With regards to R&D, the Cluster and Program Management Office (CPMO) of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and Thailand Railway Technology Development Institute Project (ThaiRailTech) with supporting budget from National Research - 1 -

2 Council of Thailand (NRCT) since 2013 have been assigned to manage research programs responsive to national rail transportation demand whereas the research results have been presented to beneficiary organizations since Subsequently, The First Thai Rail Industry Symposium and Exhibition (RISE 1) was organized in 2015 to showcase the rail related research to develop national rail industry while the Second event (RISE 2) in 2016 emphasized on standardization of rail spare part manufacturing. In 2017, with an aim to support the policy to increase development capacity of the rail related industries and effective technology transfer, the RISE 3 entitled the Future of Thai Rail Industry: Opportunities and Challenges in Development through Industrial Collaboration Strategy aims to accentuate the concept and practice of offset program which is the procurement strategy with condition to compensate the purchase via appropriate schemes to nurture the purchasing nation s development and to ensure prompt implementation which would in turn render stability and sustainability of rail industry of the purchasing nation. Similar to the preceding events, RISE 3 would entail various academic talks and seminars along with presentations of rail related research receiving budget of 2015 and numerous exhibitions and booths from rail related industries and partners. The Third Thai Rail Industry Symposium and Exhibition 2017: RISE 3 is organized under the collaboration of NSTDA by ThaiRailTech, Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP), National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), Airport Rail Link (SRTET), Mass Rapid Transport Authority of Thailand (MRTA), Thai Railway Engineering Association (TREA) and Railway Technical Research Institute (RTRI) of Japan
