Under this flder, create tw subflders, DataTables and MiscTables. DataTables where CSV files listing all part data will reside MiscTables (nt currently used future lcatin f branch table infrmatin, and s n) 1

2 Build CSV Files Cntaining Part Infrmatin The next task is t build CSV files that cntain part and prperty infrmatin. Yu can build this file manually r write a rutine t d s. The nly required clumn heading is the prperty name CLASS_NAME_DEF. The value in this required clumn uniquely identifies the part type and can be a name, a flder name cmbined with a standard name and a file name, r ther cmbinatins, depending n yur current cnventins. The nly requirement is that the value identifies the part type. The clumn headers fr all ther prperties are ptinal; nly the clumn header CLASS_NAME_DEF must be present. Here is an example f small sectin f a CSV file cntaining prperty infrmatin fr an elbw. Map External Parts and Prperties t Cunterparts in Plant 3D All mapping infrmatin is stred in the fllwing files, lcated in C:\Prgram Files\Autdesk \AutCAD Plant 3D *versin*: Ppulated autmatically as yu supply infrmatin in the mapping dialg: ATPTP3dClassMapping.xml ATPTP3dGemetryMapping.xml ATPTP3dUtilityMapping.xml Ppulated manually (see the sectin Build the file ATPTP3dMiscMapping.xml belw): ATPTP3dMiscMapping.xml Yu can update/edit the first 3 files in the Specs and Catalgs applicatin (File > Cnvert > Settings). As yu enter infrmatin n each f the three tabs in the mapping dialg, the crrespnding three xml files are updated (class, gemetry, and utility/translatin files). Hwever, the last file, ATPT3dMiscMappings.xml must be edited manually. Befre attempting t update these files, yu must understand hw mapping takes place in AutCAD Plant 3D. 2

3 Overview f Cnversin Mapping In rder t cnvert a spec successfully, yu usually must adjust class mappings r add a class t be mapped. When adding classes r adjusting mappings, yu must take all f the fllwing actins: Map classes and prperties t Plant 3D classes and prperties, including general prperties (lng descriptin, pressure class, and s n), sme f which can be managed glbally. Map class gemetry t Plant 3D gemetry (find shapes that are similar). Fr example, yu can identify the number f cnnectin prts and the type f end cnnectin. Each class can have multiple mappings a separate mapping fr each end type, fr example. Translate prperty values t make sure they can be understd by Plant 3D. Fr example, yu can specify that Imperial measurements in the external applicatin translate t Plant 3D inches. Each activity takes place n a separate tab in the Plant 3D Class Mapping dialg bx. The adjustments yu make n these tabs are stred cnfiguratin files. Nte: If external specs include cmpnent types that AutCAD Plant 3D specs d nt, thse cmpnent types, such as nzzles r pipe supprts in the case f AutPLANT, are reprted as errrs during cnversin. T have these items ignred during cnversin, yu can add them t a cnfiguratin file (see Build the file ATPTP3dMiscMapping.xml belw). Understand Glbal vs Class Prperties Glbal prperties such as lng descriptin, pressure class, schedule, and s n, can be mapped nce fr all classes. Individual class prperties, n the ther hand, are mapped ne-t-ne t crrespnding Plant 3D class prperties. Nte: If the external spec has mre than ne prperty where Plant 3D has nly ne, yu can use the [OR] peratr. Fr example, fr the Plant 3D prperty Engagement Length, yu can specify PROPERTYNAMEA [OR] PROPERTYNAMEB. EngagementLength is mapped t whichever prperty cntains a value. Fllwing is a further explanatin f each mapping activity. Override Glbal Prperties Individual class prperty mappings take precedence ver glbal mappings. In the Plant 3D Class Mapping dialg bx, fr example, the glbal mapping fr CnnectinPrtCunt is

4 If the AT_TEE als defines this prperty, its prperty value is used. Fr example if the AT_TEE prperty CnnectinPrtCunt is set t the value 3, this value verrides that f the glbal mapping. In this case, all ther classes wuld have the value 2; nly AT_TEE wuld have the value 3. Yu can use the [#] peratr t verride the glbal cnnectin prt prperties fr a specific prt number. In the fllwing example, the glbal mapping fr cnnectin prt 2 is verridden fr Olets. In this case, the prperty NminalDiameter fr prt 2 is mapped t Bran_size. 4

5 Match r Apply When yu map prperties, yu can either match them and mirrr their values r apply specific cnstant values. Fllwing are examples f bth methds. The AT-BOLT AutPLANT blt-dia prperty is mapped/matched t the Plant 3D prperty Bltsize. Hwever, the Plant 3D value Fasteners is applied t the PartCategry prperty. In this example, Bltdia is matched as a prperty, but Fasteners is applied as a prperty value. Map Class Gemetry Once yu have added a class t the Class Mapping tab, yu must als add it t the class list in the gemetry tab fr cnversin t be successful. Yu can specify a 3D shape t use and map the parametric dimensins t size it accurately. In ther wrds, yu are describing what each class shuld lk like in the mdel. 5

