Dimension and Annotation Usability - Dimensions Dimension Usability has been improved in ST8 with the handle points on screen to make the following Dimensions more consistence and easier to modified without going into properties of each Dimension. Connect Handles Modify Handles Dimension Text Handles Break Line Handles Shared Connect Point Text Position Snap to Center Jog Snap Position Selected Dimension Display with Hidden or Modified Components Extension Line along Projection Line Terminator Handle Page 6
Dimension and Annotation Usability - Dimensions Handle colors have been added (Solid Edge Options) to help understand the different types of handles such as connect handles or modify handles. Connect Handle This is the handle at which the annotation is connected to another object. Modify Handles These are the handles that can be dragged to manipulate the annotation display. Terminator Handle This is the handle to bring up the terminator dialog box. Page 7
Dimension and Annotation Usability Dimensions Break line dimensions display a modify handle at the text end of the break line. This handle is used to change the length of the break line. Page 11
Dimension and Annotation Usability Dimensions Chain and Stacked Dimensions Shared connect point handles will only display one modify handle for both dimensions. If the modify handle is moved it will move both extension lines at the same time. ( Shift+Drag will move only the highlighted modify connection point.) Page 12
Dimension and Annotation Usability Dimensions Text Position Snap A new indicator has been added to display the midpoint on a dimension line. Page 14
Dimension and Annotation Usability Dimensions Jog Snap Position A snap line indicator is displayed to show where the jog line will snap to remove the jog. This does not change the jog behavior. It is just displaying feedback to where the jog is removed. Page 15
Dimension and Annotation Usability Dimensions* Selected Dimension Display with Hidden or Modified Components. Projection lines and Dimension lines can now be hidden with a left mouse click on the Terminator Handle. Page 16
Dimension and Annotation Usability Dimensions Extension Line along Projection Line When an Projection line is shorten, a dashed line is visible to display where the connection point for that dimension is located. Page 18
Dimension and Annotation Usability Dimensions Terminator Handle To change the appearance of the Terminator, user can left mouse click the Terminator handle to bring up a shortcut menu and then select the Terminator type. Page 19

Custom Material Properties Support in Draft ST7 Custom Material Properties had been added to part modeling. In the draft file Solid Edge could not extract any custom property in callouts. ST8 now has the ability to use any type of Custom Material Property in callouts when using property text. Page 71
Custom Material Properties Support in Draft In the draft file when placing a callout using a Custom Material Property the user has to use the property text command and From graphic connection to link the property. Page 72
Custom Material Properties Support in Draft The Custom Material Properties can also be extracted in the Parts List. DEMO-7 Page 73
Reference Text in Additional Annotations Reference text functionality began in ST7. With ST8 the Reference text has been expanded into the following areas: Cutting Plane Auxiliary View Plane Detail Envelope GOST Weld Symbol Page 74
Reference Text in Additional Annotations Cutting Plane Cutting Plane annotations can now be selected from within the Callout command once the user goes into the Reference text command. Page 75

C-Diameter Alignment In previous releases of Solid Edge, Smart Dimensions would place C- Diameter dimensions (Concentric Diameter). This command had no way to automatically stack, align, group and space dimensions. New to ST8 is an option in the command ribbon bar called Concentric Diameter when using the Smart Dimension command. Page 90
C-Diameter Alignment Concentric Diameter automatically stacks, aligns, groups and spaces dimensions. After the first dimension is placed all of the other C-Diameter dimensions only require a single click to select the diameter. The placement is automatic. When using the C-Diameter command all dimensions are forced to be linear. Page 91
C-Diameter Alignment Concentric Diameter dimensions can not be stack, align, grouped or spaced with any other dimensions. Alt+drag will break the alignment group of the selected dimension. C-Diameter alignment groups work like all alignment groups in Solid Edge. Page 92
C-Diameter Alignment Dimension Styles has an option on the Lines and Coordinate tab to Alternate text position. DEMO-9 Page 93
Hole Callout Improvements This is an addition to the Format codes for Hole Callouts. The following codes have been added to the Format code list under Symbols and Values, Values, Feature References. Taper Ratio and Taper Angle V-Bottom Angle Thread Tap drill diameter Internal minor diameter Nominal diameter Page 94
Hole Callout Improvements Underline Text An option has been added to Underline Text in callouts. GB standard now supports Underline Text Page 98
Reference Part Display Control New option has been added to Solid Edge option to control the default appearance of Reference parts in a drawing. Page 99
Reference Part Display Control Default setting for reference parts display are set to on. Page 100
Reference Part Display Control With all the default setting, reference parts come into a drawing view transparent. Page 101
Reference Part Display Control With this option turned off all reference parts will come into the drawing view solid. Page 102
Reference Part Display Control User still has control over the display of reference parts by going into view properties and selecting the Display tab and the Model options tab. Page 103
Optional Not Display Drawing View Out-ofdate When drawing views are out-of-date and Draft file is opened, there is a dialog displayed stating this. A check box on the dialog to 'Do not show this again." Out-of-date drawing views already have the gray box, corners, etc. to indicate that they are Out-of-date. Page 104
Table Text Margin Control Previously table cell text margins were controlled by a single value for both horizontal/vertical margins. ST8 there s now independent control for both horizontal and vertical. Page 105
Free 2D Drafting license The free 2D drafting license is now a permanent license as of ST8 instead of a timed license. Page 106
Scaled Nailboards Previously in Nailboard drawings all views came in at a scale of 1 : 1. ST8 now has options to control view scale. Page 107

Solid Edge Hints and Tips Where do I find lists of the default shortcut keys for each Solid Edge environment? Page 109
Solid Edge Hints and Tips Open a Part Customize the Command Ribbon Select the environment Select the keyboard tab Change "Choose commands from:" to "All Keyboard Assignments" Page 110
Solid Edge Hints and Tips Note that you can print out the keyboard assignments for each environment Page 111
Solid Edge Hints and Tips With the popular use of dual monitors while in the office, have you ever had a "missing" dialog box when you working remote on your laptop just using a single screen? The dialog is most likely being displayed on the second monitor. To fix this delete the following registry key to restore normal functionality: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Unigraphics Solutions\Solid Edge\Version 108\OpenAndSaveDisplaySettings Page 112
Solid Edge Hints and Tips Do you know how to make cross-hatching look the same zoomed in as it looks when zoomed to fit? Make the hatch not resize dynamically while zooming in Page 113
Solid Edge Hints and Tips If you set Solid Edge Options > View tab > Display as printed, then it won't change as you zoom in and out Page 114
Solid Edge Hints and Tips Force drawing views that are showing up-to-date to recompute by holding down CTRL+SHIFT and clicking on Update Views In some special cases a change may not put drawing views out-of-date and so simply clicking Update Views would not recompute the drawing view Page 115
Solid Edge Hints and Tips When placing a dimension using the default Automatic option and the dimension type is Horizontal/Vertical, you have the option to use the Shift key to switch the option to by 2 points before placing the dimension. When placing a dimension using the default Automatic option and the dimension type is not an obvious Horizontal/Vertical, you have the option to use the Shift key to switch the option to Horizontal/Vertical before placing the dimension.
