2 Three Ways To Access Files Instructors are able to access Files in three ways. 1. Personal Files: Settings > Files 3. Group Files: The group Files can be found in activity tools, such as Discussions, Announcements, and People. 2. Course Files: My Courses > Files Instructors have the options either to hide the Files from students or to make the Course Files visible to students in the course navigation menu. You may make the Files only available to you instead of allowing everyone in the class to view the Files. Instructors can upload course materials into Files with the same organization that they used to organize their files in their computers. In Files, users are able to upload files add folders edit or delete user materials download or upload a.zip folder preview files In Firefox, users are able to upload files to Files by simply dragging and dropping the files from a file window into the Canvas Files.
3 View File Structure Files: Instructors can choose course structures by weeks, units, or topics in Files. A well-organized files structure would benefit instructors to add or to search files quickly. 4 Import Files 1. Log in to Canvas 2. Select the Course that you would like to import the files to 3. Select Files in the left-hand course navigation menu 4. You will see the icon of import a zip file an arrow icon, in the right-hand corner. Please click on the Import a.zip folder icon to import.zip folder from your desktop 5. When you move your cursor on the top of any file, you will see three icons a locked this item icon to lock your files until you manually unlock or the options to let students download the files, a Pencil icon to rename your file, and a Trash Can icon to delete the file. 6. Click on the Lock this Folder to lock the folder. When you select the Lock until I manually unlock it, it only allows the instructors and TAs to access the files. 7. Click on the Pencil tool icon to rename the file
5 View Course Structure Modules: Instructors can use Modules to organize the course content based on topics, units, chapters, or weeks. You can add items to the Modules and create a flow for students to follow. You also can move the items up and down to change the order of your items. The Modules would definitely benefit instructors to manage the course materials easily. Instructors may add Assignments, Quiz, Files, Content Page, Discussions, Text Header, External URL, WebEx streaming video, and External Tool to each Module.
6 Create Modules Step 1: Select the Course from global navigation menu Step 2: Click on the Modules tab in the navigation menu Step 3: Click the Create A Module button in the top right corner Step 4: Enter the name of the Module Step 5: Select to lock the module until desired date Step 6: Choose the date to unlock the module Step 7: Click on the Add prerequisites link to view the module, students must complete the required assignment. (You may require students to complete activities inside the module before moving on to the next module and/or next activity.) Step 8: Click on the Add Module button. Congratulations! You ve successfully created a new course module!
7 Lock Modules Step 1: Select the course Step 2: Click on the Modules tab from the navigation menu Step 3: Click on the Gear icon Step 4: Select the Edit tab 7 8 Step 5: Select the Lock module until a given date Step 6: Set the date you would like to unlock at a given date Step 7: Option to Add prerequisite Step 8: Option to Add requirement Step 9: Click on the Update Module button 3 4 Step 10: Click on the Modules tab in the navigation menu, you will see the unlock date and time will appear in the right corner of your module and at the bottom of the module 9 10
8 Syllabus I: Overview The Syllabus page will allow instructors to communicate with students on the requirements of the course. In Syllabus, students will see syllabus, assignments, grades, and the due date for each assignment in one place Step 1: Select the Course you would like to add your Syllabus 4 Step 2: Click on the Syllabus tab in the navigation menu, you will see the Calendar[3], Grades[4], Assignments [5], and Syllabus [6] automatically linked in the same page. 5
9 Syllabus II: Adding Contents Step 1: Click on the Syllabus tab in the course navigation menu Step 2: Select the Edit Syllabus Description button Step 3.1: Use the rich content editor to enter course information (You may choose to copy content from your Word Documents and paste it) Step 3.2: Click on the Embed Image icon to embed the external image Step 3.3: Click on the Link to URL icon to link to website URL Step 3.4: Click on the Record and Upload Media icon to record or upload media
10 Syllabus III: Update Syllabus Please make sure that your syllabus file has been already uploaded to Files. Step 1: Click on the Syllabus tab from the course navigation menu Step 4: Click on the course files Step 2: Click on the Edit Syllabus Description from the right bar Step 5: Choose the syllabus file Step 3: Click on the Files tab to insert the syllabus into to the page Step 6: Click on the Update Syllabus button
