2 CREATING A SPEAKER S BUREAU 101 CREATE A SPEAKER S PROFILE A speakers profile is a document that explains who the speaker is. This document should include a brief biography of the speaker including his/ her experiences, awards, and other achievements that give the speaker credibility to speak on the topic that you are trying to portray. Include a professional picture of the speaker and your company logo as well. SUGGESTED SPEAKING TOPICS Include all of the possible topics that the speaker can speak about. Giving the organization you wish to speak to options will give you more of a chance in securing the gig. Each topic you present should also include a short summary explaining what the audience should expect and learn from your speech. Include the amount of time each speech typically lasts and what demographic they are aimed at. Listing quotes by other s that have heard the speaker s presentation in the past can be a helpful addition, increasing the odds that you will get booked. { They WANT you to call! } SUMMARY OF COMPANY If your speaker is speaking on behalf of the company they work for be sure to include a brief description of the company, along with a link to the company website. This will give the organization an opportunity to learn about the company s history and see if it is a fit for what they are looking for. Within this summary, be sure to include the contact information of a representative of the company so the organization you will be speaking for can contact your company if any other information is needed. PHONE PITCHES Your phone pitch will be helpful when you are making those endless calls to organizations to try and secure a speaking engagement. Write yourself an opening line and prepare questions so the call goes smoothly. Also, have your calendar out and ready to help you with scheduling. Even though you may be dreading these calls the have to be done. Just remember this in not a typical cold call. The businesses you are calling have programs that speakers are needed for. They WANT you to call. CONFIRMATION Once you have secured an opportunity, follow up with the organization with a confirmation letter. Having it on paper will create more security. The last thing you want is your hard work of calling and securing a gig to be forgotten conversation. 1

3 TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS How do I get to Carnegie Hall? { Securing a successful speaking engagement is all about preparartion! } 5 Avoid disagreements with the audience.
