1 Madrid Science Program Registration Students who will be taking classes at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid(UAM) must 1. submit the registration material to BU Madrid and 2. complete the UAM online registration (SIGMA) by April 25th, Students are encouraged to contact Gabriela Navarro with questions about the UAM registration process.

2 1. Registration Material Registration material (Learning Agreement, Transcript, Passport and Photo) must be received by the BU Madrid office prior to April 25th, Do NOT send any forms to the UAM. All documents should be scanned (in PDF format) and ed together to Gabriela Navarro *Please keep a copy of all documents submitted for your records.

3 1.1 Learning Agreement The Learning Agreement (or Contrato de Estudios; "LA") is the pre-registration document used by the ORI at the UAM to hold places for incoming students in classes they would like to take. Students should complete the LA carefully to avoid registration problems once in Madrid. When filling out your Learning Agreement, refer to the following sample, and then download a writeable blank copy.

4 1.1 Learning Agreement (continued) Students take 2 or 3 science classes at the UAM (Facultad de Ciencias) and 1 or 2 classes at the International Institute. Refer to the UAM website for more information about the Science program; Click here for the science class syllabi. Click here for the class schedule. The Spanish language and Spanish Civilization classes should not be listed on the LA. Don t forget to consult Spanish and Civilization schedules here.

5 1.2 Additional Registration Material Along with the Learning Agreement, you must submit: an unofficial copy of your transcript (in PDF format) students can obtain a copy of your transcript at the Office of the University Registrar. BU Office of the University Registrar is located at 881 Commonwealth Avenue. a color copy of your Passport (in PDF format) please include a scanned copy of your passport photo and signature page. a passport photo (in JPG/JPEG format): the photo should be a headshot that clearly shows your facial features. the photo must be a color photo with a white background, the photo cannot exceed 4mb in size, and must be a minimum of 161 x 189 pixels. You must submit all documents to the BU Madrid office even if you already submitted a copy as part of your application and/or online pre-departure forms. PLEASE DO NOT SEND PHOTOS OF DOCUMENTS.

6 1.3 the Registration Material the registration material to Gabriela Navarro no later than April 25 th, 2014: Learning Agreement (signed, scanned and in PDF format). Unofficial copy of your transcript (PDF format). Color copy of your passport photo/signature page (PDF format). Passport size photo (the same one you uploaded to Sigma).

7 2. Online Registration Note that at this point you have not finished registering for classes; please continue with the online registration. Students who do not complete the UAM online registration (SIGMA) prior to the deadline will not be able to take classes at the UAM.

8 2.1 Making an account on SIGMA Go to the Programas de movilidad and click on the British flag for English: Click "Yes" below to confirm that you have a personal identity document in Spain (your passport). Enter your passport number. Enter your personal information as instructed. Leave "second surname"/"segundo apellido" blank unless you have two last names. Enter your birthdate dd/mm/yyyy. Click "Continue". Click the boxes confirming your information is correct and accepting terms and conditions. Then click "Register". You should receive a confirmation from uam.informa@uam.es (check your spam folder) within 24 hours with a 4 digit code. This will be your Sigma password. MAKE SURE TO WRITE IT DOWN SOMEWHERE YOU CAN ACCESS IT EASILY.

9 2.2 Online Registration (SIGMA) Go to Solicitud de admisión and click on the British flag for English: Log in using your passport number and 4 digit password. Fill in all required information, following instructions carefully. For "Datos de Intercambio"/"Type of Exchange Program", select "Boston University ". For "Universidad de Origen"/"Home Institution": all select Boston University (regardless of where you study in the US). For "Area de Estudio"/"Area of Study" select the Facultad de Ciencias. For "Estudios a Cursar" enter a subject you plan on studying. E.g.: "chemistry" or "biology". For "Periodo de Estudio" select "First semester"; the dates should fill in automatically. Click Grabar /"Save".

10 2.3 Upload a photo to SIGMA To complete your application, YOU MUST UPLOAD A PHOTO OF YOURSELF. You should see a box labeled "Foto"/"Photo"/"Fotomatón". Select the picture you d like. Click upload: If your photo is acceptable, it should appear on your application. If you re having trouble sizing it correctly, try using the Paint application. It has a useful resizing tool.) Make sure to click Grabar at the bottom of the page in order to save changes. Adhere to photo requirements to avoid delays in receiving your student card: In JPEG/JPEG format & in color with a white background It cannot exceed 4 megabytes in size; must be a minimum of pixels It should only be a headshot & clearly show your facial features Once your photo has been validated, your registration as a UAM student is complete.

12 Official Matrícula In Madrid there will be a special orientation in which you will receive further information about class selection and official matrícula.
