1 Understanding the SkyDrive The SkyDrive is your cloud storage area. Some users are allocated 25 GB of space, while others will have7 GB of space. You will be able to access the files saved to your SkyDrive from ANY Internet connected computer. Accessing the SkyDrive 1. Navigate to this Website: 2. Enter your Username and Password. Your Username is your full PISD e mail address: firstname.lastname@pisd.edu Please use your same network password The SkyDrive Menus 1. The navigation menu on the left side of the screen will allow you to move between files (documents and photos), recent documents and shared documents. 2. You create documents and/or new folders by clicking Create. Please note that the software program you select will launch as a Web based version and will NOT resemble the computer based version of the program. 3. Click Upload to add files to a folder. 1

2 Changing the View in the SkyDrive There are three options for viewing your folders/files: Details, Icons, and Content. Select one of the three options in the upper right corner. Navigating to Other Areas 1. Hover the mouse over the SkyDrive icon in the upper left corner to view all the services available at live.com. 2. Click the drop down arrow that appears. 3. Click the icon to make a selection. 2

3 Saving Files to the SkyDrive 1. In the Microsoft program, click the File tab. 2. From the drop down menu, click Save & Send. 3. Select Save to Web. 4. Click Sign In. (If not signed in already.) Enter your full PISD Username and password. 6. Select the folder in which you would like to save the document. NOTE: If you do not have a folder for the doc ument, click the New icon in the upper right corner to create one. 3

4 7. With the folder name highlighted, click Save As. NOTE: After clicking Save As, you may experience a delay before viewing the following screen. 8. Enter a name for your file. 9. Click Save. NOTE: This process is done the first time you save a document. After that first time, only click File > Save to save your document back to the SkyDrive. 4

5 Opening / Editing Files in the SkyDrive from Home or School 1. Open Internet Explorer. 2. Navigate to this Website: 3. Enter your Username and Password. Your Username is your full PISD e mail address: firstname.lastname@pisd.edu Please use your same network password 4. Navigate to the document you want to open. Click the document title to view it. 5. The document will open in the Web App viewer. Click Edit in to view the document in the appropriate software. For example, clicking on Edit in Word will open the document in the Microsoft Word software. Please remember to save your changes. 6. OR, for basic, shorter editing, click Edit in Word Web App to open the document in the Web based program. The document will open online with limited editing options. You will need to save after your editing is complete. This is also an editing option for those without the Microsoft Suite 2010 program on their home computers, ipads or other devices. 5

6 Managing A File in the SkyDrive 1. Select a file by clicking the box next to the file title. 2. The row will highlight and the menu options will appear across the top banner. 3. Select a function from the menu. Managing Multiple Files in the SkyDrive 1. Select the files by clicking the appropriate boxes next to the file titles. 2. The rows will highlight and the menu options will appear across the top banner. 3. Select a function from the menu. 6

7 Downloading Files From the SkyDrive to Another Location 1. Select the file(s) you want to download, then click Download from the menu across the top banner. 2. If using Internet Explorer, select Save As from the drop down menu at the bottom of the screen. 3. Select the new location where you want to save the document. 4. Click Save. 7

8 Free SkyDrive App for iphones, ipads, or Andrioid Devices There is no cost for the SkyDrive App. With the SkyDrive app you can: Access all of your SkyDrive files (including those shared with you) View recently used documents Upload photos or videos from your iphone / ipad Share a link to any file using e mail Create folders Delete files and/or folders Installing the SkyDrive App 1. Go to the App Store/Marketplace on your device and search for SkyDrive. 2. Click Install. 3. Open the App and login using your full PISD e mail address (firstname.lastname@pisd.edu) and password. Additional SkyDrive Notes There is no back up for the SkyDrive. Just like the H: drive, deleted items are not retrieveable. Sharing access to documents is possible but only with other PISD users. You cannot browse to items in your SkyDrive from Windows Explorer or mypisd.net. You must go to and login to access your files. The SkyDrive is an ideal location to save personal files along with other large files. 8

9 Determining H: Drive Size 1. Open your H: drive in Windows Explorer. 2. Select all the files and folders in your H: drive. Press Ctrl + A on your keyboard to select all. OR single click the first file to select it. Hold down the shift key and single click the last file on the list to select all. 3. Right click in the highlighted area to view the pop up menu. Left click Properties. 9

10 4. Allow some time for the properties window to calculate how much space you are using. 10

11 Determining File Size 1. Open Windows Explorer. 2. Navigate to your H: Drive 3. Change the view option to Details. 4. In this view, you can determine the file s type, size and location. Double click any file to view it. You can delete files on this screen by selecting the file and then pressing the Delete key. 11

12 You can also locate large files on your H: Drive that you no longer use. (Photos, videos, and music are typically large files.) You can filter your search to locate specific kinds of files. system.kind:=picture system.kind:=movie system.kind:=video system.kind:=music system.kind:=program This command will locate photos This command will locate movies This command will locate videos This command will locate music This command will locate software programs 1. In Windows Explorer, navigate to your H: Drive. 2. Enter the appropriate search command. 12

13 Transferring Files to the SkyDrive Before transferring files to the SkyDrive, you first need to create a folder in which to place the files. Also, it is helpful to have your H: Drive open to the location in which your files are currently saved. 1. Open Windows Explorer. (You can click the small manila folder in the lower left corner of the screen to gain quick access to Windows Explorer.) 2. Navigate to your H: Drive and, if necessary, open the folder in which the documents are saved. 3. Navigate to this site: 4. Enter your Username and Password. Your Username is your full PISD e mail address: firstname.lastname@pisd.edu Please use your same network password 5. Click Create from the top menu then select Folder. 6. Enter the name of the new folder then press the Enter key. 13

14 7. Click the name of the new folder to open it. 8. Click Upload from the top menu. The Upload drop box will appear. OPTION 1 1. In your H: drive, select the file(s) you would like to transfer to the SkyDrive. NOTE: You cannot transfer folders. However, you can transfer more than one file at a time. 2. To select more than one file, hold down the CTRL key while clicking on the files you want to transfer. Then drag the highlighted files into the Upload drop box. 14

15 OPTION 2 1. Click select them from your computer. 2. In your H: drive, select the file(s) you would like to transfer to the SkyDrive. NOTE: You cannot transfer folders. However, you can transfer more than one file at a time. 3. To select more than one file, hold down the CTRL key while clicking on the files you want to transfer. Then click Open. After uploading with either Option 1 or 2, the upload progress window will appear. That box will inform you of the upload process and speed. After your files have uploaded, the small box will disappear. Please note that this process puts a copy of your document on the Skydrive. Your original will remain in place. Click the SkyDrive icon OR click on your login in the bread crumbs to return to the home screen. 15

16 Sharing Files 1. Select the file or folder you want to share then select Sharing from the top banner menu. 2. Enter the full e mail address of the person/people who will be sharing this file or folder. 3. Determine if the other users can edit the files and if you are going to require each user to sign in each time they access the document. 4. Click Share. The recipients will receive an e mail indicating that a file or folder has been shared. The recipient will need to access his/her SkyDrive to view/edit the document(s). 16
