The benchmark cmprised 30,000 cncurrent users running Siebel CRM Release 7 n IBM eserver pseries and IBM DB2 UDB. This infrmatin shuld be used as an aid fr system planning and sizing t supprt business requirements. 3 Majr Test Cmpnent Versin Applicatin Siebel Applicatin Suite Database IBM DB2 UDB v7.2 Operating System AIX ML9 and v5.1 Hardware IBM eserver pseries 660, 680, 690 Servers Overview The Siebel CRM Release 7 Smart Web Architecture intrduces a revlutinary apprach fr deplying Web applicatins. It includes a Web-nly slutin with the interactivity custmers have becme accustmed t with client/server implementatins. It des s by being highly scalable and very light n the netwrk and Web servers, thereby allwing custmers t leverage their existing netwrk and Web-farm infrastructure. The tests cnducted in Oracle s Siebel Platfrm Sizing and Perfrmance Prgram were designed t stress the Siebel CRM Release 7 architecture and t demnstrate that large custmers can successfully deply many thusands f cncurrent users. The Siebel CRM Release 7 architecture features tested in this benchmark include Smart Web Architecture Takes advantage f the latest Web brwser technlgy t deliver a highly interactive experience. The interactin mdel, which is similar t Windws-based applicatins, als imprves prductivity. Utilizatin rates n the Web server are lw, allwing custmers t retain existing Web server infrastructure. Smart Netwrk Architecture Allws Siebel CRM Release 7 custmers t leverage their existing netwrk infrastructure by cmpressing and caching user-interface cmpnents, s that brwser/web server interactin ccurs nly when the applicatin requests data. This allws custmers t avid expensive netwrk upgrades that can be necessary with cmpeting prducts. Smart Database Cnnectin Pling and Multiplexing Allws custmers t scale their databases withut the intrductin f expensive and cmplex transactin prcessing mnitrs. Server Request Brker Prvides fr cmpnent-level lad balancing acrss multiple Siebel servers withut the expensive and cmplex administratin f transactin-prcessing mnitrs. Enterprise Applicatin Integratin Allws custmers t integrate their existing systems with Siebel CRM applicatins. With a relatively mdest investment in equipment, custmers can execute mre than 10 millin integrated transactins during an eight-hur business day. Siebel Partner Relatinship Management Allws rganizatins t mre effectively and mre strategically manage relatinships with channel and alliance partners, distributrs, resellers, agents, brkers, and dealers. Siebel Interactive Selling Suite Prvides a cmprehensive platfrm fr business-t-business and business-t-cnsumer sales ver the Web. Siebel esales includes a cmplete set f ut-f-the-bx features t allw custmers t quickly and easily find, and then rder, the prducts and services that meet their needs. Siebel eservice Allws users t receive self-service and assisted service ver the internet. Siebel eservice prvides custmers with a secure, persnalized experience fr reviewing service issues, rder status, and assets and reslving prblems by using a full suite f prblem-reslutin tls. Siebel Assignment Manager Offers a rules-based engine that assigns wrk including sales pprtunities, service requests, and activities based n emplyee skills, availability, territry, and ther user-defined factrs. Siebel Wrkflw Autmates user interactin, business prcessing, and integratin wrkflws thrugh use f a business prcess management engine. It is designed fr easy administratin and rapid custmizatin thrugh its graphical drag-and-drp user interface. Administratrs can add custm r predefined business services, branching, updates and inserts, and subprcesses t create a wrkflw prcess tailred t their unique business requirements. Siebel Enterprise Applicatin Integratin Allws custmers t integrate their existing systems with Siebel CRM. Siebel Enterprise Applicatin Integratin supprts several adapters. The Siebel Enterprise Applicatin Integratin HTTP and MQSeries adapters were used in this benchmark. METHODOLOGY This benchmark was executed independently by IBM under the Siebel Platfrm Sizing and Perfrmance Prgram guidelines, with test cases based n Siebel applicatins custmer requirements. These test cases reflect sme f the mst critical and frequently used cmpnents. The test cases must run in steady state fr at least ne hur, and certificatin is dependent n the achievement f certain key perfrmance indicatrs. The test simulated the real-wrld requirements f a large rganizatin f 30,000 cncurrent users frm the call center (sales and service representatives), partner rganizatins (running Siebel Partner Relatinship Management), custmers (Web Perfrmance and Scalability Benchmark: Siebel CRM 7 n IBM eserver pseries and IBM DB2 UDB Page 4

