Rane 3 Head, E&TC department kantiprane@rediffmail.com 1, 2, 3 E&TC Engg department, GF s Godavari College of Engineering, Jalgaon-India ABSTRACT: This paper resume work on the designing and application of GPS (Global positioning system) based technology Integrated with GSM (Global system for mobile communication) for Bus stand monitoring & control provided for public transportation. This system has been distribute into two modules: In- Bus module, Bus-stand module. Bus side module after pressing the push button driver get the information regarding Platform availability,(vacant or un-vacant platform) if the place or platform is vacant then driver park Bus. If the actual platform allotted for parking is not vacant then the driver will wait for get information regarding the vacant platform or waiting for vacant platform. The drivers will get information of Platform through messages. The GSM integrated GPS technology can also be used to get the current location of vehicles means longitude and latitude and the available vacant seats in it. ARM7 LPC2148 microcontroller is the main controlling device which controls and handle all the operations by collecting the data GSM Module as well as GPS. Such kind of monitoring systems can be used for most of public vehicles ranging from auto rickshaws to Buses. Such types of system will guide the travellers, drivers and the Bus stand controller control all terminals based on real time operation. Keywords: GPS, GSM, Bus stand (Platform) module, Bus Side Module, ARM7, IR Sensors. I. INTRODUCTION By comprehension the future scope of technologies available today we will have a various types of application and improvement of bus stand monitoring and control. Previous work on bus tracking system there is a too vast. But can t perform many applications at the same time in past work. In bus stand monitoring and control performs total bus stand activity on basis of two module Bus side module and Platform side module. Provide access to real time information related to bus schedules, arriving time and Departure time etc., through Display at Bus stands, Internet as well as Self-service Short Messaging Service (SMS). Displaying vacant seats and vacant platforms for buses in bus stand. No of present person in the bus counting In bus side and counting the vacant positions of the platform on platform side. Transport is one of the important thing of any country. The main problem about the transportation is the waiting time due to traffic jams. The safety of public vehicles is a major concern so GPS vehicle tracking system ensures their safety while travelling. Bus tracking system implemented two module one is in bus module and another is bus stand module. And most of features is try to run in one project based on GPS.GSM, ARM (LPC2148), & sensors.ir sensors is used to count enter and exit person in the bus and save the record. With the help of that numbers resulting the no of vacant seat in the bus. In the count of vacant seat IR sensors gives the best result. II. LITERATURE REVIEW There are many paper showing work on the bus tracking system in 2008In addition to author proposed some fundamental features such as real-time monitoring, some featured tightly combined with the daily operations In Beijing Bus Company are realized in the BJ-BMS [1]. In 2010Author proposed in this paper integration of RFID and GIS.RFID based Identification & monitor the system which is based on the RFID. To monitor the movement of the campus buses and their positions with help of improved system [2]. In 2011 authors identifies GIS is a system that analyses and displays geographic information. This paper target on the GIS application for Bus Detection and Monitoring System [3].Again in 2011 In this paper author detect and monitor the moment of the bus with help of integration of radio frequency identification (RFID) and combining sensing techniques such as global positioning system (GPS), general packet radio service (GPRS) and geographic information system (GIS). Author improved a ruled based decision algorithms and new theoretical framework are developed for the system [4].In 2012 authors proposed. In this system a supervisory system based on GPRS and ZigBee technology, to developed the operation efficiency of realize intelligent transportation system and bus
2 monitoring system.[5]. Author proposed this paper based on ZigBee and GPRS Technology to improve the operation efficiency of bus monitoring system and understanding intelligent transportation system. Paper gives the direction the bus monitoring system from the aspect of both hardware design and software design.[6]. I have also studied Dynamic bus monitoring and scheduling system based on ArcGIS Server technology Author proposed in this system with the strong distance calculating ability of ArcGIS, we can calculate the bus incoming time in advance, so the foreground of the system can manage and upload graphics and video information to accomplish monitoring and scheduling[7]. In this paper author the proposed solution significantly reduces the message exchanges needed to maintain accurate location of busses with minimal computation requirements. [8]. Author proposed in this system a new Flex Ray bus data addition and calibration system which is based on the high-speed and flexible USB interface is designed in this paper.[9] III. METHODOLOGY This system is categorized in to two segments, Bus Side as well as Bus Platform Side. As shown in Fig 1 of Bus side model GSM is integrate with GPS & IR sensors. With the help of GPS we get longitude & Latitude of the Bus. It gives exact location of the bus. Counting the no. of person entering and exiting in the bus is using IR sensor. Receive the enquiry for location and no of person present in the bus using GSM module. If enquiry is for the location of the bus than send the correct location to the mobile no from which enquiry has been received. If enquiry is for the no of person present in the bus than send the correct no. of persons to the mobile no from which enquiry has been received. Constantly monitor the receiving SMS regarding Bus Platform vacant status & Show the status bus platform on driver screen. 1) Count the no of person entering and exiting in the bus using IR sensor 2) Capture the location of moving bus using GPS 3) Receive the enquiry for location and no of person present in the bus using GSM module 4) If enquiry is for the location of the bus then send the correct location to the mobile number from which enquiry has been received 5) If enquiry is for the no of person present in the bus then send the correct no. of persons to the mobile no from which enquiry has been received. 