2 Accessing Plex via Browser There are a number of ways to access Plex, far too many that I can be bothered to go into but here are the most common that you are likely to encounter. Web There are a few different ways to access Plex from the web. The easiest for most of you will be to access the web player directly through the Plex website. app.plex.tv This method will take you to the Plex web player hosted directly on the Plex servers and simply passes through the media to you. The second method (preferred) and the way that I access Plex when using the web client is to go to the webpage hosted directly on my server. This runs everything from my server, if you can't access this site, the likely-hood is that the server is down. This routes everything directly from my server to you. You probably won't notice much if any difference in this but it's the way I like to get there. There is also the local method for when you are on the same network as the server. This is useful if you cannot access the server from any other methods. If this isn't working then the server is offline and you should let me know :32400/web

Step one: Download the Plex app Go to whatever appstore your device comes with and download the plex app. Step two: Login Select the botton option to sign in with /username.

This content, whilst has a superior quality can be very difficult to stream outside of the home network. In order to watch 4K content when not on the same network as TheMainframe or to watch on a non-4k device there are a couple of extra steps to take to provide a better playback experience. 4K films and TV shows can be identified by a black banner across the top of the film/show.

7 Anything with this banner will need to go through these extra steps to provide a better playback experience. Normally when you have selected your film to watch, at this stage you would just click play. However, as 4K files are very difficult to play back and require a massive internet upload speed (which is unavailable in our area as of yet.) They only way the server can serve up 4K content remotely it to transcode it. Transcoding takes a massive amount of computing power that is just unrealistic to achieve in real-time without spending thousands on a brand new server. (Heart says yes, wallet says no.) There is a solution. I am trying to make sure that there are 1080p or 720p versions of the film that you can select which will give you a better playback experience with less buffering. Everything you play from the server is transcoded, this is set on the server itself as it is set up to give the best playback possible on most devices and accounts for the lower upload speed available to the server.
