2 Welcome to the Winter Edition of ComPRESS Welcome to the winter edition of ComPRESS, the quarterly newsletter from Sullair Australia. The big news for us is that Hitachi has entered into an agreement to purchase the Global Sullair Business. This is exciting news for our customers as it will allow us to bring a more complete range of products to market including a wider range of oil free compressors, pistons and blowers. Until the deal close occurs, it is business as usual and we are focused on serving our customer s needs. In this edition, there is a great case study on Barossa Valley Brewing, information on our Perth branch and Sullube Compressor Lubricant. Fred Funnell Managing Director Company News Sullair Australia participated in the following event: OzWater OzWater17 Australia s international water exhibition was held from May 16th-18th at the International Convention Centre in Sydney. Sullair displayed it s new stainless steel CSI machine to showcase our expertise and capabilities. 3 Hitachi Ltd acquires Sullair On 25th April, 2017, Hitachi Ltd announced the acquisition of the Global Sullair business. This acquisition represents a uniquely attractive opportunity for Sullair, its distributors and end-customers. Sullair, a global leader in oil-flooded screw compressors and Hitachi, a global leader in oil-free screw compressors, together will offer a full product line that will meet customer needs across diverse end-markets. Hitachi will also gain access to the portable compressor market where Sullair is a market leader. Both the businesses are also complimentary from a geographical standpoint. Hitachi s leadership in Japan will complement Sullair s leadership in North America, China and Australia. The combined businesses will be well-positioned to generate growth in North America, Asia, Europe, Middle East, Latin America and other international markets. In many instances, our distribution channel partners will have access to a wider product range. Given its global scale and world class engineering capabilities, Hitachi will be able to significantly accelerate Sullair s product development plans, including air-end development, oil-free technology and remote monitoring/ internet of things. The combined resources will enable Sullair and Hitachi to compete at the highest level in our industry. Sullube Compressor Lubricant Sullube is an 8000 hour Polyglycol based lubricant that has been the mainstay of the Sullair fluid family for over 25 years. Sullube has performed flawlessly in over 50,000 compressors for more than 150,000,000 hours. Why Sullube? Lubricate: If the fluid has a lower viscosity index, like a PAO, bearings will begin to wear due to inadequate lubrication at 200º F (90º C) Seal the Rotor: This is a basic function that must be performed Transfer Heat: High temperatures lead to varnish with petroleum based fluids. High temperature shutdowns resulting in unscheduled plant downtime! Operate Without Varnish: Varnish is the leading cause of air end failure. Varnish leads to higher temperatures and inefficiency. Low Carryover: More top off fluid per year costs money. Sullube has 3 x less carryover than PAO. High Flash Point: A high flash point is an important safety feature as compression affects the flash point. Every 1 PSI reduces flashpoint by 1º F. 150 PSI is 150º F less than the flashpoint. In a 7 BAR machine, flash point is reduced by 60º C. Good Compatibility with the System: If the fluid is incompatible with the Solenoids, Seals, Hoses, Gaskets or Down Stream Materials, you could end up with leaks and/or damage to your compressor. 4 Case Study - Barossa Valley Brewing: Compressor Issues make for an affordable refresh Customer Overview Mr. Denham D Silva, the founder and owner of Barossa Valley Brewing, purchased a CSF18 compressor machine in September 2005 to provide compressed air to their brewing equipment. In 2016, the Barossa Valley Brewing expanded their operation by opening a new restaurant on site. The result The equipment change was completed in mid- March and the customer is extremely appreciative with the solution and support provided by the team at Sullair. They were very pleased that Sullair found the most cost effective solution for them, rather than someone just trying to sell a new compressor and add to their costs. Identifying the Problem With the additional electrical demand from the restaurant the bottling line compressor tripped on low power. The cost of upgrading the power supply to the property was prohibitive. What was Sullair s solution? Barossa Valley Brewing met with a Sullair Engineer to consider their options and the engineer suggested that they consider placing a 13-bar pulley on the air end of the CSF18 machine to effectively drop the compressor to a 12 KW machine, which would draw approximately 1/3 less power on startup. This provided an affordable solution with total costs of just $500. THE CLIENT IS EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH THE SOLUTION AND SUPPORT PROVIDED BY THE TEAM AT SULLAIR.

5 Sullair - Perth Branch Sullair s Perth branch, is located at 46 Sorbonne Crescent, Canning Vale. The branch supports commercial and heavy industry located in the suburbs surrounding Perth, the mining industry in the Pilbara, Goldfilelds and the farming community in the State s Wheatbelt region. The branch has just installed a second air-end table into the Air End Rebuild Centre. This will improve the supply of service exchange air ends and reduce the turn-around time for customer rebuild units, allowing customers to put their compressors back to work in significantly reduced time frames. Canning Vale in Action Andrew and Richard, two dedicated and knowledgeable spare parts coordinators. Service contracts are handled by Malcolm Horn. Our Customer Service Manager, Quentin Sanders, is an industry veteran who has been with Sullair for 10 years. Rounding out the team are Christina Bates, Sales Engineer and Mark McGrath our Regional Sales Manager. With a fully equipped work shop, a well stocked warehouse, experienced technicians, friendly knowledgeable personnel, and 24/7 breakdown service, Sullair Canning Vale can deliver intelligent solutions for your compressed air requirements. The branch installed two VOC 55 systems complete with dryers and receivers into the heavy-vehicle tyre-changing facility at Rio Tinto s Nammuldi mine in Rio Tinto specified Champion compressors because of the harsh climate and extreme heat in the region. The sales and service team delivered against tight deadlines and additional equipment modifications.
