2 Table of Contents General Description 2 Features 3 Equipment Box Items 4 Computer Requirements 4 Topic Coverage 4 Features & Benefits 5 List of Manuals 5 Table of Contents of the Manual(s) 5 Additional Equipment Required to Perform the Exercises 6 Specifications 6 General Description The Pneumatics Simulation Software (LVSIM -PNEU), a Windows -based program, covers the same courseware as the following Pneumatics Training Systems: Pneumatics Fundamentals, Model , and Electrical Control of Pneumatic Systems, Model LVSIM -PNEU recreates a three-dimensional classroom laboratory on a computer screen. The actual equipment of the Pneumatics Training System is replaced with three-dimensional images, which students can manipulate on the computer screen. Using the mouse, students can install virtual pneumatic equipment in the laboratory, interconnect the equipment, perform lab exercises, and obtain the same results as with the actual training equipment. Sophisticated mathematical models fully simulate the mechanical and electrical characteristics of the pneumatic components (valves, cylinders, motor, flowmeter, etc.) and electrical control devices (switches, relays, pilot lamps, etc.) in the actual Pneumatics Training Systems. All components and devices contained in the LVSIM -PNEU software feature the same functionality and appearance as the actual equipment. Detailed cutaway views can be displayed to observe fluid flow inside the pneumatics components. Used either as a complement to the actual Pneumatics Training Systems or as a stand-alone product, LVSIM - PNEU is a cost-effective tool that enables students to safely and accurately perform the experiments provided in the courseware mentioned above. Because students using LVSIM -PNEU become familiar with the equipment configuration and laboratory setup before entering the lab, time spent in duplicating hands-on tasks in the actual laboratory may be reduced by as much as 50%. This also reduces the amount of physical hardware required per student. With these cost-saving features, institutions on tight budgets can deliver a quality program in pneumatics with a limited investment. As a stand-alone package, the LVSIM -PNEU software familiarizes students with hands-on activities related to pneumatics, including flow, pressure, volume, force, vacuum, and velocity. It also introduces students to the control of pneumatic systems using electrical devices such as switches, relays, and pilot lamps. In essence, students using LVSIM -PNEU as a stand-alone product can cover most of the courseware for training systems Pneumatics Fundamentals and Electrical Control of Pneumatic Systems without actual hands-on experience. Students may copy the LVSIM -PNEU software onto their own personal computers in order to practice and prepare in advance for their lab exercises. However, measurement capability is restricted by means of a security device. Two different security devices are available with LVSIM -PNEU: a single-user hardlock key to be installed on the USB port of the user s computer or a multiple-user hardlock key to be installed in the server of a computer network. 2 Festo Didactic
3 The multiple-user hardlock key is a small printed circuit board with an edge-type connector that allows installation in one of the PCI expansion slots of the computer used as the server. The multiple-user hardlock key can be installed in servers running under one of the following Microsoft operating systems: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. As its name indicates, the multiple-user hardlock key allows several users of a network to run LVSIM -PNEU at the same time. The included user manual for the Virtual Laboratory and Equipment clearly explains how to install and use the software and provides detailed procedures for installing the two types of security devices that can be used with LVSIM -PNEU. Note that the LVSIM -PNEU can be bought together with the Hydraulics Simulation software (LVSIM -HYD) in a single package. This package, Model 6387, allows the user to run both LVSIM -PNEU and LVSIM -HYD using a single hardlock key. Features LVSIM -PNEU enables students to perform the following tasks using a computer: Install, move, and remove pneumatic components and electrical control devices. Modify or remove connections at any time. Zoom in or out to adjust the view. Perform flow, pressure, force, velocity and rotation speed measurements. Observe motor rotation as well as the extension and retraction of cylinder rods. Observe fluid flow inside pneumatic components. Save and restore equipment setups (including the virtual classroom laboratory environment). Festo Didactic 3
