2 Foreword Beijer Electronics Data Collector Manual Foreword Beijer Electronics Data Collector is used to save trend and alarm data logged in the operator panels to a database in a PC. Since the number of records is limited only by the capacity of the database, much more data can be stored compared to the operator panel. The software can also be used to manage transfer of recipes. The connection can be made via Ethernet, a modem (PPP) or a null modem PPP. The information from the database can be presented in graphs and tables. Beijer Electronics AB, MAEN826B, All examples in this manual are only intended to improve understanding of the functionality and handling of the equipment. Beijer Electronics AB cannot assume any liability if these examples are used in real applications. In view of the wide range of applications for this software, users must acquire sufficient knowledge themselves in order to ensure that it is correctly used in their specific application. Persons responsible for the application and the equipment must themselves ensure that each application is in compliance with all relevant requirements, standards and legislation in respect to configuration and safety. 5 Introduction 1 Introduction Beijer Electronics Data Collector is a software that: Makes trend and alarm records logged in operator panels available in a database on a PC. Increases the number of trend and alarm records that can be stored. Manages transfer of recipes. Beijer Electronics Data Collector consists of two programs: Beijer Electronics Data Collector and Beijer Electronics Viewer. Beijer Electronics Data Collector connects automatically to a number of operator panels and collects trends and alarm data, and writes to a database. Recipes can also be automatically downloaded from the operator panels. The connection can either be via Ethernet, a modem (PPP), or a null modem PPP. Since the number of records is limited only by the capacity of the database, much more data can be stored compared to the operator panel. Beijer Electronics Viewer reads the information from the database and presents it in graphs and tables. Beijer Electronics Viewer can also view recipe files. 7 System Requirements 2 System Requirements The software works with Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows VISTA and Windows 7. Dial-Up Networking must be installed in Windows if RAS connections are to be used. Acrobat Reader must be installed to view the help file. A USB/parallel port key is used to authorize Beijer Electronics Data Collector. Without the key, the program will run in demo mode for 10 days. 2.1 Databases The software has been tested with the following databases: Microsoft Access, MSDE, and Microsoft SQL Server but should work together with any database with ODBC. If the included Microsoft Access database is used, it is recommended that the database file is placed on the same computer as Beijer Electronics Data Collector, and that the size of the database is kept under 100 Mbyte. Otherwise a more powerful database should be used. 2.2 Connecting to Operator Panels Beijer Electronics Data Collector has two ways of communicating with operator panels: Via Ethernet or via PPP. Here follows four examples how this can be used Ethernet The computer with Beijer Electronics Data Collector and any number of the operator panels are connected to Ethernet. In this case the operator panels must have an Ethernet card installed. Ethernet PPP via a Modem to a Remote Computer with a Modem The computer with Beijer Electronics Data Collector uses RAS and a modem to call up a remote computer. The remote computer and any number of operator panels are connected to Ethernet. In this case the operator panels must have an Ethernet card installed. 8 System Requirements PPP via a Modem to an Operator Panel with a Modem The computer with Beijer Electronics Data Collector uses RAS and a modem to call up one operator panel. In this case the RS232 port on the operator panel will be occupied by the modem. If the modem is to be used by other applications for monitoring of devices at a connected controller, the transparent mode protocol cannot be used, instead a tunneled transparent mode protocol have to be used. PPP PPP RS PPP via a Null Modem Cable The computer with Beijer Electronics Data Collector uses RAS and a null modem cable to connect to the RS232 port set up for PPP on one operator panel. This case could be useful if the operator panel do not have a network or a modem. In this case the RS232 port on the operator panel will be occupied by the PPP. If the modem is to be used by other applications for monitoring of devices at a connected controller, the transparent mode protocol cannot be used, instead a tunneled transparent mode protocol have to be used. The RS232 port may still be used for transfer of the operator panel project from the PC to the operator panel though. 9 System Requirements Settings for Time Format The operator panel must use one of these time formats: HH:MM:SS HH:MM If the time format HH:MM is used in the operator panel, the second will be forced to 00. This will affect the data in this way: Trends Only one trend record from within the same minute will be saved in the database. Alarms If the same alarm has been activated in the same minute more than once, only the first alarm for that minute will be saved in the database Settings for FTP Server The operator panel must have an FTP server installed: In the Setup menu, select Network/Services. Check FTP Server. Setting up Network Services It is possible to use accounts for FTP Access. In the Setup menu, select Network/Accounts. Set Account name and Password (can be left blank) for a new account, and check FTP Access in the list. Click Append. Beijer Electronics Data Collector can use this account when connecting. 10 System Requirements Settings if Using a Modem (PPP) If the connection to the operator panel is made via a modem (PPP), some settings have to be made in the operator panel project: Double-click on the Peripherals folder in the Project Manager. In the Peripheral Configuration window, drag TCP/IP Connection 2 to the RS-232C COM port. Right-click on TCP/IP Connection 2 and make the following settings: Settings for TCP/IP Parameter Connection name Act as Serial protocol PPP - Login verification method Setting Enter a name for the connection. However, Beijer Electronics Data Collector will not use it. Server PPP None If login is preferred, check PAP or CHAP. Click Advanced. Advanced PPP settings Enter the Local address; in this case This address is the operator panel address, and Beijer Electronics Data Collector will connect to this address when using PPP. Enter the Remote address; in this case This is the address of the PC where Beijer Electronics Data Collector runs. 10 Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B