6) Constantly monitor the receiving SMS Bus Platform vacant status 7) Show the status bus platform on driver screen Fig.1: Block Diagram of Bus Side Model BUS Platform Side Model is second part of the system, in this system 89S52 micro controller is integrated with GSM as well as IR Sensors for Count the vacant and unvacant position of the platform, GSM module is constantly send the position and status of platform to drivers screen. 1) Count the vacant and un-vacant position of the platform 2) Constantly send the position and status of platform through gsm module to drivers screen. Fig. 2: Block Diagram of bus Stand Platform side Power Supply In this project I used 12 volts transformer for continuous power supply. Why I am using this means to continuous power will come. Otherwise If I use a battery sometimes the total currents will loss so that s way I am using A.C Transformer. A.C transformer is giving the input to Bridge Rectifier. Bridge Rectifier converts A.C to D.C. After that we are using one filter capacitor 1000uf/25v electrolytic capacitor.we connecting this capacitor in parallel section. The main purpose of this capacitor is if there is any alternate peaks we need to reduce that peaks. Nothing but a filtering that repull s. After that we are using LM7805 Regulator Most digital logic circuits and processors need a 5 volt power supply. To use these parts we need to build a regulated 5 volt source. We make a 5 volt power supply, The LM7805 is simple to use. First connect the positive lead of our unregulated DC power
3 supply Input pin, connect the negative lead to the Common pin and then when we turn on the power, we get a 5 volt supply from the Output pin. Here we are using one red colour led to indicate the power. GPS: How to interface the GPS with microcontroller. The GPS module continuously transmits serial data (RS232 protocol) in the form of sentences according to NMEA standards. The latitude and longitude values of the location are contained in the GPGGA sentence (refer NMEA format).to communicate over UART or USART, we just need three basic signals which are namely, RXD (receive), TXD (transmit), GND (common ground). So to interface UART with LPC2148, we just need the basic signals. GSM: How to interface the GSM with microcontroller. The GSM module is communicate the microcontroller with mobile phones through UART. To communicate over UART or USART, we just need three basic signals which are namely, RXD (receive), TXD (transmit), GND (common ground).gsm modem interfacing with microcontroller for SMS control of industrial equipment s. The sending SMS through GSM modem when interfaced with microcontroller or PC is much simpler as compared with sending SMS through UART. Text message may be sent through the modem by interfacing only three signals of the serial interface of modem with microcontroller i.e., TxD, RxD and GND. In this scheme RTS and CTS signals of serial port interface of GSM Modem are connected with each other. The transmit signal of serial port of microcontroller is connected with transmit signal (TxD) of the serial interface of GSM Modem while receive signal of microcontroller serial port is connected with receive signal (RxD) of serial interface of GSM Modem. IR sensors: For the counting of the persons present in the bus in bus side and Counting the vacant positions of the platform on platform side IV. EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS More than one application perform in this paper by using this features control bus stand monitoring BUS stand activity helps to reduce waiting time of the passenger as well as helps to manage arrival and departure of buses to avoid unwanted traffic. In bus module: Collected data from IR sensors save in data base in real time mode. If the message received from bus stand module or from passenger regarding bus location and vacant position in the bus. Then system will automatically reply to passenger message. Also Driver needs information regarding vacant platform at that time driver send message to bus stand module. After receiving message from bus stand module driver park bus in vacant place. Fig 17: In Bus Modules Bus stand module: Fig 18 it is conclude that 89S52 clubbed with IR sensors and GSM and power supply. Bus stand module count the vacant platform number continuously in real time mode if the bus stand module received the message from the bus driver side or from in bus module. Then system will automatically reply to message received regarding vacant platform. Means bus stand module monitor the in bus module. Fig 18: Bus Stand Module Fig 19 it is conclude that initialize the system when the power supply is on system will automatically collected information regarding bus location means longitude and latitude. And shows message on 16*2 LCD display message like GSM modem connected and Bus transport system it shows that the system will initialized. And starts working and processing. In the in bus module count the total no of passenger by using IR sensors. Passenger count indicate by using P character.
4 message sending from passenger to in bus module. By this message getting the information regarding Bus number, bus location and vacant seat. Fig. 21 conclude the receiving enquiry message for bus location and vacant seat reading process and display message on 16*2 LCD display on display board. And also in fig 26 shows the continuously collection the information of vacant platform after receiving enquiry from driver side regarding platform then bus stand module send the vacant platform information V. CONCLUSION Intelligent bus stand monitoring and control successfully implemented and tested. Bus stand module monitor the bus stand traffic & reduces waiting time of passenger. Proposed system provides information regarding real time location of bus, longitude and latitude of Bus as well as available seats in the bus. This system also guides bus stand management/controller by providing information regarding bus location, vacant platform, and available seats in the bus. Propose system is more efficient and cost effective, it is possible to implement commercially. Tracking system is becoming increasingly important in large place and it is more suitable than other systems. It is completely integrated so that once it is implemented in all bus, then it is possible to track anytime from anywhere. It has real time capability, this system has many advantages such as good capability, minimum operation costs, effective, Strong expandability and Easy to use in vehicle traffic and Bus stand Management.
6 Upgrading this setup is very easy which makes it open to future a requirement which also makes it more efficient.
