Yes Size 2U 1U The following table provides information on the LAN redundancy differences between D20MEII/ME CPUs and the D20MX CPUs. Table 4: LAN Redundancy & Standby IP Redundancy D20MX D20ME II, D20ME Redundant LAN D20MX supports the redundant LAN scheme - which is the same mechanism as the classic UR LAN redundancy scheme. Refer to the D20MX Instruction Manual for details. The D20MX assumes redundant LAN operation if only LAN A is configured or if both LANs are configured and Redundancy is set to Redundant LAN in B119-1N (LAN Redundancy Manager DTA for the D20MX). The D20MX supports both IEDs (slave devices) and Master devices that use redundant LAN. 5 D20MX Operating System and Configuration Software Product Bulletin D20MX Operating System: The operating system used by the D20MX is known as VxWorks as opposed to PSOS which is used by the D20MEII and D20ME processors. Both PSOS and VxWorks are made by the same manufacturer, Wind River. VxWorks replaces PSOS. VxWorks: VxWorks is a real-time operating system developed as proprietary software by Wind River Systems of Alameda, California, USA. It is designed for use in embedded systems and it can run on practically any modern CPU that is used in the embedded market. It is used because of the capabilities attributed to real-time performance, reliability, and scalability within a minimal footprint. This is a fit-for-purpose operating system that is robust and enables the D20 for any future development. For more information on VxWorks, visit: D20MX Configuration Software: Although ConfigPro can be used to configure the D20MX, SGConfig is the recommended configuration software for the D20MX and all other GE substation automation products. The D20MX hardware user s manual contains detailed steps on how to configure the D20MX with either SGConfig or ConfigPro. The following operating systems are supported: Microsoft Windows XP Professional 32-bit with 2 GB or more RAM Microsoft Windows XP Professional 64-bit with 2 GB or more RAM Microsoft Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate 32-bit with 4 GB RAM Microsoft Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate 64-bit with 4 GB or more RAM Support is not provided for versions of this product that are installed on operating systems other than those identified above, as the operation of this product has not been verified for any other combinations of operating systems. Note: SGConfig Although ConfigPro will continue to be available, no further development will be done on it. All future development will be done on SGConfig. SGConfig is a PC software-based user interface that allows users of GE substation gateways to efficiently manage configuration files. It includes all of the functionality available in the ConfigPro software while providing enhanced visual representation of a substation hardware configuration and device software configuration. 9 D20MX Hardware Compatibility Product Bulletin The D20MX does not require and is not compatible with D20ME Memory Expansion and Media Interface Modules. The D20MX s design permits only one D20MX CPU to be installed. Additional D20MX CPU s within the same chassis are not currently required nor supported. Note: Backwards compatibility with currently sold D20 hardware is maintained. For all older hardware with D20 base system firmware, an upgrade to a CCU base system is recommended. The part number of a D20 firmware can determine if a system is a D20 base system or a CCU base system. Include this firmware information when contacting GE to determine hardware compatibility. D.20 Peripherals Support for D.20 I/O modules is maintained. Data from these assets can be collected, aggregated and processed, to provide visibility of system conditions. The Multilin TM D20MX Substation Controller is a specialized computing platform designed to execute communications and energy management applications for the monitoring and control of electrical substations. The D20MX is capable of amalgamating data from multiple slave devices and D20 I/O modules connected via communication channels into a single database using various protocols. The D20MX can execute local logic, compile data, process it through one of multiple applications and report the results upstream to master stations through different server protocols. Review the D20MX hardware user s manual for more complete details. 