2 INNOVATION IN MOTION The DLS series of draw-wire linear position sensors are a cost effective way to measure linear displacements up to 5000mm in the most demandin industrial environments. Usin proven potentiometer and eoder technoloies to provide analo or diital sinals proportional to the displacement of a retractable steel wire, these sensors are ideally suited to a diverse rane of applications where only minimal space is available. Applications ilude fork lifts, elevators, cranes, irriation ates, automotive crash testin and airframe structural testin. The operatin priiple Draw-wire linear position sensors measure the linear movement of a component via a hihly flexible steel wire which is wound onto a drum by a durable sprin-driven motor. The windin drum is linked axially to a multi-turn potentiometer, iremental eoder or absolute eoder. A linear movement is transformed into a rotation by the draw-wire priiple and converted into a proportional analo sinal or to countable irements. Versions with interal electronics produce voltae and current sinals at the output which are proportional to the displacement. Draw-wire sensors are simple in application and represent a very economical investment. There is a sinificant advantae in that, despite their compact installation size, the sensors can cover lare measurement ranes. 3 DLSDRAW-WIRE LINEAR SENSORS Choice of models The DLS linear sensors cover a measurin rane from 0mm to 5000mm in three models. The P offers 0 to 1500mm rane with a choice of three analoue and two diital output types. Models P96 and P115 cover five measurin ranes from 2000mm to 5000mm and offer three analoue and one diital output types. Choice of mountins The DLS linear sensors are housed in a hih strenth aluminium profile that has mountin rooves iorporated in four sides. These ive the user a choice of usin captive nuts with bolts to mount the sensor body, or to use optional mountin clamps from the rane of accessories offered. The draw-wire can be attached to the movin component by a simple hook, or alternative manetic holders, uide pulleys and wire extensions can be supplied to aid installation. The uide pulleys allow the draw-wire to be routed around obstacles in difficult installations. Interated sinal conditionin Users can save space, time and money by optin to use the versions that ilude interated sinal conditionin. The voltae (U) option allows the sensor to operate from 1 to 27Vdc supply and provides 0 to Vdc output. The current (I) option iludes interated electronics to provide a 2-wire to 20mA output operatin from a 1 to 27Vdc supply. Both voltae and current output options ilude user adjustable controls for zero and ain to aid installation and set-up.
