1 Electrical surges are a danger to protective devices. Moeller Electric provides a fully developed surge protection range for three levels of protection against short circuits, overloads and transient overvoltages. Class B devices Distribution boards should be equipped with class B surge protective devices. This type of device will discharge into the ground most of the surge voltages entering your premises through overhead power lines or through the external lightning protection system. Class C devices Downstream of the distribution board where the class B surge protective devices are installed over-voltage will still get into your electric system. Many electric appliances may be unable to withstand this and can destroyed. By using a class C device a further reduction of overvoltage can be achieved. Class D devices The overvoltage remaining downstream of a class C protective device is still dangerous for many electrical appliances. Additional protection to sensitive or expensive equipment, such as HiFi systems, computers, or TV sets can be ensured by means of a class D protective device. U1202 U
