1 GET MEDIA ATTENTION FOR ANYTHING YOU TOGETHER SUPPORT Create a campaign Build media list Send press release Grow campaign
2 Create a campaign: step 1 of 3 - Sign in to JOINT.PRESS, and visit this link to create a campaign for free: - Enter the campaign name and click Next. Tips: PR activities on JOINT.PRESS are organized by campaigns. Each campaign would have its own goal (like gaining media attention for minority rights), media lists, press releases, etc. You can imagine it as a Facebook page.
3 Create a campaign: step 2 of 3 Enter campaign description, topics, and other useful links like Twitter, Facebook and website, so that people understand what this campaign is about.
4 Create a campaign: step 3 of 3 Enter contact information of the campaign owner, so interested journalists or contributors can contact you when needed. Click Start the campaign button to start building your campaign!
5 1 Understand your campaign page Section 1: campaign management 2 Campaign timeline: all the public campaign activities. Pending approval: activities pending admin approval. Disapproved: activities disapproved by admin. Media lists: all the journalists added to the campaign. Campaign settings: various campaign settings. 3 Section 2: campaign actions Add journalists*: anyone can suggest journalists to send press releases to. Register as source*: anyone can register as a source to get media inquiries. Post campaign update*: anyone can post update. List media coverage*: anyone can list already published media coverage about this campaign. Publish press release: Only admin can send press release. * Campaign admin approval required for activities to go public. Section 3: public campaign timeline All campaign admin approved activities, like journalists added, sources, campaign updates, media coverages and press releases appear here.
6 Build media list Add journalists Before you distribute your first press release, you ll need to add some journalists to your campaign. Click Add journalists to add journalists.
7 Build media list Add journalists Add journalists by searching contact database (default) or enter journalist details manually. You can search for journalists based on their historic tweets, news articles or profile information. Let s try search by tweets. Enter your keyword and hit Search.
8 Build media list Add journalists Identify the relevant journalists and click Add to media list button to add them to a media list of your campaign. Tips: 1. Journalists added by campaign admin go to Campaign timeline automatically and are ready to receive your press releases; those added by non-admin go to Pending approval, and the admin would also receive notification to review the suggestion. 2. Journalists added to your campaign won t receive notifications or press releases automatically. You need to select them as recipients when you send a press release for them to receive it. More details in Send press release. 3. Add as many relevant journalist as possible to your campaign to make sure your press release get maximum media attention.
9 Build media list review journalist suggestions One of the most power features of JOINT.PRESS is that anyone can suggest relevant journalists to your campaign, and all suggestions need to get campaign admin approval to receive your press releases. 1. Every time some non-admin user added a journalist, the campaign admin would get an notification. Click Review pending approvals to approve or disapprove a suggestion. 2. In the Pending approval page, find the suggested journalist, click the down arrow at upper right to approve/disapprove all journalists in an activity, or click the thumb up/down icon to approve/disapprove individual suggestion. Tips: 1. To find as many relevant journalists for your campaign as possible, please share your campaign with all your supporters. 2. The suggestion and review process for Register as source, Post campaign update and List media coverage works in the same way.
10 Send press release: step 1 of 4 Click Publish press release to distribute press release to your media lists. Tips: Only campaign admin can publish press releases.
11 Send press release: step 2 of 4 Write your press release in the press release composing window. It s the same as composing an .
12 Send press release: step 3 of 4 Choose the media lists that you want to the press release to.
13 Send press release: step 4 of 4 Specify the time to send your press release, now or later. And then click Submit.
14 Monitor press release performance Your press release will be ed to the contacts in the lists you selected and will also appear on the public campaign timeline. You can view the stats of the press release on campaign timeline, like reads and clicks. Tips: You can customize what stats to show publicly in Campaign settings > General > Individual press release stats visibility.
15 More tips for growing your campaign: Encourage your supporters to register as a source Encourage your supporters to register as source, so interested journalists can connect with them for writing better a better story about your campaign. Tips: 1. Anyone can register as a source, but campaign admin approval is required for a source to appear on campaign timeline. 2. Anyone can contact the source by clicking the Send link in a source. The source can choose to stop receiving source s anytime in preferences.
16 More tips for growing your campaign: List influential media coverage List media coverage from influential news sites to help people following and contributing to the campaign Tips: Anyone can list a media coverage, but campaign admin approval is required for a coverage to appear on campaign timeline.
17 More tips for growing your campaign: Add more campaign admins A campaign admin can make changes to all aspects of a campaign. You can add a campaign admin to help you mange your campaign in Campaign settings > Admins.
18 More tips for growing your campaign: Hide or delete your campaign 1. You can hide (unpublish) your campaign so that only campaign admin can access it: Campaign settings > General > Unpublish the campaign. 2. You can delete a campaign: Campaign settings > General > Delete this campaign.
19 More tips for growing your campaign: Invite your supporters to your campaign Share your campaign on SNS, blog, news letter, website, etc., and invite all your supporters and colleagues to contribute to it. They can suggest relevant journalists, register as source, and help you share your press release to the people they know. Tips: Please use the URL for your campaign timeline.
