The steps below outline how to open a file that a teacher has made available to you and uses SMART Notebook as an example. ipad instructions will be marked in green throughout the document. 1.

1 SMART Notebook, Office, and BYOD These productivity programs are accessed through U5 Cloud on personal devices. They will then run remotely and the display is pushed to your device. Opening files from your teachers that are in these formats (.notebook,.docx, etc ) involve using the home drive, which is located in U5 Cloud. The steps below outline how to open a file that a teacher has made available to you and uses SMART Notebook as an example. ipad instructions will be marked in green throughout the document. 1. YOUR TEACHER WILL MAKE THE NECESSARY FILE AVAILABLE TO YOU THROUGH ONE OF A VARIETY OF METHODS. MANY TEACHERS WILL PLACE THESE FILES ON THEIR CMS PAGE, SOME MAY SHARE THEM WITH YOU THROUGH GOOGLE DRIVE, AND STILL OTHERS COULD PUT THEM ON THEIR WEBSITE. ONE WAY OR ANOTHER YOU NEED TO DOWNLOAD THAT FILE EITHER TO YOUR DEVICE HARD DRIVE (MOST DEVICES) OR YOUR GOOGLE DRIVE (IN THE CASE OF AN IPAD). NOTE: If using a device that does not have a file saving architecture (i.e. an ipad), you will need to have the Google Drive app installed before attempting Step 1. Once installed and signed into with your district Google account, clicking on a link like above will present you with the option to open the file with Google Drive. Doing this will save the file in your Google Drive. 2. NOW WE NEED TO UPLOAD THIS FILE TO YOUR HOME DRIVE FROM WITHIN U5 CLOUD. NOTE: The follow steps work with all devices that have file storage architecture. ipad instructions for this process can be found in the Appendix at the end of the document. Navigate to U5 Cloud > webstorage.

Click on Home Drive. SMART Notebook, Office, and BYOD Choose Upload.

(in this case it is in the Downloads folder), click Open (3), and

Click Choose File (1), find the file (2) that is saved on your device (in this case it is in the Downloads folder), click Open (3), and click Upload (4), and finally click Done. You can now close webstorage by clicking the X in the upper right of the U5 Cloud screen.

NOW THAT THE FILE IS UPLOADED TO YOUR HOME DRIVE, YOU CAN OPEN THE CLOUD-BASED PROGRAM THAT IT IS ASSOCIATED WITH (IN THIS CASE, SMART NOTEBOOK) AND OPEN THAT FILE. Click on the program tile in U5 Cloud (i.e. SMART Notebook). You will find these tiles in the Application tabs along the bottom of U5 Cloud. NOTE: If it does not load, close the new tab that was opened and click on the tile again from U5 Cloud. NOTE: SMART Notebook will display two screens which indicate that 3D Tools will not run, and DirectX 10 is not installed. You will click Okay on both of these screens. Click on File > Open Click This PC Scroll to the bottom of the window Click on the H: drive (your SIS number will be displayed Click Open

Once opened, you can interact with the file in the

4 SMART Notebook, Office, and BYOD Choose the file from your Home Drive that you wish to open, click Open. Once opened, you can interact with the file in the same way as if you had the program installed on your computer.

Appendix SMART Notebook, Office, and BYOD The steps for uploading to the Home Drive are different for an ipad because the

5 Appendix SMART Notebook, Office, and BYOD The steps for uploading to the Home Drive are different for an ipad because the tablet does not have a file architecture. This means that we will be moving the file from our Google Drive into our Home Drive. 1. Make sure that the file is in your Google Drive by following the note under Step 1 above. 2. Navigate to U5 Cloud > webstorage. 3. Click on Google Drive. 4. If you are not currently signed into your district Google account, you will be prompted to do so. 5. Allow the connection between your Google Drive and webstorage. 6. Now your Google Drive files will appear in webstorage. 7. Find the file that you saved to your Google Drive in Step Long press on the file to bring up a list of options. 9. Choose Copy.