11 System Requirements If for some reason one or both of these addresses cannot be used by the PC where Beijer Electronics Data Collector runs, change both addresses here in the Advanced PPP Settings window. Uncheck Use remote address as gateway Settings if Using a Null Modem Cable and PPP If the connection to the operator panel is made via a null modem cable (PPP), some settings have to be made in the operator panel project: Double-click on the Peripherals folder in the Project Manager. In the Peripheral Configuration window, drag TCP/IP Connection 2 to the RS-232C COM port. Right-click on TCP/IP Connection 2 and make the following settings: Settings for TCP/IP Parameter Connection name Act as Serial protocol PPP - Login verification method Setting Enter a name for the connection. However, Beijer Electronics Data Collector will not use it. Server PPP None If login is preferred, check PAP or CHAP. Check Use logon script and click Edit script. Advanced PPP settings Enter the Local address; in this case This address is the operator panel address, and Beijer Electronics Data Collector will connect to this address when using PPP. Enter the Remote address; in this case This is the address of the PC where Beijer Electronics Data Collector runs. If for some reason one or both of these addresses cannot be used by the PC where Beijer Electronics Data Collector runs, change both addresses here in the Advanced PPP Settings window. Uncheck Use remote address as gateway Settings if Using DHCP If using DHCP, a setting has to be made in the operator panel project. Since the operator panel in this case is assigned an IP address from a DHCP server, it must have a name to be identified by in the network. In the Setup menu, select Network/TCP/IP Connections/Connection1. Selecting DHCP Select DHCP from the list and enter a connection name. This name will represent the operator panel in the network. The network has to be configured so that the operator panel can be identified using its name. (Check this with your network administrator.) If the settings have been configured properly it should be possible to ping the operator panel using the command: ping PanelName In Beijer Electronics Data Collector you should use the operator panel name instead of the IP address under Settings. 12 Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B

