1 Installation instructions for Choic Enterprise. Please read this document in full before installing Choic Enterprise Files needed: Choic Enterprise Installation Package- the latest Installation Package is available at: Choic Enterprise sits between your corporate mail server and the internet. Two possible installation scenarios are available. 1. Install Choic Enterprise on the same machine with your existing corporate mail server. 2. Install Choic on a different computer on your network. Note that the computer running Choic Enterprise must be the primary MX record for the domains that need to be protected or it must be the first point in your route to your corporate mail server. Using option 1 The SMTP port for your main mail server must be changed from 25 to some other port that is free. Using option 2 You can either change your MX record or assign a different IP address to your main mail server and your primary MX record address to the Choic server. If you are using a firewall simply change the route on port 25 (standard SMTP port) to the new Choic Enterprise server IP Address. For both options After the steps in either option 1 or option 2 are performed, install the Choic Enterprise through the supplied installer, normally called CMEnterpriseInstaller.exe. During the installation, two confirmation boxes should appear confirming that each of two services have been installed and are now running. A shortcut will be placed in your start menu and on your desktop labeled Configure Choic Enterprise. You will use this tool to configure and change the settings for Choic Enterprise Server so please start it now to perform basic configuration.

2 Configuring Choic Enterprise Server Option 1 If Choic Enterprise is installed on the same machine as your existing mail server, then you should already have changed the SMTP port number on your corporate mail server to some value other than 25. In this case, make sure that the port number for Corporate Mail Server in the Choic Enterprise Server Options section is changed to the same port. Also enter the IP address of your corporate mail server. If you installed Choic Enterprise on the same machine as your corporate mail server, then the IP address will be or the internal IP address of that server.

3 Under General Settings, the Outgoing server IP address should always be set to so that Choic Enterprise can communicate with the Choic SMTP Server that is installed on the same machine by default. The default port for that outgoing server (SMTP) is 30. The standard SMTP port (25) must not be used by any other application on the machine where Choic Enterprise is installed as Choic Enterprise must use that port to accept incoming mail connection from the internet. The settings for the Choic Outgoing service should already be correct. Make sure that the domain name matches your real domain name used in your addresses. The port should be left at the default value of 30 unless there are conflicts with other applications. Optional: Choic Enterprise contains its own web server to allow users to manage their settings through a web browser and through wireless PDAs. However, to reduce bandwidth, you can configure Choic Enterprise s web server so that images are delivered to client browsers from some other machine such as through an existing web server optimized for this purpose. To do this, you can copy all the files that are in Templates\images (a subfolder under the Choic Enterprise installation folder) to some other machine and configure Choic with the location of those files on your web server.

4 What happens after installation? Technically speaking no immediate changes will be visible at this stage. All your mail will simply go to your mail server as it did before Choic installation. Choic will simply pass through all s without any analysis. The benefit of this is that you will be able to users as you please over time, rather than having to commit your entire company to the new process before you are ready. Make sure that you start both servers Choic Enterprise Server and Outgoing Server. If either one of the servers starts and then stops after a second or two automatically you most likely have a port conflict with the other application. Take a look at your event log it should contain the reason for the startup failure. Also check all other ports that Choic is using and try to change them to different values. Choic Enterprise has the ability to selectively protect mailboxes from spam while leaving others unblocked. To start protecting one or more addresses a username needs to be created and one or more addresses associated with that account.

5 Create a new Choic user account Click on User Management button from the main Choic Enterprise Control Panel window. A simple user setup dialog will appear. Click on the Add button to add a new user account. Enter a username and afterwards the password for this account. You will notice a simple box where you can type addresses that this account should be attached to. You can enter the address (one per line) now, do it later or let that user enter it through his or her web browser. No other information is necessary so click on the OK button to save your changes. You can create several user accounts this way. Note that flow will remain unfiltered if you do not assign any addresses to these accounts. Now you are ready to log on to your newly create account from a web browser. Open your browser and point to the Choic server IP address port If you are doing this from the same machine the URL would be All port numbers can be changed in the setup dialog.

6 Type in your username and password to log on. You will be prompted to retype a new password if that option was checked during user creation process. Now is a good time to import your existing contacts into your white list to avoid asking your existing contacts to fill out the registration form. Click on the Import Address Book and point to a CSV file located on your local computer containing your address book. Almost every application allows you to export your contacts or address book into a CSV file. Click on the Addresses link that is located on the main menu (left hand side). A page will appear where you can enter one or more addresses that will be associated with this account. (This step is needed if you did not already assign one or more accounts to this username) At this point Choic will start protecting those addresses from spam based on the white/black list, rules and other settings you have for this account. All your internal mail will flow without interruption. There is no need to install any software on the client machines. You will have the same abilities while reading your mail as you did before installing Choic . Everything that worked before installing Choic will continue to work after installing Choic Server without any changes except of course that there will be no spam in protected mailboxes. Note that in the current version there are options for adding POP3 sources however this feature is currently not supported. To take advantage of the automatic pre-approval process your corporate mail server must relay all outgoing mail to the Choic server proxy port (default 35). Please consult your Corporate Mail Server documentation to get help about this option or send us an and we will try to help you. If your clients use SMTP to send mail please change the address and port number of the outgoing sever on your clients to enable the pre-approval process. This address should be the IP address or hostname of the machine where Choic is installed, but note that PORT number will never be 25 it must be set to Choic Enterprise s PROXY port number (default is 35) We thank you for your interest in Choic Enterprise. Note: For installation on NT 4.0 Sometimes services are not installed correctly by the Choic Enterprise Installer with NT 4.0 in that case the Control Panel will not open after the install. If this happens for any reason you must do the following. 1) Go to the folder where Choic Enterprise is installed (default is c:\program files\digiportal software\cm enterprise\). 2) Double click on a file called uninstallsvc.cmd (ignore any errors that might show up). 3) Doubleclick on a file called installsvc.cmd. 4) Restart the services
