1 Roland DisplayStudio August 14, 2014 Roland DisplayStudio allows the designer to control the size of the screen region the playlist will play inside of with settings on the Layout tab. Along with changing the active playlist size various widgets for images, web content, RSS feeds, etc. can be added around or on top of the playlist. In the following guide we will explain how to create a layout that allows you to display a static image alongside an active playlist. This document will walk you through the steps to create a split screen with one portion of the screen using static content and the other portion of the screen using dynamic content. Static Content Dynamic Playlist Preparing your design for a split screen layout 1. Based off your entire screen width, determine how many pixels wide the static portion of the screen needs to be. The remaining pixel width will be reserved for the dynamic playlist. For example, for a screen that is 1920 pixels wide, to make the static content fit in 1/3 of the screen width, and the dynamic playlist 2/3 of the screen, the pixel configuration would be: Total Screen height: 1080 pixels Total landscape screen width: 1920 pixels 1 / 3 screen width: 640 pixels [or 16:27 aspect ratio] Remaining 2 / 3 screen width: 1280 pixels [or 32:27 aspect ratio]

2 2. Based on the numbers above the static content should be designed to be 640 pixels wide by 1080 pixels high and the dynamic graphics should be designed to be 1280 pixels wide by 1080 pixels high. These sizes will change based on the design of your layout. All graphics for both static and dynamic content must be designed to the proper pixel size or aspect ratio. If they are not, this will potentially cause scaling issues in playback. Note1: Roland offers four sizes of HD monitors. The 32 monitor has a pixel resolution of 1366 pixels by 768 pixels. The three larger monitors all have a resolution of 1920 pixels by 1080 pixels. Configuring layout settings in DisplayStudio 1. Click on the Layouts tab in the upper right of the window. Normally the default layout will be set to Empty which is configured to be full screen height and width (1920x1080). 2. Click on the button Create near the top and give the layout a name. 3. Make sure the Resolution setting is set to HD1080 landscape. Leave the Color set to black and the Scale mode set to Without deformation. 4. Click on the OK button. 5. You will see a light grey box in the middle of screen with the word Playlist in the center. Click on this once to activate it and you will see the control buttons appear near the top. 6. Click on the gear icon and a system settings box will open. Set the playlist width and height to your pre-determined pixel settings. In our example, this would be 1280x The playlist system setting now looks like the image below. Notice the size is now 1280x1080. You can move the playlist to the location desired by simply clicking and dragging.

3 8. Save the layout using the Save button 9. Click on the Playlist button above. Then create a dynamic playlist by dragging and dropping formatted graphics into the playlist library. Set the order and the duration time as you would any playlist. *Again, be sure that your graphics are formatted properly to fit in the determined playlist size. In our example, 1280x To add a widget with static content to your layout, click on the Layout tab button on the top right. 11. In the left column, with the list of widgets, select Image and click on the button. 12. A System settings box will open, click on the Choose button near the bottom.

4 13. Locate the graphic you will use for your static content select it and click on Open. The dimensions of the image will automatically change the width and height values in the System settings box.

5 The Layout window will now look like this. 14. You can click and drag your static content anywhere you would like it to display within your layout. For our example drag the widget to the upper left corner, you might notice it makes a small jump into position to make placement easier. 15. Save the Layout again using the Save button above. 16. Now select your Target screen and click on Send. At this point your display monitor will refresh and you will see both your static content and dynamic content. Note2: PowerPoint files will not scale when the layout is changed so their content should be adjusted to play in the correct portion of the screen.
