1 Getting started guide IMPAX Volume Viewing Configuration This guide describes the various configuration settings for IMPAX Volume Viewing. Some of these settings are only relevant if a license for one of the optional modules (e.g. Vessel Viewing) is available. The configuration dialog is accessed by clicking in the top toolbar. The various configuration settings are organized in different tabs. For most settings, a restart of the application is required before any changes are applied. The display settings are stored on IMPAX workstation level, other settings are stored on IMPAX user level. IMPAX Volume Viewing 2.2 LiveLink Node ID page 1 of 7

2 General Default gap size for cross hairs: o Sets the opening at the centre of the crosshairs, as a percentage of viewport size. Display warning when loading unevenly spaced slices: o Whether or not to display a warning when loading datasets with varying slice spacing. Display warning when demo or grace license is used: o Whether or not to display a warning when the used license is running in demo or grace mode. A license goes in grace mode when the application is not able to contact the license server. Typically, the grace period is 10 days. Enable window level synchronization: (requires IMPAX Volume Viewing Plus license) o Whether or not to link the window/level settings for both datasets, when two CT datasets are loaded. Annotation size: o Sets the font size of text mark-ups on normal viewports. Annotation size in full-screen: o Sets the font size of text mark-ups on large of full-screen viewports. Enable IMPAX way of window/leveling: o By default the window/level is changed using the middle mouse button. Enable this option to have W/L functionality similar as in IMPAX. 3 Display Default monitor: o Sets the default monitor on which the application appears when launched from IMPAX. Alternative monitor: o Sets the alternative monitor, to which the application can be moved by clicking the Switch monitor button in the top toolbar. Identify screen: o Displays the monitor numbers on screen. Always on top: o Whether or not to keep the application always on top (for example when manipulating the images in IMPAX Image area). o Caution: when enabling this setting, pop-up messages from other applications may remain hidden from view. 4 Default vs personal configuration: o For screen layout and hanging protocol setup, use the system (site) default or use the personal (user) configuration. Please contact your system administrator if the system defaults need to be changed. o Default screen layouts Here the user defines which screen layouts need to be available in IMPAX Volume o Viewing when clicking the screen layout button. A left mouse click will enable or disable a particular screen layout (blue border means enabled). Alt + left mouse click will set a certain layout as the default layout for IMPAX Volume Viewing (green border). This setup is separate for IMPAX Volume Viewing MIP/MPR and 3D, and only applies when one volume is loaded. Hanging protocol Here the user can define to display the volume in a certain way, based on the series or study description of the loaded images. Workflow Click the add button to create a new rule Enter the prerequisite text string which should be found in the series or study description Select the default screen layout (this will overrule the general default layout configured in the other tab, and the selected layout will be added to the default screen layouts selected in the other tab) Set the default MPR window/level Select the default MPR projection mode (MIP, MINIP, AVGIP) Set the default MPR slice thickness (in millimetres) Select the default 3D transfer function (Default or Endoscopic) Select the default 3D projection mode (DVR, MIP or XRAY) Select the default 3D orientation (Anterior, Posterior, Head, Feet, Left, Right) Remark: not all rule attributes have to specified. When for example the MPR window/level setting is not filled in, IMPAX Volume Viewing will apply the default window/level. When a series is loaded in IMPAX Volume Viewing, these rules will be checked in a sequential order, and the first rule which applies will be used. Use the up and down arrow keys to change the order of the defined rules. Click the del button to remove a rule. IMPAX Volume Viewing 2.2 LiveLink Node ID page 4 of 7

5 Quick Launch The Quick Launch feature becomes activated after starting IMPAX Volume Viewing (MIP/MPR or 3D) manually. If the Quick Launch feature is activated and enabled in the configuration, it automatically starts IMPAX Volume Viewing when moving to another CT or MRI study in the IMPAX Image area. Default vs personal configuration: o Use the system (site) default or use the personal (user) configuration. Please contact your system administrator if the system defaults need to be changed. If the personal configuration is enabled: Enabled modalities: Select for which modalities Quick Launch is active Series description(s): Add one or more text strings to look for in the series descriptions of the loaded study When opening a CT or MRI study with multiple series in the IMPAX Image area, Quick Launch will automatically pick the series with the smallest slice thickness. If multiple series are available with the same (smallest) slice thickness, Quick Launch will pick the series with the most images. If multiple of those series exist, Quick Launch will pick the first applicable series. The logic Quick Launch uses to pick a series can be overruled by adding series description strings. Quick Launch will then check if any series within the study contain one of the strings which were entered. If the string 3D was added in the Quick Launch configuration, series containing 3D in the series description will gain preference over other (thin slice) series. Quick Launch becomes automatically disabled while another plug-in (e.g. IMPAX PET/CT Viewing, intuition for IMPAX, etc.) is selected in the IMPAX Image area. 6 Export Max size for secondary captures: o Sets the maximum pixel dimensions for exported secondary captures (e.g. when set to 512, the number of pixel rows or columns will never exceed 512). The maximal dimension of the exported 3D animation: (requires IMPAX Volume Viewing 3D license) o Sets the maximum pixel dimensions for exported 3D animations. Series number of exported images: o Sets the DICOM series number (0020,0011) for images exported to IMPAX. This series number determines the ordering of series within the IMPAX Image area and its series tray. Default series description for exported 3D animation: (requires IMPAX Volume Viewing 3D license) o Sets the DICOM series description (0008,103e) for 3D animations exported to IMPAX. Default series description for exported secondary captures: o Sets the DICOM series description (0008,103e) for secondary captures exported to IMPAX. Default series description for exported fused series: (requires IMPAX Volume Viewing Plus license) o Sets the DICOM series description (0008,103e) for fused series exported to IMPAX Default series description for exported series: o Sets the DICOM series description (0008,103e) for reformatted series exported to IMPAX. Default frame rate of AVI movie: Sets the frame rate (fps frames per second) for exported AVI animations. IMPAX Volume Viewing 2.2 LiveLink Node ID page 6 of 7

7 Vessel Viewing (requires IMPAX Vessel Viewing license) There are three vessel tracking presets: Peripheral, Air-filled and Carotid. For each preset, the following default thresholds can be set: Upper border: o Sets the maximum voxel intensity (Hounsfield unit) that will be considered by the vessel tracking algorithm. Voxels containing a higher value will not be considered as part of the vessel to be traced. Lower border: o Sets the minimum voxel intensity (Hounsfield unit) that will be considered by the vessel tracking algorithm. Voxels containing a lower value will not be considered as part of the vessel to be traced. Upper penalty: o Sets the upper voxel intensity (Hounsfield unit) threshold of the range of intensities that will be preferred by the vessel tracking algorithm. Lower penalty: o Sets the lower voxel intensity (Hounsfield unit) threshold of the range of intensities that will be preferred by the vessel tracking algorithm. Voxels between the upper and lower penalty are coloured green in the default view when launching Vessel Viewing. Voxels between the upper border and upper penalty, and between the lower border and lower penalty, are coloured yellow. Try to make sure that the vessel to be analyzed (and only that vessel) is completely coloured green. IMPAX Volume Viewing 2.2 LiveLink Node ID page 7 of 7
