1 Monogrammed Tea Towels Use your creative talents to digitize these lovely tea towels using MasterWorks II. These are great for a guest bathroom or to give as a gift. Personalizing your towels adds a special touch and has never been more fun or easier to do. 2 Supplies: MasterWorks II by Designer s Gallery Baby Lock embroidery machine White linen tea towels (purchased) Embroidery & bobbin thread Dissolve-away mesh stabilizer Temporary spray adhesive Webdings 2 font (installed in the font folder) Water soluble marker Instructions: 1. Open the program by clicking on the MasterWorks II icon on the desktop. 2. To open into the Font folder, click on the Import TT Artwork icon. Type the letter K in the Font field. Click on Select. Select a block style font. (In the sample, Century Gothic was used.) Under the Style field, select Bold. Click on OK twice to send the TT font to the workspace. 3. Always resize the artwork before digitizing. To resize the artwork, click on the Transform tab in the Properties field. 3 and click on Apply. 4. Using the Navigator Window, slide the scroll bar all the way to the right. (If the Navigator Window is not on your screen, click on Tool Bars and place a checkmark next to Navigator, or use the short cut key, Alt W to activate the window.) To navigate through the selected image, drag the red box within the Navigator Window to move about the image/design in the zoomed in mode. Center the window over the center of the letter K (as shown in the illustration). 5. In this step we will slice the long leg of the letter K from the rest of the letter. Left click on the letter to select. Click on the down arrow next the Reform tool and select the Slice tool. Place the first point outside the line that defines the shape in the top V of the letter K. Place the second point outside the reverse V of the letter K. (Refer to the illustration below for exact placement.) {Designer s Gallery Project} Monogrammed Tea Towels Page 3

4 First point placed Second point placed After the points are placed, right click on the mouse for the slice to be applied. The slice will be indicated with a red line (as shown in the illustration above). The areas will be shown under Sequence View (as shown below). 6. Next, apply fill to the lettering. Click on each of the segments from the letter and select Auto Column from the Stitch Effect toolbar. 7. With both segments of the letter selected, click on the Center tool to center the letter on the workspace. {Designer s Gallery Project} Monogrammed Tea Towels Page 4

5 8. The next part to be digitized will be the decorations on each side of the letter. Click on the Import TT Artwork icon and type in a lowercase letter d. Click on Select. Scroll down and select the Webdings 2 font. Click on OK twice to send the decoration to the workspace. 9. To digitize the decoration, left click to select and then click on Auto Column from the Stitch Effect toolbar. 10. To duplicate the decoration, right click on the decoration and select Copy from the list of commands. Right click again and choose Paste. Position the duplicated decoration on the opposite side of the letter. 11. To mirror image the decoration, click on Flip Horizontal. 12. Change the color of the decorations by selecting a Color Palette of your choice. Choose the color chip that matches your room decor. 13. For perfect alignment, select All Items under Sequence View. From the down arrow next to The Center tool, choose Vertical Center Align. 14. To save the design, click on File Save As and give the design a name. Save to the Working file folder as a.blf file. 15. Click on File, Save As and save the design to the media source that your machine reads as a.pes file. 16. Using a water soluble marker, mark the center position of the monogram on the tea towel with cross lines. 17. Hoop the stabilizer along with the towel, making sure that the center point is positioned in the center of the hoop. The cross lines should line up with the markings on the sides of the hoop. 18.
