3 How to Log on: Double click Modern retailer and press Till 1 or Till 2 Click on cashier and start use How to add stock items: Enter stock file First find the code for the button you wish to add the item to e.g. F01 In the description column type in what you want the button to say Then in the sell column set the price of the item. You then need to go to the department column and change the department by typing in the number that it relates to o to look at and change the list of departments press the department button at the top of the screen o then ether change the text in an existing department or create your own using the new button finally if the Item is vat able set the vat column 1 otherwise set it to 0 How to set up a menu: Set up the button as described above but leave the price at zero Press the new button and enter a code that make sense to the product i.e. drink001 Set up the item as described above Once the item is set up repeat this until you have all the buttons in the list set up Then go back to the button you wish to attach the items to and press edit. Select the tab xref codes On the left of the two menu options select new. Change the new items type to M and set the code to match the item codes that you made earlier Epos Manual Page 3

4 How to set up sides: Select the item you want to put the sides on and press new Select the tab xref codes Click on sides/options list Change the code to a description that suits the list In items type in the list of items with a coma between each one e.g. cheese,ham,mushroom o It is also possible to select multiple items from the same list in the sales screen. To set the menu in this way place an <M> before the first item Press the red cross to close the list and use the drop down menu to select the code you just made. o Note you may close and open the Item edit screen before it appears on the list I f you wish to add this to other Items go into edit for that item and selected the side from the same drop down menu. 5 Menu Functions: Hold Places the sale on hold so you can serve the next customer, very useful if you have a line. Recall brings the held sales back to the sales screen so that they can be completed. Correct Remove one line from the sale. By default this will be the last item, if a previous item is to be corrected then select it by touching it on the touchscreen. Void All Voids the full sale. Return Returns an item: Press the return button (RETURN will appear below the input box) Scan the item, this will return the item to stock and give credit to the sale. You can scan other items onto the sale and the balance will be calculated. Cash the sale as normal and take/give payment as required. NOTE: the system will NOT allow a 0.00 value sale, therefore if an item is returned for an item with the same price you will have to do the return and sale on separate transactions. Print Receipt Prints your last Receipt, if you would like an earlier transaction, you have to find the transaction then print receipt. The Up/Down keys can be used, or the search function. Quantity if you would like to change a quantity of an item. Enquiry this is to do a price enquiry without selling it. (if you do require to sell it then you simply scan the item again % Disc gives a % discounthe last item, enter percentage and then click on %DISC, e.g. 10 <%DISC> to give 10% discount Sign off this is if you have cashier names and you would like to sign on as another person. No Sale this opens the cash drawer. Readings X and Z readings. Epos Manual Page 5

6 Back Office Takes you to the Back Office Screen, where you can choose to go into till mode, stock file etc. Payout This button is for if you would like to do a payout for example, bread man, milkman etc. Enter the amount to be given then press this button. Up this is to scroll up to check previous sales Down this is to scroll down to check previous sales How to do a complete sale: Press SUBTOTAL (optional) Enter amount given by customer (in pennies i.e. no decimal point) and press CASH or CREDIT CARD OR, use the Preset Cash keys for cash sales of 1, 5, 10 or 20. Offers: Multipack Prices Used for multipack prices on a single item (mainly beers) Does NOT allow mix and match (see mix and match multibuy below) Select the Item Press New Update qty and price as required e.g. Single price for 4.50, 6 for 6.00, etc. They must be set up in ascending order Press save when finished Epos Manual Page 6

7 Multi Buy: Select the item to be put in the offer Press NEW Press OFFERS (2 nd Tab) Press NEW OFFER GROUP Quantity :-change it to the quantity required to get the deal Type :- Select PRICE or DISCOUNT (normally PRICE) Value:- Value of deal If a PRICE Multibuy then this will be the full price of the deal (e.g. 2 for 1.50 then value will be 1.50) If a DISCOUNT multibuy then this will be the amount of discount (e.g. buy 2 get 50p off then value will be -0.50) Press SAVE Mix & Match: Get all the different items that are in the offer Create the multibuy on the first item (using multibuy instructions above) Save the offer (as instructed above) Press NEW (last item scanned must be the item you have just set the offer on) Press OFFERS (2 nd Tab) Press in the box Scan here to add other items to offer Now type the code for the OTHER items to add to the offer Press Save Dated Offers: Offers advanced tab will allow you to set start/stop dates for the offer Epos Manual Page 7

8 Cashier Names Press Utilities and Settings (Password SOFTSOL) You must use the keyboard to navigate Go to Terminal Sales Setting and press enter Go to Cashier Names and press enter Make your changes Press Esc, Esc, Esc to return to Main Menu Receipt Header Utilities and Settings Terminal Sales Settings Receipt Header Make your changes NOTE: Square Brackets [ ] around text make the text bold when printed, Be aware this will make the text larger and it may not fit on the width of the printer, use with caution. Press enter after the last change to ensure it is saved Press Esc, Esc, Esc to return to main menu How to do a Back-Up: From the Sales screen Press menu, then back office If you are on Dial-UP, enter the wire into the phone line. If you are on broadband, the wire should already be in the back of the computer, if it is not, enter the cable into the Ethernet port. Click on the relevant box (dial-up or broadband) Then press back up now This should now take you through a back-up to our server. Wait for the green box to come and say BACK-UP SUCCESFUL. 9 Common trouble shooting questions asked: Basic procedure Close down computer (start->turn off computer->turn off computer) When computer is off, physically remove the power cable from the computer for seconds Reconnect power and power up unit When the modern retailer program comes on screen, press the REPAIR button at the bottom, REINDEX all data files -> YES When rekeyed, click ok, this will close the program and leave you on the windows desktop. Double click on Modern Retailer, now use the till as normal Error Messages Error messages let you know something is wrong, if you get recurring error messages then please make a note of them so our tech helpline can identify the problem quickly. Generally speaking, error messages recur until the underlying problem is fixed, please do NOT ignore them 1. Why do a repair? It re-indexes all your files and you are less likely to have a problem. We recommend you do this when you feel your system maybe running slow or you find you have a problem with your till. Once weekly will also be fine. Epos Manual Page 9

10 2. Till freezes sometimes: Hold ALT and press C. This will cancel the program 3. Stock file departments wrong: From sales screen, press MENU and BACK OFFICE Go to STOCK FILE Find the item and check the department column. Should be the 9 th column from left. Change it to the correct department by typing the department number TO CHECK THE DEPARTMENT NUMBER, CLICK ON THE DEPARTMENT BUTTON ON TOP OF SCREEN AND THIS WILL SHOW YOU UNDER WHAT NUMBER THE DEPARTMENT IS. 4. Department keys are selling 1 price, I can t put my own prices anymore: Go to stock file Look in 5 th column from left that says PRICE and reset the price to 0.00, also scroll right to the column that says STATUS and make sure there is a O (note: O = Open Price and NOT a 0(ZERO) Epos Manual Page 10
