qualification the skills and knowledge required by the industry of a capable leading hand. The qualification is aimed at those people already working as a construction leading hand, or alternatively those wishing to move into the role. The qualification comprises compulsory standards designed to assess a range of skills and knowledge, including explaining and implementing site safety plans, communicating orally and in writing as related to a building site, and using leadership and conflict resolution skills on a construction site. Technical skills and knowledge include demonstrating knowledge of drawings and specifications, preparing order lists, and demonstrating knowledge of weatherproofing. The elective section is designed to allow candidates to choose standards that meet their workplace requirements. Candidates are required to select a minimum of 17 credits from areas including time management, on-site administration, building regulations, and supervision of installation of exterior building finishes. The National Certificate in Construction (Leading Hand) (Level 4) provides a pathway to the National Certificate in Construction (Supervisor) (Level 5) [Ref: 1131], and the National Diploma in Construction Management (Level 6) [Ref: 0356]. Replacement Information This qualification was replaced by the National Certificate in Construction Trades (Supervisor) (Level 4) with an optional strand in Business Management [Ref: 1661]. Special Notes Entry information The following prerequisites apply: National Certificate in Carpentry (Level 4) [Ref: 0016], or Trade Certificate in a building or construction trade, or have completed an approved apprenticeship, or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills as determined by the (BCITO).

Application for recognition of current competency supported by appropriate documentation may be directed to the Operations Manager,. Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided on the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) website: Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.
