3 OVERVIEW The UpContent for Hootsuite content source provides an entire content curation workflow within one platform, helping to solve the time-consuming and tedious task of finding and acting on high-quality and relevant content. Now, users can discover interesting content in their niche, read the full-text of the article or blog post, compose an accompanying message, and then schedule their social media post all in one place. UpContent for Hootsuite allows users to: Access the most relevant and meaningful niche content based on your carefully developed search topic Sort content by unique filters like influence and shareability, in addition to recency and relevance Triple the amount of content that can be reviewed on a single screen. Add news articles and blog posts to the user s unique social queue using the compose box Save content for later review UpContent UpContent for Hootsuite Content Source 2

4 GETTING STARTED Installing the app To install UpContent for Hootsuite, navigate to If logged in, click Install. navigate to the left-hand menu and select App Directory. If not logged in, log in to your Hootsuite account and then click Install. Connecting the Content Source Once you have logged into your account and connected the UpContent for Hootsuite content source, hover on the left-hand navigation bar and click on Publisher. Under the Content Sources section, click on UpContent. Click Let s Get Started to launch the UpContent content source. Authorize the content source by clicking Yes. 6 Create an UpContent Account If you do not already have an UpContent account, follow the steps above to connect the content source and then click Create an Account. Fill out the form to include your address. Then click Register. UpContent UpContent for Hootsuite Content Source 5

7 Log into an Existing UpContent Account To log into an existing UpContent account, follow the steps above to connect the content source and then type in your address and password. If you forgot your password, click on Forgot Password to receive an ed link with instructions to reset your password. Onboarding Once the app is connected and you have logged into your account, navigate through the four onboarding panes by clicking the buttons located at the bottom of each slide. These slides will explain how to use UpContent effectively. UpContent UpContent for Hootsuite Content Source 6

8 TOPIC MANAGEMENT Create a topic After the initial set-up process, you will automatically be directed to the topic creation screen where you can develop a search query based on the results you wish (and don t wish) to find. In the first section under Query Builder type in the keywords and phrases that must be included in your results, hitting enter after each phrase. On the next line, add additional keywords and phrases you may want to see in your results. On the next line, add the keywords and phrases that you do not want included in your results. If you prefer, you can build your own search query using Boolean operators by clicking on the Enter My Own Query link. To create additional topics, click the gear icon next to the UpContent logo on the top navigation bar. After you are finished creating your topic, click Generate Query and then I m done. Finally, give the topic a name and UpContent will begin scouring the web for your desired content. UpContent UpContent for Hootsuite Content Source 7

9 Edit a topic To tweak existing topics, click the gear icon next to the UpContent logo on the top navigation bar. Click on Manage Your Account. Next, click on the gear icon next to the topic you wish to edit. Make your desired changes to your search keywords and phrases and finish by clicking Save. Click Cancel to discard any changes and return to your Settings screen. UpContent UpContent for Hootsuite Content Source 8

11 Delete a topic To remove a topic from your account, click the gear icon next to the UpContent logo on the top navigation bar. Click on Manage Your Account. Next, click the X next to the topic you wish to delete. UpContent UpContent for Hootsuite Content Source 10

12 Activate and deactivate a topic To activate a topic to appear within the content source, click on the gear icon next to the UpContent logo on the top navigation bar. Click on Manage Your Account. Next, click on the box to the left of the desired topic to insert a checkmark. This will activate the topic. To deactivate a topic from the content source, follow the same steps as above and deselect the box to remove the checkmark next to the topic you wish to remove. 15 INTERACTING WITH CONTENT SUGGESTIONS View content suggestions Content suggestions are arranged in a card layout, displaying the headline, source, publication date, and a short preview of the news article or blog post. Click on the content card to read the full-text version. Click the X in the top-right corner of this pop-up to return to all suggestions. UpContent UpContent for Hootsuite Content Source 14

16 Sorting options Content suggestions are sorted by filters located at the top of the content source. Type View suggestions by news articles, blog posts, or both. Click on each type to adjust which suggestions are displayed. Time Narrow suggestions by publish date within the past month, week, or day. Click on the desired time to adjust which suggestions are displayed. UpContent UpContent for Hootsuite Content Source 15

17 Sort Sort suggestions by relevance, recency, shareability, and influence. Click on the desired sorting filter to adjust the order in which suggestions are displayed. Relevance Sort: Displays results in order of most applicable based on the search phrase(s) present within the topic. Recency Sort: Displays content in order of most recently published Shareability Sort: Displays content in order of how shareable it is likely to be, based on its use of power words and phrases and the emotional response it evokes Influence Sort: Displays content in order of the most influential sources based on your search within your topic area based on the search phrase(s) UpContent UpContent for Hootsuite Content Source 16

18 Action Buttons Share: Click the arrow to populate the compose box with the article title and link to the original source. See Sharing to social, below, for more information. Favorite: Click the star to favorite the piece of content. This selected content can be accessed in the Favorited Suggestions Status menu in the navigation bar across the top of the screen. Delete: Click the X to remove this piece of content from suggestions. You will be presented with the option to restore this suggestion immediately after deletion. This option to restore is only present until the content source refreshes. Sharing to social Click on the arrow button on the suggestion you wish to share to open the compose box. By default, the title and the URL of the content will be displayed, but you can edit the message as desired. Select which social media accounts you would like to post to and then click Save to add to your Hootsuite queue or Send Now. UpContent UpContent for Hootsuite Content Source 17

19 ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT Edit Account Information Click on the gear icon next to the UpContent logo on the top navigation bar. Click on Manage Your Account. This will open a new tab where you can click edit to make changes to user information, payment plans, and topic information. You can also sign out using the Sign Out button on the top right corner.
