1 ERicsson SPO 1400 family Packet Optical Transport platforms (ETSI)
2 ERicsson SPO 1400 family The Ericsson SPO 1400 family is a modular, scalable Packet Optical Transport Platform (POTP) featuring flexible, carrier class packet, OTN and optical switching capability in a single transport platform. The SPO 1400 enables lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) for both network transformation and new network builds. Service Providers are facing urgent transport problems that require being able to offer new services quickly to grow revenue while reducing overall cost. They re deciding what to do about expanding traffic demands that require large amounts of packet capability. Ericsson SPO 1400 is a family of compact, energy-efficient Packet Optical Transport Platforms (POTP). SPO 1400 is multi-function (TDM, DWDM, OTN and Packet), which means CAPEX is only spent where it is needed. SPO 1400 is the most power efficient POTP, which means OPEX savings throughout its service life. SPO 1400 is ideal for SDH modernization to DWDM and packet by combining low-order (E1) switching and high capacity packet and DWDM. With SPO 1400, service providers not only pay as they grow. They pay as they need and are never required to spend on capabilities that do not directly generate service revenue. SPO 1400 The benchmark Packet Optical Transport Platform (POTP) Multi Service Converged Networks Service Providers are facing urgent transport problems that require being able to offer new services quickly to grow revenue while reducing overall cost within their network. They re also deciding what to do about expanding traffic demands that require large amounts of packet capability. The ability to offer a full range of services without preplanned partitioning of network resources dramatically reduces planning overhead traditionally associated with multi service networks. With the SPO 1400 in a converged metro transport network, the cost of service delivery and time-torevenue are reduced. This has direct impact on a service provider s cash flow by increasing profit (new revenue and lower cost) and by realizing top line revenue sooner. The unified packet/otn switch fabric ensures full utilization of the SPO 1400 aggregation capacity regardless of traffic mix. This removes a major risk to operator profit given the rapidly changing end customer demands. The SPO 1400 supports all features required for mobile backhaul such as packet transport and aggregation, 1588v2 and SyncE as well as support for E1 ports and ATM. High Capacity Metro Networks Premium business services and LTE mobile networks coupled with reduced contention ratios in acess networks is creating unprecedented demand for metro connectivity. The powerful aggregation capabilities of the SPO 1400 ensure efficient use of transport capacity. The advanced photonics allow flexible node bypass and direct routing of high capacity, low latency services. Router Port Conservation Rapidly growing packet traffic is consuming router ports quickly and is driving deployment of large, expensive core routers. Operators can reduce the number of router ports in use and increase router performance by exploiting the SPO 1400 packet transport and aggregation functions. Packet aggregation The SPO 1400 enables statistical gain and traffic separation in the metro network to facilitate router interconnectivity with highly utilized and high bandwidth Ethernet interfaces. This results in significant network cost reductions. OTN connectivity Optical Transport Networks (OTN) can be used to create virtual meshes to offload transit traffic from expensive routers and onto lower cost transport equipment. The SPO 1400 provides a OTN switching down to ODU-0 level.

4 being first going fast Key Features and Benefits of the Ericsson SPO 1400 Family Hybrid Packet / OTN switching Fabric Does not lock operators into a single technology, avoiding the risk of stranded network resources Integrated WDM functionality avoids the need for unnecessary optical interfaces between aggregation and transport equipment Full range of WDM options ranging from passive to fully dynamic high performance coherent DWDM Ensures operators have cost effective WDM solutions for all network applications Class leading port density Reduces floor space cost Class leading power efficiency Reduces power and cooling cost MEF Service Support E-Line, E-LAN and E-TREE Enables access to new service revenues MPLS-TP-based L2VPNs and Circuit Emulation (CES) Enables the delivery of advanced packet services Full OTN switching at ODU-0 granularity Enables delivery of high value, low latency premium services as well as wholesale services 100G interfaces featuring coherent technology ensure SPO 1400 is ready to meet the future capacity requirements. Common network management for OPEX efficiency
5 WDM Networks The SPO 1400 uses Photonic Attachment Units (PAU) as extension shelves to deliver ROADM and WDM amplification capabilities. It is managed as a single Network Element with a host SPO 1400 without sacrificing backplane capacity. Each PAU module houses all the key ROADM building blocks including Wavelength Selective Switch (WSS), Optical Channel Monitoring (OCM), Optical Supervisory Channel (OSC) and amplification. The PAU supports ROADM capabilities ranging from 2-Way/48l, 4-Way/96l to a 9-Way/96l Flexgrid ROADM. Furthermore, with directionless/ colorless support and both OLA and OLT capabilities the SPO 1400 becomes a fully capable DWDM system. SDH/PDH Migration Many operators have to maintain expensive legacy infrastructure to support traditional PDH and SDH services. The SPO 1400 provides a practical migration path to free up this legacy infrastructure so it can be actively decommissioned. SPO 1400 features a native 60Gbps capacity LO-SDH switch allowing any new PDH/SDH services to be accommodated with all the protection and monitoring functions to meet existing SLA requirements. Innovative Packet Transport The SPO 1400 family features a scalable packet switch design enabling transport of connection oriented services with SDH performance levels. Ethernet Services SPO 1400 Ethernet services are based on the latest IEEE standards supporting E-Line, E-LAN and E-Tree (MEF 9 and 14 certified). Virtual private networking (VPWS and VPLS) is enabled by MPLS-TP. Mobile backhaul SPO 1400 family ensures economical backhaul solutions using TDM and Packet capabilities with options for Circuit Emulation Services (CES) and Ethernet interfaces (MEF 9 and 14 certified). The Ericsson SPO 1400 Packet Optical Transport Platform: Optimizes network costs to service needs with unmatched flexibility Saves operations expenditure with best-in-class power and packet density Eases transition from SDH to packet and OTN/DWDM by providing low order switching and interfaces These key advantages define the SPO 1400 as the benchmark POTP in the industry. The SPO 1400 POTP quickens time to revenue while optimizing overall cost. SPO 1400 is perfectly suited to a wide range of applications ranging from customer sites, Radio Access Network (RAN) aggregation, fixed mobile convergence and WDM transport.