13 Installation 3 Installation Beijer Electronics Data Collector is installed in the computer by double-clicking on Setup.exe, or by selecting Run from the Start menu and typing e:\setup.exe (assuming that e: is the default drive for the CD), and following the instructions. Selecting components during installation It is possible to install one of the two programs in case you want to run Beijer Electronics Data Collector and Beijer Electronics Viewer on two different computers. This is possible only if both computers can connect to the same database. You may want to use a database like Microsoft SQL Server in that case. 3.1 HASP When Beijer Electronics Data Collector is started, the HASP key must be inserted into the USB or parallel port, otherwise the program will run in demo mode for a limited trial period. 3.2 Multiple Data Collectors It is possible to run more than one Beijer Electronics Data Collector in a computer. Multiple copies of the Beijer Electronics Data Collector software must be installed in different folders so that they have their own INI files for settings. Start the programs with the command line parameter -Multiple to allow multiple copies of the program to run, e.g. C:\Program Files\Beijer Electronics AB\ BEDataCollector\BEDataCollector.exe -Multiple. 3.3 Uninstalling the Software To uninstall Beijer Electronics Data Collector, run Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel. 15 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector 4 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector Beijer Electronics Data Collector is a program that communicates with operator panels that are connected with the host computer in an Ethernet network, or via modem (PPP). The program collects all alarms and trends from one operator panel at the time and writes them to a database. Only new data will be added to the database. Recipes can also be automatically downloaded from the operator panels. To start Beijer Electronics Data Collector, double-click its icon on the Windows desktop or select the program from the Start menu. 4.1 The Main Window The main window has a menu and a status bar. Use this function to define operator panels, database, and other settings. Use this function to show the log file with messages from the program. Use this function to exit the program. 16 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector The Tools Menu The Tools menu has three options: The Tools menu Option The Status Bar The status bar has three parts: Description Manual collection This allows the user to collect data from the operator panels instantly. Convert from files Convert from trend and alarm files in a specified folder. Transfer recipes A tool for manual transfer of recipes from/to the operator panel. In the left part, Beijer Electronics Data Collector displays different types of messages. The middle part displays the date and time for the next automatic collection of data from operator panels. The right part of the status bar displays current date and time in the computer Cancel Button and Error Messages When the program collects data, a button with a stop sign will be displayed in the window. The button can be used to cancel the collection. If there is an error message in the log file, a symbol and the text Error(s) reported in logfile will be displayed. 17 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector Minimizing the Application If Beijer Electronics Data Collector is minimized, its icon will be displayed in the notification area in the bottom right-hand corner on the screen. When in the notification area, the program can be restored to normal size again by double-clicking the icon in the systray. Right-click the icon in the notification area to display a small menu. 18 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector 4.2 Settings The settings dialog has three tabs: Terminals, Database and General. Clicking a tab displays the settings for that tab The Terminals Tab All information about an operator panel is defined on the Terminals tab. When all the information is entered click the Save button. Clicking Cancel cancels all changes made (except new RAS connections in Windows.) If changes are made and the Cancel button is clicked, a message will appear notifying about unsaved changes. 19 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector Importing from Project Click the Import from project button to import all the settings from an operator panel project. Choose a project from the open file dialog and click Open. Enter a name for the operator panel or click OK. Entering a panel name If the operator panel project has settings to allow connection both by PPP and Ethernet, the program will ask which one to use. (This can be changed later.) If the operator panel project has support for multiple languages, the program will ask for the default language to use for alarm group names and alarm texts. Selecting default language The import function will show a message like this if it discovers any of the issues mentioned in chapter Special Issues. Special issues report If PPP was selected, the program will ask if the settings for the PPP connection should be completed now. (These settings can be changed later.) An operator panel will be added to the list in the Terminals window, containing information about IP-address, username, password, trends and alarms. The trend curves will have the names of the signals that the operator panel uses. Even though it is possible to enter all settings manually, it is recommended to use the import function. 20 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector Operator Panel Information To view the settings for an operator panel, select that operator panel in the operator panel list. The checkbox to the left of the operator panel name in the list is used to enable or disable the operator panel. If an operator panel is disabled, no data for that operator panel will be collected. The following settings can be made for the operator panel: Parameter Ethernet or PPP IP Address/ URL Terminal (FTP) User Name Terminal (FTP) Password Terminal (RAS) Connection Terminal (RAS) Phone Date Time Format FTP Delimiter CF/USB Max folders Description Select if the connection to the operator panel should be via Ethernet or via a modem (PPP). The IP address for the operator panel. If Ethernet and DHCP is used, it can also be a name that identifies the operator panel. This name must be the same as an account name for an account with FTP access. Leave blank if accounts are not used. The password for the account. Leave blank if accounts are not used. The name of a Windows RAS Connection. The field will only be visible if PPP is selected. The phone number to the modem connected to the operator panel. Or left empty if a null modem cable is used. The field will only be visible if PPP is selected. These settings must be identical to the ones used in the operator panel, or the data cannot be saved to the database. This setting must be identical to the one used in the operator panel, or the data cannot be saved to the database. Note that depending on delimiter, the files saved in the _Temp directory will have different file extensions and file formats. If enabled, also the trends saved to Compact Flash or USB memory via the operator panel backup function will be collected and stored in the database. If CF/USB is enabled only so many folders specified for Max folders will be downloaded from the operator panel. Set to 0 if no limit. Post Processing Clicking the Post processing button makes it possible to enter the path and file name of an application that is to be run when data for the current operator panel are collected. This application will be started with the parameters entered in the field called With parameters. Post processing A small green square on the Post processing button indicates that post processing is enabled for the current operator panel. Note that the application will be started after every collection for that operator panel, it is up to that application to stop running. E.g. if the program name is C:\Program Files\MyApp.exe and the parameter is /Panel1, Beijer Electronics Data Collector will make this call C:\Program Files\MyApp.exe /Panel1. Post processing can either be enabled or disabled. 20 Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B

