1 How to make a Recap Mobile Recording on ios devices Introduction This guide tells you how to make a Mobile Recording in Recap using the Panopto app on your mobile or tablet. Panopto are the provider of the system behind Recap. You will first need to download the Panopto app from your App Store to your mobile device. Recap Mobile Recordings should be uploaded to your Personal folder in Panopto. If you don t yet have a Personal folder in Panopto, or you require subfolder(s) within your Personal folder, you will need to request this via SID first. Ask them to use your University username as a prefix to the folder name(s) to ensure they are unique within Panopto. Please note: Mobile recordings uploaded to Panopto will not be automatically linked to in ELE. You will need to add a link in ELE to the Panopto Viewing URL for the recording yourself if required. This also applies to any recordings you later move into Module folders in Panopto. Steps 1. To use Panopto on your ios mobile device you must be connected to the internet. 2. Open the Panopto app and click on the menu icon. This will then show the Account panel. Click on Sign in : Page 1

2 3. This will then show the Sign in screen. Leave Exeter Login as is and click on Sign in 4. Enter your normal University User Name and Password and click on LOG IN : Page 2

3 5. You will then see the Create menu option. Click on Record & upload : 6. You will now need to find and select the Panopto folder to which you want to upload your recording. If you don t yet have a Personal folder or you require subfolder(s) within your Personal folder, you will need to request this via SID first. Ask them to use your University username as a prefix to the folder name(s) to ensure they are unique within Panopto, as in this example as660-editing. Click on the folder name or on Browse to see more folders : Page 3

4 7. Enter a meaningful title for the recording that will be its title in Panopto : 8. You now have a choice you can either use the Panopto app to make a new recording or you can choose a video you have previously recorded on the same mobile device. To upload a recording you have made previously, click on Choose a video. Browse in your device s Photos folder for the video you want and click Choose then go to Step 10. To make a recording in the app, when you are ready to record, click on Start recording then click on the red circle to start recording, and then again to stop : Page 4

5 9. Once you have finished recording you can click on the white play button to check it is ok, or you can Retake a new recording, or if you are happy with it, click on Use Video : 10. You don t need to upload your recording to Panopto as soon as you have finished making your recording, it can be done later, but you will need to be connected to the internet and if you can only upload later, you will see your recording on the Panopto app s Record and upload option on the menu. In either case, click on Upload Page 5

6 11. You will see a progress bar at the bottom of the screen as the recording is uploaded. Once that is complete, you will then see the upload Processing. This means the uploaded recording is being finalised in Panopto itself and can take a few minutes : 12. To check your recording has uploaded ok, you can log in to the Panopto website and see the recording in the folder that you chose earlier : Page 6

7 13. Please note: Mobile recordings uploaded to folders in Panopto will not be automatically linked to in ELE. This also applies to any recordings you later move into Module folders in Panopto. You will need to add a link in ELE to the Panopto Viewing URL for the recording yourself if required. Please also note that you cannot share Viewing links from your top level Personal My Folder in Panopto, only from subfolders so make sure to ask SID to create those for you. 14. To find the Viewer link, log in to Panopto with your Exeter Login and open the folder with your uploaded Mobile recording(s) to find the recording you want. Hover over the recording title to bring up the options and click on Settings 15. You will then see the Viewer link. Click in the box to highlight the whole link and then you can copy and paste this into ELE as required. Page 7