1. Is the D20MX NERC-CIP certified? A: A single device cannot be NERC-CIP certified. NERC-CIP contains a list of requirements that are used to regulate utilities or users with network devices connected to the power grid. Such a complete list of requirements covers a wide range of organization standards and philosophies regarding critical asset s security and reliability. It also contains the requirements for an electronic device that is connected to the network grid. The D20MX s offers a unique set of Network security features that allows any user or network security auditor to demonstrate that it is securely connected to the network. It ensures this by not only providing a user with an authenticated and authorized access and audit but also allows a security auditor to account for who has accessed the D20MX. See the hardware user s manual for more details. 2. Since the D20MX does not currently support all the protocols and applications present in the D20ME and D20MEII, what is GE s plan to address this? A: The following are recommended: Short-term: o Identify what protocols and applications are critical [enabled] in your existing D20/D200 configuration file or project o Compare this protocol and application list with the current list of D20MX supported protocols and applications o Provide your complete contact information and sample configuration file including firmware to GE for support on an alternate implementation for any missing functionality. This will be classified as a product/technical application engineering deliverable and a recommendation will be provided from an application engineering/development stand-point. Long-term: o If the identified protocols and applications are critical and needed natively in the D20MX, provide your complete contact information and sample configuration file including firmware and contact GE to understand how this can be included in future D20MX release. 3. Since the D20MX does not currently support more than 7 serial communication ports and multiple nodes CPU, what is GE s plan to address this? A: If the concern is the need for the D20MX to be able to handle large configuration and communication loading, the D20MX s current design has more than enough RAM and capability to process data more efficiently and more quickly in comparison to a D200 with several CPU nodes. 12 If the concern is the need for the D20MX to support more than 7 serial communication ports, an additional 28 serial ports will be supported in the next release of the D20MX, v1.5. This release is scheduled for June What impact does a large configuration have on the D20MX? A: The following D20MX configuration system has been proven to run with no resource problems: o With over 460 slave devices configured o With over 250 devices communicating online o With 70, 000 points configured o 100ms concurrent polling resulted in 25% idle time o 1s concurrent polling resulted in 80% idle Note: With this configuration setting, 780MB was still available. 5. How is hardware and software redundancy different in the D20MX relative to both D20MEII and D20ME? A: The existing hardware and software configuration for redundancy are the same in the D20MX as they are in the D20MEII and D20ME. All hardware parts used for redundancy are identical and compatible with the D20MX. The only thing that has changed is the main CPU processor [D20MX instead of D20ME or D20MEII]. The software configuration and philosophy are the same. See the D20MX hardware user s manual for more details. In addition, CCU switch-over is now also possible based on LAN health: o If both LAN ports fail on active CCU, switchover occurs. o In the standby CCU, switchover is prevented if both LAN ports are down. o LAN port is considered healthy: If link signal is present and If far-end fault indication is not present Note: CCU switch-over based on LAN health is configurable in the B034 [Redundant Monitor]. It is disabled by default. 6. Does the D20MX support the configuration of multiple LAN IP similar to the D200 s multi-ip addressing? A: Yes. This is done through the LAN Redundancy Application. Multiple LAN IP addresses up to 16 can be configured 7. What are the key things to consider when upgrading a D20ME or D20MEII to a D20MX? A: Software considerations: SGConfig is the recommended software to configure or transfer an existing D20 configuration into a D20MX configuration type. However, ConfigPro can also be used. Details are documented in the D20MX hardware user s manual. SGConfig supports secure means of transferring files. The current procedures to convert a D20 or a D200 configuration into a D20MX configuration are not automatic It is recommended to migrate a project rather than a device to prevent partial loss of configuration data related to Ethernet/LAN A: Hardware considerations: The current D20MX processor boards exist in 3 types LF: D20MX CPU, 2 x 10/100/1000 Base TX Front Access ports (RJ45) LF: D20MX CPU, 2 x 100 Base FX Front access ports (ST Connectors) LF: D20MX CPU, 2 x 100 Base FX Rear Access ports (supports separate MIC card with ST and LC connectors) PRBT GE Information

