3 CAI Milestones: Joint Sustainable Development Commitment of CA countries at WSSD, Johannesburg, 2002 CAI Invitation to Partnership was endorsed by the 5th Pan- European Environmental Conference, Kiev 2003 CAI was recognized by 6th Pan-European Environmental Conference, Belgrade, 2007 as a platform for cooperation in CA and for implementation of concrete projects, where it possible through CAREC CAREC and CAI CAI after Belgrade thematic focuses are: Coordinated approach to water management Improved Environmental Management Education for Sustainable Development Civil Society Initiatives Support Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Promotion of Sustainable Livelihood CAI for Astana 2011: Linking EU Strategy for CA to EfE Results of activity under thematic focuses Gateway for private sector and local communities

4 National and Regional multi-stakeholder CAI Water Dialogues: assessing needs for concrete localities Three national dialogues held (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan) 8 transboundary water project localities are identified 2 more national dialogues to be held and more localities identified 1 regional dialogue to be held for final identification and recognition of project localities CAREC ongoing contribution for CAI National and Regional Multi-stakeholders CAI Environmental Policy Dialogues: contribution to national policies and efforts for Astana 2010, 2011 Three national dialogues held (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan) National policies and practices to be addressed are identified Two MOU are achieved to support countries in their preparation to Astana 2010 and more national dialogues to be held 1 regional dialogue to be held Climate Change Gap Analysis: interview of Multistakeholder groups: - follow up analysis and need assessment

5 Main outcomes of national ecopolicy dialogs MoU between the MEP RK, UNDP Kazakhstan, KBASD and CAREC for preparation and holding of the Conferences Astana 2010 and Astana 2011 Design to establish the add-hock Advisory Council under the cross-secrotal working Group on preparation for the Conferences Astana 2010 and Astana 2011 Support of the Central Asian countries in preparation for the Conferences Astana 2010 and Astana 2011 Project portfolio to enhance the capacity of stakeholders of Central Asia countries and pilot projects in frame of CAI priorities.

6 Add-hock Advisory Council (AAC) with the Interagency Working Group on preparations for the Conference Astana 2010 and Astana 2011 The main purpose of the AAC: cross-sectoral cooperation and support and content preparation and holding of the 6 th Ministerial Conference on Environment and Development in Asia and the Pacific and the 7th Ministerial Conference "Environment for Europe The objectives of the AAC: Formulation of proposals to the WG on the consolidation of efforts of all stakeholders, especially the business community in the process of preparations for the Conference of 2010 and 2011 The mobilization of society and the resources to achieve practical results and their demonstration at the conferences Astana 2010 and Astana 2011 Informing and raising awareness of stakeholders and society Organization of activities of the AAC: Quarterly meetings Secretariat of the Council - CAREC Development and implementation of program activities
