3 THE TELEPORT Major Features: Front Entrance to the Teleport Established in 1985 by the Port Authority of NY/NJ as the first TELEPORT in the world. 100-acre office park. 11 miles from Manhattan. Security provided by Port Authority of NY/NJ Police Department. Redundant power feeds from both Con Edison (NY) and PSE&G (NJ). Teleport Security Gates

4 Major Features: TELEHOUSE Center TELEHOUSE designed building. 162,000 square feet of space. 24x7 on-site TELEHOUSE security, in addition to the Teleport security. 3:1 redundant power system, commercial power capacity: (10,000 KVA). 6 Security: 1 24x7 on-site TELEHOUSE security personnel. Key card access throughout. Closed circuit television video surveillance. Infrared motion detectors. Photo ID required for access to site. 24x7 customer access (access lists). TELEHOUSE Center Security Desk

7 Loading Dock: 2 2 main docks, plus 1 sub-dock. 24x7 customer access, at no cost. Docks are raised, eliminating need for ramps. All work monitored by TELEHOUSE security personnel. Large freight elevator near docks. TELEHOUSE Center Loading Dock

8 Customer Assistance Center (CAC): 3 Control center for all TELEHOUSE sites. 24x7 Communications Technicians and Infrastructure Engineers on duty. All customer data and activities are handled via TIMS (TELEHOUSE Information Management System). Electric Power Quality and Battery monitors in place. TELEHOUSE Center CAC

9 Data Signal Room (DSR): 4 AT&T, Verizon, and KDDI are available to provide service. MCI and other providers available in the 2nd DSR. All circuit installations monitored by TELEHOUSE. Circuits are run from DSR to customer telecom closets throughout the site. TELEHOUSE Center DSR

10 Battery Room: 5 4 battery strings for back-up. Capable of handle full center power load for up to 15 minutes. Batteries designed to immediately provide power in case of commercial power loss, until generators start (8-12 seconds). TELEHOUSE Center Battery Room

11 UPS Room: 6 4 rotary UPSs, 660 KVA each, 3 are operational with 1 in stand-by mode. Even out power source to prevent spikes and brown-outs. In the event of commercial power loss, UPSs continue to generate power since rotary components spin at such a high rate of speed. TELEHOUSE Center UPS Room

12 Generator Room: 7 4 diesel-powered generators 1,250 KVA each, 3 are operational with 1 in stand-by mode. 2-day on-site underground supply of fuel, with multiple vendors on call. Each generator is kept warm with crankcase heaters to avoid cold starts. Generator operation is tested monthly, and once per quarter on full power load. TELEHOUSE Center Generator Room

13 Switchgear Room (Commercial Power): 8 Contains transformers for commercial power. Main power feed from Con Edison (NY) with back-up feed provided by PSE&G (NJ). Multiple feeds from local substations. Power distributed to 3 system set-ups: Critical (customers, emergency, etc.) Essential (office lighting, A/C, etc.) Non-essential (corridor outlets, etc.) TELEHOUSE Center Switchgear Room If outage occurs, power is directed to Critical and Essential systems first.

14 Chiller (A/C) Room: 9 Chillers originally supported high cooling requirement of mainframe data centers. Less cooling capacity needed for equipment today so Chillers have been adapted accordingly. 4 water chillers, 3 are operational with 1 in stand-by mode. 2-day on-site underground supply of condenser water, in the event of water loss by New York City. TELEHOUSE Center Chiller Room

15 Colocation - Open Space (A) : 10 Shared colocation space. Caged space is available. Access to space from main building corridor. Equipment can be moved using maintenance corridor. TELEHOUSE Center Colocation

16 Colocation - Open Space (A): Fire Protection: Halon in restricted areas. Pre-action sprinklers. Ceiling smoke detectors measure heat & smoke particle density before releasing water. Centrally monitored by CAC. TELEHOUSE Center Fire Suppression Halon Pre-Action Sprinklers Smoke Detector Raised Floor: 2 feet of raised space.