13 If a door exists in the cabinet where a D20MX is to be installed, to avoid a pinch on the Ethernet cable while closing the door to the cabinet, the D20MX processor type LF may be the most appropriate processor type to be used. The LF processor type uses a separate fiber media interface whose Ethernet ports are at the rear. Both LC and ST connectors are available for the media interface card. Note: The LF processor type is compatible with D20 VME chassis Rel 08 or higher. The LF is currently the only copper connection type. Access to the Ethernet ports is in the front. The maintenance serial port at the front of the D20MX uses a NULL modem cable [ ]. The standard WESMAINT cable should never be used with this front port. Conversely, the rear WESMAINT port requires the standard WESMAINT cable [ ]. Failure to adhere to this could cause damage to the maintenance port and to the D20MX. Both the front and back wesmaint interface ports should not be used simultaneously The D20MX s supports both VME and non-vme chassis. However, the chassis type currently supported is the horizontal type. The zero volt wire comes as a loose item if a D20MX upgrade Kit is ordered. If a complete D20MX system is ordered, the 0V connection is pre-connected into the D20MX system before it is shipped out from the factory. The current D20MX hardware supports only 7 serial ports. In D20MX v1.5, additional 28 serial ports will be supported. This release is scheduled for June What is the recommended operating temperature range of the D20MX? A: The operating temperature range is 0 C to +70 C. Do not operate the D20MX above 60 C for extended periods of time as this shortens the life of the super capacitor and reduces the backup time of the real time clock. 9. How does configuration storage work in the D20MX? A: The D20MX employs the use of a Super capacitor. This allows the retention of the system clock time for 14-days. At power-up, the configuration is stored in the RAM. At power-down, configuration is seamlessly transferred to the flash from the RAM. This arrangement protects the D20MX configuration from being lost, even after power-down for an indefinite period of time. See the D20MX manual for steps to deleting the configuration. 10. Exactly what stored information does the super capacitor backup? A: There are two super capacitors. The large one provides enough power for the D20MX to save 16MB of RAM (starting at 0xD , which is aliased to 0x ) to backing flash after the main power is lost. When the D20MX starts from cold, it restores the backing flash to the 16MB of RAM. \ The combination of RAM and backing flash is how NVRAM is implemented on the D20MX. NVRAM storage contains configuration and various runtime information like: points configured to be in NVRAM, SOE reporting queues configured to be in NVRAM, and communications statistics configured to be in NVRAM PRBT GE Information

14 11. Does the super capacitor keep the internal clock running? A: The second smaller capacitor powers the hardware RTC or time of day clock for 14 days without main power. If power is restored to the D20MX within 14 days, the board will come up with the correct time within a few seconds (the hardware RTC has an accuracy of 20 PPM). Note that when the D20MX is powered, it makes use of a 2 PPM clock. The hardware RTC is used only while the D20MX is powered down. 12. Where does the firmware reside in? A: The firmware resides in the flash. 13. Is the prologic application still supported in the D20 [D20MX or predecessors]? A: Prologic is no longer supported. Logiclinx serves as its replacement. The prologic executor exists in order to allow existing RTU s prologic configurations/logic to be accessible and managed. However, the prologic editor is no longer supported and maintained. 14. Is the configuration file in flash or backed-up RAM? A: The configuration file is in NVRAM, with a backup on the primary flash chip. On startup, if the NVRAM configuration header is detected to be corrupted, the D20MX will restore the copy on the primary flash chip to NVRAM. Restoring from the backup on the primary flash chip would be very unlikely and only happen if a software or hardware issue corrupted the NVRAM. 15. What PCOMMON chips and versions are compatible and are to be used with the D20MX? A: Since the rear fiber option D20MX processor [ ] requires a separate MIC card, whose Ethernet ports are in the rear, the extended brackets allow for the extra spacing for the cabling and connections required from the MIC card to this D20MX processor. Even if the processor type is not selected, the extended brackets option provides the extra spacing that may also be required during installation. PRBT GE Information
