1 AXI AT D Setup Guide Product Category IMPORTANT: Refer to for the complete user guide and installation instructions before connecting the product to the power source. Setup Overview The AXI AT D Expansion Interface is a one-gang decorator-style audio interface for integrating two mic/line sources into a Dante enabled audio system. It has two XLR audio inputs and switchable 48 V phantom power, plus gain controls for each input. It features two line outputs for routing any two Dante channels from the network to an amplifier or for connecting to an optional wallplate with two XLR or RCA outputs. This guide provides basic instructions for an experienced technician to install the AXI AT D. For additional information and specifications, see the AXI AT D product page at Listed below are the basic steps for mounting and setting up the AXI AT D for operation.. Prepare and install the wall box or mudring (see the instructions provided by the manufacturer of the mounting option).. Connect the outputs (optional), the Dante enabled network cable, (see Rear Panel Connections) and power (see Connecting Power on page ).. Install the device in the wall box and wallplate. Connect AC power to the external supply (if not using Power over (PoE), but do not install the faceplate at this time. 4. Connect the inputs (see Front Panel Connections and Configuration on page ). 5. Switch phantom power on as necessary (see Front Panel Connections and Configuration on page ). 6. Launch Dante Controller and route the input and output channels as desired (see Dante Operation on page 8). 7. Adjust the input gain controls as necessary (see Front Panel Connections and Configuration on page ). 8. Complete the installation by installing the faceplate. Disconnect Power and Mount the AXI AT D Before beginning installation, disconnect power and turn off all devices that will be connected to the AXI AT D. The AXI AT D can be installed anywhere microphones or other sources are located. Select a suitable mounting location, then choose an appropriate mounting option (see the instructions provided with your chosen mounting option for the mounting procedure). 4 AXI AT D Setup Guide (Continued) Downloading and Installing Dante Controller Software Dante Controller from Audinate is required to select and route digital inputs and outputs to connected Dante compatible devices and for limited configuration of the device. Install Dante Controller on a PC running Microsoft Windows 7 or newer. For full details about computer requirements, see the product page on the website. To assist identification of multiple AXI AT D devices on the network, Dante Controller must be installed to rename the connected AXI AT D. This software application is available at On the Electronics Web page, click the Download tab (see figure 4, ). The Download window opens. Figure 4. Download Window. On the left sidebar, click the Dante Controller link (see figure 4, ). The Dante Controller page opens (see figure 5).. On the Dante Controller page, click Download (see figure 5, ). The Download Center page opens (see figure 6 on the next page). 4 Figure 5. Dante Controller Page

If you saved the file, click the saved file to begin installation when ready. The installed Dante Controller program files are saved in C:\Program Files (x86)\audinate\dante Controller\ DanteController.exe. Creating a Physical Dante Network A physical network is required to share Dante audio channels among the AXI AT D devices and other Dante-enabled audio devices such as the DMP 8 AT. Each AXI AT D connects to the network. The DMP 8 and Net PA connect to the same network. Dante Controller locates each device. 6 AXI AT D Setup Guide (Continued) Dante Network Setup Use a standard cable to connect the AXI to a network via the RJ-45 AT port (see figure, D, on page ) and power the device. Launch the Dante Controller program. Dante Controller auto-discovers all Dante devices on the network and advertises itself to allow other Dante-enabled devices to communicate with it. The default device name is the model number followed by the last six digits of the MAC address of the device. Multiple devices on the same network can present difficulty in identifying inputs and outputs. To avoid confusion, rename each device to a unique and meaningful identifier. NOTE: To simplify renaming, connect only one Dante device to the network at a time. As each device is renamed, it can remain connected. Renaming a Dante Device. Ensure that the control computer and a single unnamed AXI AT D are connected to the same network.. From the control computer start menu select: All Programs > Audinate > Dante Controller > Dante Controller. The Dante Controller - Network View screen opens (not shown). All Dante devices on the network are discovered and listed.. From the Device menu, select Device View. 4. The Dante Controller - Device View dialog opens. Select your device from the (Select a Dante Device...) drop down list. NOTE: If there are multiple AXI s connected to the network that have not been renamed, in order to identify an individual device, you must obtain the media access code (MAC) address of the desired device. The Device View dialog populates with the selected AXI AT D information. 6
7 5. Click the Device Config tab () to open the device configuration page. 6. In the Rename Device panel, enter the new name of the device in the text field. No spaces are allowed in the name. For example, enter AXID-ConfRm-A (). 7. Click Apply (). A confirmation prompt opens. 8. Click Yes to enter the new name, then close the Device Configuration dialog box. The new name is written to the AXI AT D. Repeat as necessary for all devices. NOTE: After the AXI AT D is renamed, it can remain connected to the network. However, subsequent devices must be connected one at a time and renamed before the next device is connected. Finding a Dante Device IP Address To find the IP address of a Dante device, you need the name of the device (see Renaming a Dante Device on the previous page). NOTE: If the AXI has not been renamed, its default name consists of the product name followed by a hyphen (AXI-) plus the last 6 digits of the unit MAC address (for example, AXI-0744c).. Open Dante Controller for Windows.. On the Dante Controller Network - View screen, click the Device Info tab ().. On the Device Info page, locate the name of your AXI. The IP address is in the Primary Address column (). In the example above, the IP address is
8 Dante Operation Selecting Devices After the AXI AT D is configured, the inputs must be routed to the other Dante devices on the audio network. To do this, use the Network View page of Dante Controller.. Ensure the control computer and AXI AT D are connected to the same network.. From the start menu select: All Programs > Audinate > Dante Controller > Dante Controller. The Dante Controller - Network View screen opens. Dante Controller auto-discovers Dante devices on the network and advertises itself to allow other Dante-enabled devices to communicate with it. Device inputs are Dante receivers (listed vertically on the left) and device outputs are Dante transmitters (listed horizontally across the top). Transmitters (outputs) connect to receivers (inputs) using the connection matrix.. Click the + box next to any Dante device in the Dante Receivers panel, such as the DMP 8-Rack0 ( in the example at right) to show all device inputs. 4. Click the + box next to the AXI () in the Dante Transmitters panel to show the device outputs. Routing Inputs and Outputs. Click the + box next to the input channels (receivers) on another Dante device (DMP8-Rack0 DIGITAL_IN-0 in the example at right). All device outputs (transmitters) display horizontally.. Click the junction of the desired connection (). Example: AXI-ClassRm-A Analog Out- to DMP8-Rack0 DIGITAL_IN-0 (shown at right). A check mark at the junction indicates the connection is made. A check mark is also placed next to the receiver channel. NOTE: An input (receiver) can connect to only one output (transmitter). An output (transmitter) can connect to multiple inputs (receivers).. Click the junction again to disconnect the input from the output. Additional outputs (Dante transmitters) can be connected to or disconnected from other Dante device inputs (Dante receivers) using the same method (see the Dante Controller section of the AXI AT D User Guide for additional information on Dante Controller operation).
