Charging and data usage Pay for what you do not how long it takes Mobile Web charges are based on the amount of data you send or receive rather than the amount of time you are connected. Once you ve downloaded a web page or an , you can take as long as you like to read it it won t cost a penny more. As your usage changes you can choose a more suitable tariff at the end of any monthly billing period. Mobile Web Your mobile number: 077######## You have 4 MB free mobile web use per month You have carried forward 1 MB free from last month You have a total of 5 MB free to use in this month Carry over your unused inclusive allowance If you have an inclusive allowance with your tariff and don t use it all in the month, you can carry over to the following month. Your rolled over allowance will be used first before you start using the current month s allowance. Any surplus data allowance can only be rolled over for one billing month

Your Mobile Web usage At the end of 22/04/2002 You have used 3 MB this month You have 2 MB free usage remaining this month Mobile Web usage indicator.* Available online for you to access at any stage, your Mobile Web usage indicator will keep you up to speed with your MB allowance how much you ve used and what s remaining. If you have an allowance option on your tariff it will also provide information about any inclusive allowance usage, as well as usage outside your allowance. For security reasons, you will need to register to use this service. To view your recent usage visit and select Pricing from the left column. Mobile Web charges are based on the amount of data you send and receive over the O 2 GPRS network. This may include charges for resent data, and additional information required to control data flow. To minimise costs and maximise the speed of data transmission the total amount of data carried over the network is substantially reduced by intelligent data compression. Some web sites may attempt to send you information you have not requested. You can press Stop at the top of your screen to stop this downloading. You can also turn off cookies in your browser s advanced settings to stop unsolicited information being sent or received while you are online. * Not available from some service providers

What you can do with 1 MB How much data? Data is measured in bytes: there are 1,024 bytes in a kilobyte (KB), and there are 1024 KB in a megabyte (MB). Approximately 19 KB With just 1 MB of data you can, typically View 30 web pages with images (dependent on page size). Download a 15 page Powerpoint presentation. Download your favourite sounds. A typical three minute MP3 file is likely to be from 1.5 to 3 MB in size, depending on the sound quality. Approximately 58 KB 22 23

Accessing Mobile Web while abroad on your laptop PC Mobile Web users can access the Internet from anywhere in the world where there is a GSM or GPRS network. GSM access is available across the world, GPRS roaming agreements are being completed every month. Please check and look under the Travelling Abroad section for details of GPRS roaming partners and service charges. Internet-based You can access your Internet-based with Mobile Web. To access, for example, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc, simply enter the url of your Internetbased provider s site via Mobile Web and log in as you normally do. Standard international rates apply for calls made from other countries. All connections using GSM attract a per minute charge. Standard minimum charges apply. If you visit or call several countries frequently, our International traveller service offers reduced call charges for international calls made from the UK, and calls made to and received from the UK while abroad. Work It is possible to send and receive your company online using Mobile Web, if your workplace supports POP3 or IMAP4. You will need to discuss this with your IT Manager. If you have Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express your inbox can be used to read and reply to on-line

An easier way to use Mobile Web lets you create an service in your Microsoft Outlook inbox, and use it to read and send your s. This means that you will not have to open your web browser and go to your provider s web site each time you want to check mail. It s a more convenient way of accessing your s as they are popped through to the one central place in your inbox. Manual setup of POP3 and IMAP4 services These instructions give a generic guide to setting up a POP3 or IMAP4 service in Outlook. You should refer to the help section within Outlook for more detailed information. With Outlook open, click on the Tools menu. Select Services You should follow the setup process to complete your account setup. When you are online with Mobile Web you can send and receive your POP3 and IMAP4 s by clicking on the 'Send/Receive' button in Outlook. If you need help you should refer to the help section within Outlook or your IT department. This functionality is not supported by all providers. You will need to refer to your provider for confirmation that they support POP3/IMAP4 access. Important: For the SMTP or the outgoing server address you should use smtp.o2.co.uk Select New Service

Frequently asked questions What is Mobile Web? Mobile Web is a new service that enables you to access the full Internet, on the move. You can access any web site, including those you currently visit on your work or home PC. How does Mobile Web compare to the Internet service I get at home? Mobile Web is similar to the Internet experience you get at home it s just more convenient with the right devices, you can access Mobile Web, whenever and wherever you want.* How does Mobile Web work? You can view the Internet on your handheld PC/PDA or laptop PC using a GPRS device to access the Mobile Web service. You need to go through a one-off set up process to use Mobile Web. Once you are set up, you can then connect to the Internet. What is GPRS? GPRS stands for General Packet Radio Service. GPRS is the most advanced and fast mobile network available today.* O 2 (formerly BT Cellnet) were the first to launch this network in the UK. How is Mobile Web different from WAP? Mobile Web gives you access to the full Internet. Using an Internet browser, you can view literally millions of different websites in full colour on a PDA or laptop screen. WAP allows you to view WAP compatible sites only. compared to a standard PSTN dial-up line. * subject to network coverage. * in the UK and correct at time of print

How does surfing the Internet via Mobile Web compare to using GSM? Because Mobile Web uses our GPRS network and advanced data compression technology, you can expect speeds up to 5 times faster than with GSM. With GPRS, you are only billed for the amount of data you send and receive. So, you pay for what you do, not the amount of time it takes you to do it. In addition, with GPRS, if you are online when someone calls, your phone will still ring and you can take the call. When you ve finished, you re immediately back online. How does surfing the Internet over Mobile Web compare to using High Speed Circuit Switched Data (HSCSD)? With Mobile Web, you are only billed for the amount of data you send and receive, not the time it takes you. With HSCSD you are charged for all the time you are connected. And with HSCSD, you can t take voice calls while you re online. 30 Why charge per megabyte and not per minute? Because this way, you re charged for what you do, not the amount of time it takes you to do it. After you have downloaded a web page or you can take as long as you like to read it it won t cost a penny more. How much does it cost to send an ? An is charged on the basis of how much data you send or receive. You may need to click through a few pages to get to your Internet-based inbox, so the amount of data (and therefore cost) will differ depending on the nature of the pages. A typical PC-sized text only page should take approximately 10 KB to download. How much does it cost to look at a web-page? Web pages are also charged by the volume of data you send or receive. You may need to click through a few pages to get to the page you want, so the amount of data (and therefore the cost) will differ depending on the nature of the pages. One typical PC-sized page with images should take approximately 35 KB to download. 31

Do I need to have an Internet Service Provider (ISP), to use Mobile Web? Not at all. O 2 is your mobile service provider though you may wish to continue using your existing ISP for services such as . Can I access my company LAN with Mobile Web? VPN access over Mobile Web VPN is available, and may allow you to access your company LAN from the Internet. You should ask your company IT manager whether you have this technology in your company. O 2 also has a range of services that provide and LAN access to company systems, including Blackberry a handheld device that gives mobile access to company and other services. You should talk to your Service Provider about the options available from O 2 to access LANs on the move or visit Mobile Web does enable you to have access to Internet-based and the full Internet through a range of devices including the xda. You can also choose to read and reply to work-based off-line. xda is a phone and handheld PC in one slim-line package.