5 sales and Web services), and supprting applicatin services such as wrk assignment (Siebel Assignment Manager) and business prcess management (Siebel Wrkflw). The applicatin als simulated integratin with legacy systems (Siebel Enterprise Applicatin Integratin MQSeries Adapter) and Web systems (Siebel Enterprise Applicatin Integratin HTTP Adapter) with mre than 10 millin EAI transactins that can be executed between systems in a regular business day. The end users were simulated by use f Mercury Interactive LadRunner versin 7.5, with a think time between user peratins in the range f 5 t 55 secnds (an average f 30 secnds). The Siebel CRM Release 7 Assignment Manager prcessed assignment transactins fr sales pprtunities based n the psitins and territries f emplyees. Siebel CRM Release 7 Wrkflw Manager executed wrkflw steps based n inserted service requests. The Siebel CRM Release 7 Enterprise Applicatin Integratin MQSeries Adapter read frm, and placed transactins int, IBM MQSeries queues. The Siebel CRM Release 7 Enterprise Applicatin Integratin HTTP Adapter executed requests between different Web infrastructures. Database Setup Prir t benchmark executin, the database size was apprximately 103GB. It was built t simulate custmers with large transactin vlumes and data distributins representing the mst cmmn custmer data shapes. The fllwing table shws a sampling f recrd vlumes fr key business entities in the standard Siebel vlume database. Business Transactins A ttal f 11 use cases f cmplex business transactins was executed simultaneusly fr 30,000 cncurrent users. Between each user peratin and the next ne, the think time was in the range f 5 t 55 secnds (an average f 30 secnds). This sectin prvides a high-level descriptin f the 11 use cases tested. 6 Siebel Call Center Incming call creates sales pprtunity, qute, and rder. Incming call creates service request, custmer prfile, and activity plan. Service agent investigates and reslves service request. Siebel Partner Relatinship Management Partner creates accunt, cntact, service request, and partner prfile. Partner creates pprtunity and activities and assigns sales team. Partner searches fr service requests and enters new actin fr service request. Siebel Interactive Selling Suite User brwses prduct catalg fr several items. User brwses prduct catalg, places item in shpping cart, reviews accunt prfile. User brwses prduct catalg, executes cmplex search, purchases prduct. Siebel eservice User lgs new service request and reviews pen service requests. User searches fr service centers, sends . Siebel Enterprise Applicatin Integratin Integrate Third-Party Applicatin Enterprise Applicatin Integratin requests are made with a custmized accunt-integratin bject. The requests cnsist f 80 percent selects, 10 percent updates, and 10 percent inserts. The use cases fr the different applicatins are typically cnsidered heavy transactins. Fr example, the high-level descriptin f the sequential steps fr the Incming call creates sales pprtunity, qute, and rder use case is as fllws: Enable Siebel Search Center. Search fr a nnexistent cntact. After n recrds are fund, navigate t the My Cntacts page. Create a new cntact, entering all the fields in the list view. Navigate t the Cntact s Opprtunity detail page. Create a new pprtunity fr the cntact, including pprtunity name, descriptin, prjected revenue, and channel. Assciate the pprtunity with an accunt. Enter new prducts fr the pprtunity. 7 Using the Siebel Aut Qute functin, autmatically generate a qute fr the pprtunity. Reprice the qute after changing the price list and discunt level. Cmmunicate the net price frm the qute t the custmer. Update the pprtunity when repricing is cmpleted. Using Siebel Aut Order, generate an rder fr the qute. 10 Wrklad Business Transactins Thrughput/Hur Assignment Manager 48,771 EAI HTTP Adapter 746,676 EAI MQ Series Adapter 545,472 Wrkflw Manager 96,299 Server Resurce Utilizatin Netwrk Utilizatin Fr 30,000 cncurrent users, the netwrk utilizatin measured was 23.5MB fr the brwser traffic, an average f 6.57 kilbits per secnd (Kbps) per user. These measurements did nt incrprate cmpressin fr Web-server-t-brwser traffic. CONCLUSION The test system demnstrated that Siebel CRM Release 7 architecture n IBM eserver pseries servers and DB2 UDB easily scales t 30,000 cncurrent users. Vertical scalability Siebel CRM Release 7 Server shwed excellent scalability within an applicatin server. Hrizntal scalability The benchmark demnstrates scalability acrss multiple servers withut degradatin. Lw netwrk utilizatin Siebel CRM Release 7 Smart Web Architecture and Smart Netwrk Architecture efficiently managed the netwrk, cnsuming nly 6.57Kbps per user. Efficient use f the database server Siebel CRM Release 7 Smart Database Cnnectin Pling and Multiplexing allwed the database t service 30,000 cncurrent users and the supprting Siebel CRM Release 7 server applicatin services with 1,818 database cnnectins. 11 During the three-hur test, the database grew by abut 7GB, demnstrating that the wrklad simulated by the system exceeded the requirements f sme f the mst demanding custmers f Oracle s Siebel applicatins.
