3 A Message From The President Dear Members, We are a couple months into another very successful Chapter year. Earlier this month, we had our first ever Member Appreciation Seminar with over 200 members in attendance. This was an opportunity for the Chapter to give back to the members and show our appreciation for your continued support by providing quality low cost CPE. Based on feedback from those in attendance, we are reviewing other potential opportunities to provide quality in-depth training to our members and professional community. With great speakers lined up through the end of 2015, our focus is now turning to our next big all-day event - the 2nd Annual 'I Heart Audit' Conference. Scheduled for Wednesday, 2/24/16 at the La Cantera Hill Country Resort, this event is considered the marquee conference event for the San Antonio IIA Chapter. Earlier this year, over 200 members and Audit professionals from San Antonio and surrounding areas attended the 2015 conference and we are hoping to attract even more attendees this year. With the planning in motion, we are currently looking for companies that would be interested in being a sponsor at next year's conference. Sponsorship benefits include: Recognition in all Conference advertising materials, Conference event signage and promotional materials, Exhibitor space, Ability to provide a speaker, and complementary attendees. Finally, I know many of you have experienced issues with our existing event registration tool and I am pleased to announce that we are in the final stages of rolling out our new event registration tool etouches. IIA headquarters has worked with etouches to build out standardized IIA templates for registration forms, surveys, and CPE certificates. They are also continuing to integrate etouches with their various systems and it should streamline processes for both the officers and our members. The October meeting will be the first to use etouches and we welcome any feedback you may have. I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming meetings and events and appreciate your continued support. 4 IIA Blog - Richard Chambers President and CEO of the IIA In a blog earlier this year, I sounded an alarm about the dangers of investing in companies with no internal audit function. Ultimately, the goal was to raise awareness of the risks that accompany the absence of internal audit in publicly traded companies. That effort took an important step forward last week when The IIA formally recommended to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that all publicly traded companies be required to have an internal audit function. There have been a number of high-profile financial and corporate governance scandals of late that should hammer home the absolutely necessity of good corporate governance, and it should go without saying that internal audit adds value to that process by providing effective oversight of the control environment. The course also outlines some practical approaches to incorporating data analytics into your Internal Audit processes. In this role, Carolyn partners with Internal and External Audit to deliver data analytics capabilities to clients across industry sectors.
