The last date to meet the requirements is 31 December Purpose This qualification is designed to recognise a range of knowledge and skills for people exploring their options in contracting occupations and associated trades before deciding on a more defined career direction. This qualification is also relevant to pre-apprenticeship training programmes in civil infrastructure maintenance and construction, or work experience placement programmes. People who have completed this qualification will have basic first aid skills, some knowledge and skills in civil contracting, personal and life skills, and, depending on standards selected, further knowledge and skills in any of the following areas: Civil contracting Mechanical engineering Horticulture Motor industry Rural contracting Painting Water industry Construction trades. While this qualification is designed as a stand-alone qualification it is also designed to be able to lead to a national certificate in any of the following areas: Civil plant operation Horticulture or rural contracting Civil construction works Water reticulation Civil works and services Mechanical engineering Demolition Motor industry Road construction Painting Roading maintenance A construction trade Roadmarking. Replacement Information This qualification, the National Certificate in Rural Contracting (Introductory Skills) [Ref: 0228], and the National Certificate in Pavement Surfacing (Application) (Level 2) with strands in Asphalt, and Chipseal [Ref: 0465] have been replaced by the National Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Level 2) with optional strands in Earthworks, Pavement Surfacing, Roads, Rural Contracting, and Utilities [Ref: 1660].

Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided on the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) website: Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (ID). version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard. Accreditation requirements and the moderation system are outlined in the associated Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP) for each standard.
