1 Veritas Appliance Hardware Service Procedure Power Supply Replacement: NetBackup 5220 Appliance Document Number: 112 Version: 3.0 (10/03/15) Purpose This document describes the process for replacing a power supply in the NetBackup 5220 Appliance. Affected Models NetBackup 5220 Appliance The NetBackup 5220 Appliance is a 2U system with 4 TB of internal storage. It consists of either a stand-alone base server or a base server with one to four attached 3U Veritas Storage Shelves. From the front panel of the NetBackup 5220, you can view eight disk slots, arranged vertically. A control panel is on the right side of the front panel. It contains system LEDs and operations buttons, including the power button. The power sockets are on the right side of the rear panel. The rear panel contains five PCIe slots. Slot 5 is reserved for the external storage RAID controller that is installed when one or two storage shelves are used. The other slots may hold GE NICs, 10GE NICs, or Fibre Channel HBAs, depending on the configuration. An internal storage RAID controller is installed on the mainboard of the appliance. 2 If the appliance has the optional storage shelf(s), the external storage RAID card, which is installed in the PCIe riser assembly, includes a battery backup unit (BBU7). Onsite Policies and Procedures Electrical safety The static discharged by human bodies can damage static-sensitive components on the boards. When installing and maintaining the equipment, observe appropriate electrostatic safety precautions to prevent personnel injuries or device damage. When operating a device in an electrostatic sensitive area, you must take electrostatic-discharge (ESD)-preventive measures. These include wearing ESD-preventive gloves, an ESD-preventive wrist strap, and ESD-preventive clothes to avoid personnel injury or device damage. To prevent damage to the device, pay attention to the following during operations: Do not touch devices with bare hands because ESD from the human body may damage the electrostatically sensitive elements on a board. When dealing with the server or any of the internal components, wear an ESD-preventive wrist strap, ESD-preventive gloves, and ESD-preventive suit. Hardware part replacement procedure Removing and replacing the power supply This section describes how to remove and replace a power supply in a NetBackup 5220 appliance. This repair can be accomplished with the appliance installed in the rack. Caution: You must complete a power supply swap within three minutes. Leaving the power supply slot open for longer than three minutes can result in the appliance overheating and cause other components to fail. Note: If the appliance has attached storage shelves, these do not need to be powered off while the appliance is being serviced. Requirements Hot-swappable power supply unit 750W ESD wrist strap To remove the power supply 1 Verify the appliance serial number. The serial number is an SYM number. The serial number is on a label located on the rear panel of the appliance. 2

3 2 Verify that the LED on the target power supply is red. Contact Veritas Support if the LED is not red. 3 Put on an ESD-compliant wrist strap or take other ESD-protective measures. 4 Disconnect the power cable from the faulty power supply only. Warning: Swap one power supply at a time only. If you need to remove both power supplies, make sure the appliance is turned off before you proceed. 3

4 5 Press in and hold the green lever on the right side of the power supply to release the module. 6 Grasp the handle between the two fans and pull the power supply out of the slot. To install the power supply 1 Put on an ESD-compliant wrist strap or take other ESD-protective measures. 2 Remove the replacement power supply from the ESD-protective bag. 3 Orient the power supply such that the green lever is on the right side of the appliance. 4 Insert and slide the power supply into the slot until it clicks. 5 Plug the power cable into the socket. 6 Check the LED on the replacement power supply to validate the repair. The LED should be green. If the LED is red, contact the Veritas Support. 4
