Theory Class Outlines (cont.) Introducing data communications and defines their components and the types of data exchanged. It also shows how different types of data are represented and how data is flowed through the network. Describe the structure of a networks LANs, WANs, and internetworks (internets). It also introduces the Internet and early history of the Internet, and the issues related to the Internet today. Design different types of network topologies and 10 network criteria
Theory Class Outlines (cont.) Concept of protocol layering using TCP/IP and OSI Models, Decapsulation and Encapsulation of data at each layers and logical connection between two identical layers in protocol layering. Functions of the physical layer which is to move data in the form of electromagnetic signals across a transmission medium. For transmission, data needs to be changed to signals. Understanding data and signals which they can be either analog or digital 11
Theory Class Outlines (cont.) Obtaining of transmission impairment during the transmission of signals data can be loss or corrupted. one section shows how attenuation, distortion, and noise can impair a signal. Learning of digital-to-digital conversion, analog to digital conversion, digital to analog conversion. Introduces the transmission media and defines its position in the Internet model. Classifying transmission media into two broad categories: guided and unguided media. Describe twisted-pair cables and their characteristics and applications. Next, describe coaxial cables and their characteristics and applications. Finally, describe fiber-optic cables and their characteristics and applications. 12
Theory Class Outlines (cont.) Introduce unguided media radio waves and their characteristics and applications. Then, describe microwaves and their characteristics and applications. Finally, describe infrared waves and their characteristics and applications. 13
Practical Class Outlines Introduction to Network Components (Devices: Router, Switch, Server, Hub, Repeater, Media Types: Wire and Wireless) Introduction to Packet Tracer Components and How to use them. Introduction to Basic IOS Software (Switch) using Packet Tracer Introduction to Network Topology Design (Star, Ring, Mesh) Design LAN and WAN and interconnection between them. (Hardware Device and Media). Configure Telnet to the router from Host and verify the Telnet password. 14
Practical Class Outlines (cont.) Assign IP address to a LAN Topology and look at Mac table and PING between devices. Using Packet Tracer. Configuring Basic Switch Management Connect to the switch using a console connection Navigate through various CLI modes Using Wireshark to analyze TCP/IP Addresses and Protocols! Draw a Network Topology for client and server requesting packets from server and analysis packets for all IOS layers. (PING, TRACEROUTE, Web Browse) IOS Configuration (switching and Routing) using Packet Tracer 15
Exams and Assignments Compositional 1) Explain what is default gateway? why do switches need to have default gateways? Answer/ Default gateway is a mechanism to forward packet to distant networks. so IP packets with destination IP addresses outside the local will be forwarded to the default gateway. 2) True or false type and correct false Answers In Half duplex lines data can go only in one direction? Answer/ false. because half duplex lines let data to 16 go in both directions but in different times.
Exams and Assignments (cont.) 3) Multiple Choice The largest geographic area a wide area network!(wan) can span is. A. a town B. a state C. a country D. the world 17
Exams and Assignments (cont.) 4) Match questions with correct answers In the work area below, match the OSI model layer on the left to its description on the right. 18
Exams and Assignments (cont.) 5) Draw diagram and illustrate by graph Identify the five components of a data communications system an illustrate by drawing a diagram? Answer/ 19