21 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector Collection Interval Clicking the Collection interval button makes it possible to configure a special collection interval for an operator panel. Like post processing, this can be enabled or disabled. When enabled, data collection for this operator panel will only occur according to interval specified here. However, if manual collection is initiated, data for all/included operator panels will be collected disregarding collection interval. Collection interval for the operator panel First select the interval of the automatic collection. Days, Hours, Minutes or Manual can be selected. If the interval is set to Manual, data for this operator panel will not be downloaded automatically on a time interval. Then enter values for the fields Collect every and start date and time. Example: If the Collection interval is set to Days, the Collect every to 7, and start date and time is :00:00, the automatic collection will run once every week, starting at :00:00. The program will update the date and time value for next collection when the collection has been done. In the example the next date and time will be set to :00:00. Recipes Checking Enable recipe collection downloads recipes from the current operator panel. This also requires that the Collect recipes checkbox on the General tab is checked and that a collection directory has been specified. If not all recipe files should be downloaded, a prefix can be defined. Only recipe files starting with this prefix will be downloaded. Leave blank otherwise. Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B 21

22 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector Retries If the connection to an operator terminal fails, the program will try to again later. Max number of retries states how many such retries and Interval between retries how many minutes between each attempt. If all attempts fails, data from this operator terminal will not be collected until its time for next automatic collection. RAS Click the RAS button to create or check RAS connections. Adding a RAS connection Select a connection from the RAS connections in Windows, or enter a name for a new connection and click the Create button to make a new connection in Windows. New connections can also be created in the Windows Control Panel. Click the Properties button to view the settings for the connection in Windows. Enter a phone number for this operator panel. The phone number will be used when calling this operator panel with the selected RAS connection; there is no need to have a RAS connection in Windows for each operator panel. The phone number may be left empty if a null modem cable is used. Click the Connect button to check that the RAS connection works. Check the messages in the list to make sure that a successful connection could be established, and click the Disconnect button to hang up. Click OK to confirm the selection of connection and phone number for this operator panel. Click Cancel to leave the dialog without saving changes. Clicking Cancel will not undo new RAS connections made in Windows though. Ping Terminal Click the Ping terminal button to determine if it is possible to establish a connection to the selected operator panel. 22 Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B

23 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector FTP Mode Click the FTP mode button to change the settings for the FTP. These settings should normally not be changed, unless there is a problem with the firewall settings. FTP mode settings The default setting is Active mode. For some firewalls, Passive mode (WWW style) can be more useful. Add Operator Panel To add a new operator panel manually, click the Add terminal button. Adding an operator panel manually Parameter Terminal Name IP Address / URL Terminal (FTP) Username Terminal (FTP) Password Description The name of the operator panel that describes the operator panel. The name does not have to be the same as for the operator panel project. Enter the operator panel IP address if connecting via Ethernet. If connecting via modem (PPP), this field may be left blank. The address can also be a name that identifies the operator panel on the Ethernet if DHCP is used. Please see the section Settings if Using DHCP. This name must be the same as an account name for an account with FTP access. Leave blank if accounts are not used. The password for the account. Leave blank if accounts are not used. Delete Operator Panel To delete an operator panel, select it in the list and click the Delete button, or press Delete on the keyboard. The operator panel will be removed from the list. 24 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector Alarm Groups Add Alarm Group To add a new alarm group, click the Add Alarms button, and enter a name for the group. Adding an alarm group The name must be exactly the same as in the operator panel project. The name can only have uppercase characters and a maximum length of 8 characters. This name will be used in the database as the default alarm group name. Alarm Alias If the project has support for multiple languages, an alarm group may have different names in the languages used. All of these names must be entered in the alias list for the alarm group. When reading the alarms from the operator panel, the alarm group name will be converted to the default name before they are stored in the database. The default name is the name in the alarm group list. Click the Alias List button to add aliases. The Alias list In the picture the name LARM is the default name, and the name ALARMS is in the alias list. If the operator panel is set to English, the name ALARMS will be changed to LARM before alarms are stored in the database. Delete Alias To delete an alias from the list, select it, and click the Delete Alias button. Add Alias To add an alias to the list, first type the name in the field at the bottom of the dialog. Then click the Add Alias button. The default alarm group name cannot be added to the alias list. Delete Alarm Group To delete an alarm group, select it in the list and click the Delete button, or press Delete on the keyboard. The alarm group will be removed from the list and no alarms from this group will be collected from the operator panel. If the alarm group had an alias list, this will be deleted as well. The alarms for this alarm group will not be removed from the database though. 24 Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B