6 Nte Sme classes such as blts have n graphics in the mdel and thus n mapped gemetry infrmatin. Fr cnversin purpses, such classes must be listed n the Gemetry Mapping tab nevertheless. Plant 3D shapes have defined cnnectin prts. They als have names that help identify the end type, and these names are appended t the script name. Shape names withut an underscre extensin are buttwelded/beveled, and can ften accmmdate flanges as well. Shape names ending with _OF indicate that the prt has threaded female r scketweld female ends. Shape names ending with _OM indicate that the prt has threaded male r scketweld male ends. 7 Each script has assciated prperties that indicate hw the endtypes are t be drawn. AutPLANT prperties are matched t AutCAD Plant 3D versins. In many cases, yu may want a class t have different shapes, depending n cntext. Fr example, yu may want AT_TEE t have a welded tee, a scked-welded tee, r a flanged tee in different lcatins. Yu can specify a prperty name r names t match as criteria fr the graphical shape t be used. Fr AT_TEE, fr example, yu can specify the external prperty END_COND_1 as the matching criteria t help differentiate when t use the different shapes. Fllwing is an example that specifies using CPTS_OFOFOF when END_CONDITION_1 is SWF r SCF, but using CPTS when END_CONDITION_1 is BW, and s n. Fr each gemetry mapping, there is als a crrespnding set f parameters, and these can vary depending n the shape. The image that fllws shws a Plant 3D threaded female tee in the catalg editr (size tab) alng with its parameters. Yu can enter these parameters in the mapping table in the Plant 3D Parameter Name clumn and map them t the crrespnding AutPLANT prperty name (r value). 7

8 Translate Class Prperty Values On the Prperty Translatin tab, yu make sure that values specific t AutPLANT prperties are crrectly interpreted during the cnversin. Fr example, the AutPLANT endtype prperty value BW maps t (translates t) BV in the language f Plant 3D. Yu can add additinal prperties with specific value translatins as needed. The translatins affect all classes in a prject. Build the file ATPTP3dMiscMapping.xml When yu cmplete the mapping tasks using the mapping dialg bx, yu can edit the file ATPTP3dMiscMapping.xml. Fllwing are the key sectins yu can mdify t reflect yur cnversin requirements: PartSizeIdList Lists prperties that are used t generate a unique Part-ID fr each part 8

On the File menu, click Cnvert > CSV files. 2. In the Cnvert External Specs and Catalgs dialg bx, click Add. 3. In the Brwse Fr Flder dialg bx, navigate t the flder cntaining the CSV files yu want t cnvert. Click OK. 4. In the Cnvert External Specs and Catalgs dialg bx, d the fllwing: Next t Cnvert Selected Files T, click AutCAD Plant 3D Specs r AutCAD Plant 3D Catalgs, depending n the data cntained in the CSV files. Under Select the Flder Fr the Cnverted Specs and Catalgs, click the [...] buttn and brwse t the flder where yu want t save the cnverted files. Click OK. Click Cnvert. A dialg bx displays the prgress f the cnversin. 5. In the Specs and Catalgs - Cnversin Cmplete dialg bx, d ne f the fllwing: View the Spec Cnversin Reprt dialg that lists the Output Flder, the date f the cnversin, and the name f the mdb file r files cnverted. In this dialg bx, yu can click the Click Here T View Detailed CSV Frmat Cnversin Reprt link t display the infrmatin in a Micrsft Excel spreadsheet. Open the cnverted specs flder where yu can view lg files and cnverted files. 6. Based n the cnversin results, yu can edit the surce CSV file r files as needed and run the cnversin again, r yu can pen the cnverted spec and add parts frm a Plant 3D catalg. 9

10 Cnvert the Specs T cnvert a spec (r catalg) 1. On the File menu, click Cnvert > Specs and Catalgs. 2. In the Cnvert External Specs and Catalgs dialg bx, click Add. 3. In the Select Specs and Catalgs dialg bx, navigate t the flder cntaining the specs yu want t cnvert. Select ne r mre specs and click Open. 4. In the Cnvert External Specs and Catalgs dialg bx, under Select the Flder Fr the Cnverted Specs and Catalgs, click the [...] buttn and brwse t the flder where yu want t save the cnverted files. Click OK. 5. In the Cnvert External Specs and Catalgs dialg bx, click Cnvert. A dialg bx displays the prgress f the cnversin. 6. In the Specs and Catalgs - Cnversin Cmplete dialg bx, d ne f the fllwing: View the Spec Cnversin Reprt dialg that lists the Output Flder, the date f the cnversin, and the name f the mdb file cnverted. In this dialg bx, yu can click the link Click Here T View Detailed CSV Frmat Cnversin Reprt t display the infrmatin in a Micrsft Excel spreadsheet. Open the cnverted specs flder where yu can view lg and cnverted files. 7. Based n the cnversin results, yu can either adjust mappings as needed and run the cnversin again r pen the spec and add parts frm a Plant 3D catalg.
