Maximizing Pathways in The Outside Plant

OSP Pathways Underground (Inside Conduit) Direct-buried Aerial

ANSI Standards ANSI/TIA-758-A Customer Owned Outside Plant Telecommunications Cabling Standard

ANSI Standards ANSI/TIA/EIA- 568-A Commercial Building Telecommunications Cabling Standard Specifies minimum requirements for telecommunications cabling within a commercial building up to and including the telecommunications outlet/connector, and between buildings in a campus Specifies component requirements, cabling distances, telecommunications outlet and connector configurations and recommended topologies

ANSI/TIA- 758-A Telecommunications in this standard refers to all forms of information, i for example: Voice, Data, Video, Alarm, Environmental Controls, Security, and Audio

ANSI/TIA-758-A Customer owned campus facilities are typically termed outside plant In this standard, they re called Customer Owned Outside Plant

Why Underground? Advantages Maintain property s aesthetic appearance Adaptable for future cabling Conduit provides physical cable protection Disadvantages High initial installation cost Requires detailed planning route

Considerations Number of conduits required Existing needs Spare for maintenance Future growth Utilities / Right of ways

ANSI/TIA-758-A Encase bends (non-metallic) 600 feet maximum between pulling points (2) 90 degree bends or a total of 180 degrees maximum between pulling points If a drain slope is required in a duct run, it should 1/8 per foot

Maximizing Cable in Conduit Pull cable over cable Pull cable inside rigid innerduct Pull cable through mesh innerduct Air blow cable Microduct

MaxCell Innerduct Fabric Innerduct designed for deploying communication cables. The flexible nature of MaxCell enables it to take the shape of the cables, allowing more cables to be placed within a conduit.

MaxCell Innerduct

General Product Overview All MaxCell is made from an engineered nylon/polyester textile. The textile is WHITE, for all MaxCell lines and configurations. References to a color for any product refer to a tracing thread along the primary seem of the product. Unlike rigid innerduct, the color of MaxCell has no relationship to its primary use. Multiple colors are available for products intended for multiple pack installations. This feature provides contractors the ability to communicate from either end of an installation as to which MaxCell they are preparing for cable installation.

General Product Overview To answer the wide variety of applications facing network construction engineers today, MaxCell is available in a wide variety of product lines and configurations. Product Lines MXC / Standard MaxCell is commonly used for general applications of deploying new or overriding cables. MXD / Detectable MaxCell is imbedded with a permanent 18 gauge copper wire. It is widely used in longer run green field applications to enable future location of system breaks. MXP / Plenum MaxCell is used for in building enterprise applications. MXR / Riser MaxCell is used for vertical applications, either elevator shaft or data communication closet silos in building projects.

Value Proposition How much less would a construction project cost if you could reduce the trench size and number of required ducts by up to 66%?

Value Proposition 300% Greater Cable Density Enterprise Less conduit installation time and expense Fit more cable in risers Space for overlaying migration cable Outside Plant Less conduit installation time and expense Dig smaller trenches Faster installation

Value Proposition Safely Overlays Existing Cables or Innerduct If a contractor using MaxCell is bidding against a contractor using rigid in an overlay opportunity MaxCell Wins! Enterprise Add cables to existing riser Overlay fiber to an existing UTP pathway Outside Plant Overlay options can offer a NO DIG SOLUTION

Performance Advantages MaxCell Maintains Low Cable Pulling Tensions Coefficient of Friction of MaxCell = to 0.06, 06 while HDPE = 0.08 to 0.10 MaxCell will not twist during installation when using swivels MaxCell will not creep or walk while installing cables MaxCell Protects the Cable and Conduit Pull Tape will NOT burn through MaxCell Melting Point of MaxCell = 248 C, while HDPE = 110 C Separates cables to prevent abrasion

MaxCell Markets Universities, Colleges, and K-12 that continue to expand networks to bring services to the classroom, dorm, or desk. Airports, both internal to terminal/gate service offerings as well as field based communication systems.

MaxCell Markets Cable TV An historic market for MaxCell, awaiting the sure-to-come replacement of a coaxial based network with full fiber technologies. Telecom/RBOCs Current significant market of MaxCell with VIOS and FTTx network construction combined with Fiber technologies replacing antiquated twisted pair networks.

MaxCell Markets Enterprise/Fortune 500 Large multiple building corporate campuses as part of large Enterprise market. Cellular Towers Recent market developed over need of providers to hard wire base stations to near by land lines due to bandwidth limitations

Value Proposition Lower Shipping Costs MaxCell is 1/12 th the Weight Lower Warehousing Costs MaxCell is 1/7 th the Volume 48,000 Rigid Innerduct Feet 7 Reels 13,700 lbs 224 Sq. feet 48,000 MaxCell 3 3 Cell Feet 3 Reels 1,500lbs 36 Sq. feet

Standards NECA s Manual of Labor Units (MLU) Shows that the time to place 1000 feet of one three inch, three cell is 8 hours Shows that the time to place 100 feet of one inch innerduct is 3 hours

Standards By using MaxCell, aren t you exceeding the maximum fill ratio for a conduit stated in the BICSI and ANSI documents? Answer- There are no fill ratios for OSP Answer- ANSI/TIA-569 Pathways and Spaces says the conduit should ldbe designed d at a maximum fill ratio

Standards Is fabric mesh hinnerduct recognized din the BICSI OSP manual? The ANSI OSP 758 standard Answer- YES and YES