25 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector Alarm Texts If multiple languages are used in the operator panel project, the alarm texts for the languages can be edited by clicking the Alarm texts button. Editing alarm texts To edit a text, click on that cell and change the text. There is one column per language. The default language is marked with the text (Default). New Language Click the New language button to add a language. Adding a language Enter the name of the language and click OK. It is possible to use more languages than in the operator panel, making it possible to convert alarm texts to a language not defined in the operator panel. Delete Language Click the button Delete language to delete a language. Deleting a language Select the language to delete and click OK. It is possible to have fewer languages than in the operator panel, but if the operator panel is set to use a language that is missing in settings, then the alarm texts cannot be converted to the default language when collected. There is really no reason to delete a language. Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B 25

26 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector Set Default Click the Set default button to set another language as the default language. Setting another language as the default language Select a language to set as the default language and click OK. When the alarms are collected from an operator panel, the alarm texts will be converted to the default language before they are saved in the database. If there are alarms in the database already, and another default language is selected, the alarm texts stored in the database will not be changed. New Alarm Click the New alarm button to add a new alarm in the table. A new row in the table will be created where the alarm texts for all languages can be entered. It is also possible to add new alarms by moving below the bottom row in the table using the down arrow key. Delete Alarm To delete an alarm, select that row in the table, and press Delete on the keyboard. It is possible to have fewer alarms in the settings than in the operator panel. This could be useful for example if the conversion of a special alarm text to the default language is not wanted. One case might be if Text 1 in Language A is the same as Text 2 in Language B. This rare situation could make Beijer Electronics Data Collector convert to the wrong text. 26 Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B

27 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector Trends The operator panel data logger object is also supported in Beijer Electronics Data Collector. The only difference between the data logger object and the trend object is that the data logger object can contain up to 16 curves and the trend object only 6. The data logger object will be referenced as a trend object further on in this document. Add Trend To add a new trend, click the Add Trend button, and enter a name. Adding a trend The name must be exactly the same as in the operator panel project, otherwise the trend data cannot be found in the operator panel. The name can only have uppercase characters and a maximum length of 8 characters. When the trend is added, it is possible to add trend curves for that trend. Delete Trend To delete a trend, select it in the list and click the Delete button, or press Delete on the keyboard. The trend will be removed from the list and this trend will not be collected from the operator panel. The database table for the trend will not be removed though. Add Trend Curve Trend curves can be added to trends. Adding a trend curve The first curve added will be assigned to Curve 1 in the operator panel project, and so on. Gain and Offset can be used to calculate the value before it is stored in the database, using this formula: Result = Gain * Signal + Offset Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B 27

28 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector Also decide whether the curve should be logged as one of the two special formats ASCII or Positive Double Register. ASCII Format Positive Double Register Description A 16-bit register will be divided into two 8-bit ASCII characters. The information will be saved as a string instead of a number. The number will be in the range of 0 to instead of to If a curve is added to a trend, the trend data for that trend in the database will be cleared. It is advisable to always make a backup of the database before you alter the number of curves in a trend if there already exists data in the database. Delete Trend Curve To delete a trend curve, select it in the list and click the Delete button, or press Delete on the keyboard. The trend curve will be removed from the list. Note: The database table for the trend will be cleared. It is advisable to always make a backup of the database before you alter the number of curves in a trend if there already exists data in the database. It is not advisable to delete any curves, especially if the operator panel project has been imported into Beijer Electronics Data Collector. The trend is collected from the operator panel and the first curve defined in Beijer Electronics Data Collector will get the data from the first curve in the operator panel project. If not all curves are of interest, apply the filter in Beijer Electronics Viewer instead, to view the curves of interest. 29 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector 4.3 The Database Tab On the Database tab, settings concerning the database can be altered. Database settings Database Settings The Data connection can be of the following kinds: Data connection Description Access Used for Microsoft Access databases only. A Microsoft Access database is included with the installation. DSN (ODBC) Can only be used if a DSN have been configured in Windows Control Panel. Beijer Electronics Data Collector should be able to use any database with a DSN, even though it has only been tested with Microsoft Access, MSDE and Microsoft SQL Server. File DSN (ODBC) Can only be used if a File DSN have been configured in Windows Control Panel. Connection string A user-defined string to establish connection to the database. The setting for provider is only used when database connection is set to Access. The default setting Microsoft.Jet.OLDEB.4.0 could be used if using the default database. 30 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector The setting for Data source depends on the setting for Data connection: Data connection Microsoft Access database (with the default provider) DSN (ODBC) File DSN (ODBC) If login information is requested by the database, then enter user name and password in the fields called User and Password. To check the connection with the database, click the Test connection button Database Maintenance There are two methods for database maintenance: Data source The path and file name for the database file. Click the button to the right of the text field to browse for a file. The default database is a Microsoft Access database called betrend.mdb with the path: installation path \betrend.mdb. The name of a DSN as defined in the ODBC manager in Windows Control Panel. Click the button to the right of the text field to browse for a DSN. The path and filename of a file DSN as defined in the ODBC manager in Windows Control Panel. Click the button to the right of the text field to browse for a file DSN. Backup (for Microsoft Access only) Deletion of old records; both trend and alarm data will be affected. The setting for the backup operation is a backup directory where the backup copy of the Microsoft Access database should be stored. The database copy will have the current date as file name, e.g mdb. Click the browse button next to the field for backup directory to select a directory. Check Backup to enable the backup operation. The setting for the deletion operation is a numerical value. E.g. if the value is set to 1 day, then records older than 1 day will be deleted. (If the deletion operation runs at :30:00, records older than :00:00 will be deleted). If a Microsoft Access database is used, the database will be compacted when the deletion operation has finished. Check Delete records older than to enable the deletion function. It is possible to run the enabled functions manually by clicking the Manual button. If a backup file with the file name already exists, a warning will be displayed. The enabled functions can run automatically if Automatic is checked. The settings for automatic maintenance are a value for interval in days and a start date and time. Example: If the interval is set to 1 day and start date and time is set to :00:00, automatic maintenance will run once every day and the first time will be at :00:00. The program will update the start date and time when the maintenance is finished. If automatic backup is executing and a file with that name already exists, the file will be overwritten by the new file. 30 Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B

31 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector It is also possible to delete all tables and data in the database for a terminal. Click the button Delete terminals from the database to display a window with a list of all existing terminals in the database. If the terminal exists in the settings, it will not be deleted from the settings, but the program needs to be restarted before new data can be collected to that terminal. 4.4 The General Tab Additional settings are available on the General tab. 32 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector General Collection Interval and Settings The program automatically collects data from all enabled operator panels, with no collection interval of their own enabled, with the interval set up on this tab. First select the interval of the automatic collection. Days, Hours or Minutes can be selected. Then enter values for the fields Collect every and start date and time. Example: If the Collection interval is set to Days, the Collect every to 7, and start date and time is :00:00, the automatic collection will run once every week, starting at :00:00. The program will update the date and time value for next collection when the collection has been done. In the example the next date and time will be set to :00: Miscellaneous Parameter Number of decimals Remove Files Convert Download Description Number of decimals for the values when saved to the database. If checked the SKV/TXT/CSV files that has been collected from the operator panel will be deleted after the information is saved to the database. The SKV/TXT/CSV files are stored in a folder called _temp located in the folder where Beijer Electronics Data Collector was installed. If this is checked the function that stores the information in the database will be activated. If not, the SKV/TXT/CSV files will be downloaded, and saved in the _temp directory but nothing will be stored in the database. If this is checked the function that collects the SKV/TXT/ CSV files will be activated. 33 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector Recipe Collection Collect Recipes To ensure that the recipes in the collection directory are the same as the current ones in the operator panel, check Collect recipes. A folder with the operator panel name will be created in the specified collection directory, and the operator panel recipe structure will be created in this folder. This structure will be recreated every time a collection occurs. This means that only recipes existing in the operator panel at the collection time will be found in this directory. If a failure occurred while collecting the recipes from the operator panel, a file with the name ATTENTION COLLECTION FAILED will be created in the recipe structure to notify the user that the contents of the recipe structure is not identical to the operator panel. Note: The Collect recipes function is not to be considered as a backup of recipes. Backup Recipes To create a backup set of the recipes, check Backup recipes and specify a backup directory. This directory cannot be the same as the recipe collection directory (or a subdirectory to the recipe collection directory) since the collection directory is recreated when collection occurs. All recipes collected from the operator panel will be copied (overwritten) to this directory. This means that the latest version of a recipe in the operator panel is also kept in the PC. A file in this directory is never deleted, that is, a recipe can be deleted in the operator panel but can still be found in this directory if ever backed up once Post Processing Post processing allows the user to enter the path and file name of an application that is to be run when data for all operator panels are collected. This application will be started with the parameters entered in the With parameters field. Note that the application will be started after every collection; it is up to the application to stop running. Example: If the program name is C:\Program\MyApp.exe and the parameter is -myflag, Beijer Electronics Data Collector will make this call C:\Program\MyAppExe myflag. Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B 33

34 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector 4.5 Transfer Recipes The Transfer recipes function in the Tools menu allows manual transfer of recipes to/from the operator panel. Transfer recipes Select an operator panel from the list and click Connect. The left side of the window will show the recipe hierarchy in the connected operator panel. The right side shows the hierarchy in the computer. Deletion of recipes and creation of new directories is available functions on the operator panel side. At the PC side, creation of new folders is available. When connected, recipes can be sent to the PC (Receive >) or to the operator panel (< Send). Only files with the extension *.txt, *.csv and *.skv will be shown in the file lists, since recipes must have that extension in the operator panel. Only files with extension corresponding to the chosen FTP delimiter in settings can be sent to operator panel. Example: If TAB is used as FTP delimiter in the operator panel, only txt-files can be sent. Note: If the setting Enable directories in the configuration tool for the operator panel is checked, directories can be created on the operator panel side, but the root directory RECIPE cannot contain any recipes. If unchecked, recipes must reside in the root directory since creation of new folders is not allowed. 34 Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B

35 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector 4.6 Log File Beijer Electronics Data Collector will save messages about events and problems in a log file. Example of logged message :30:00: Error while downloading. Cannot connect to using User and Password parameters :30:05: The file C:\Program\Beijer\BEDataCollector\ _temp\trend_operator terminal2_bar could not be found :30:06: The file C:\Program\Beijer\BEDataCollector\ _temp\alarm_operator terminal2_funtion could not be found. Steps to take to solve the problem Check the settings, the IP-address, user name or password could be wrong. Check the settings, the trend name probably does not match the name in the operator panel. 36 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector 4.7 Collecting Data When all settings have been made it is possible to manually collect data from the operator panels. This command also runs automatically if set up on the General tab and applies to operator panels without individual collection interval enabled Manual Collection Manual collection makes it possible to collect data from all or specific operator panels instantly, disregarding their collection interval. When selecting Manual collection from the Tools menu, the following window will be displayed. Manual collection The user can select if all operator panels are to be collected or specify the operator panel(s) of interest. By clicking Collect now, the window will close and the collection will start Convert from files If the trend and alarm files have been copied from the terminal in some other way than via BEDataCollector, it is still possible to convert the data from the files to the database. Select the function Convert from files in the Tools menu. A window opens where it is possible to select an active terminal and a folder where the trend and alarm files are located. The names of the files should be the same as in the terminal, e.g- TREND1.SKV. The files will not be deleted after they are read. 36 Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B

37 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector 4.8 Compact Flash/USB Backup Folders Depending of the system software in the operator panel there are two formats for the backup folders created via the backup function (TBUP/TBS/TMB, for more information see the operator panel manual): Old Format: MMDDHHNN.SS - where MM is month, DD is day, HH is hour, NN is minute and SS is second. New Format: YYMMDDHH.xxx - where YY is year, MM is month, DD is day, HH is hour and xxx is a number between 000 and 999. Different Backup Approaches When Beijer Electronics Data Collector downloads from the backup, two different approaches are used: one if all folders have the old format, one if at least one folder has the new format. All Folders Have the Old Format If all folders have the old format, a list of already downloaded folders will be kept on the PC. At the next collection, only those folders that does not already exist in that list will be downloaded. This is because there is no way of telling the order of folders just by looking at the folder name. The folders are then ordered by looking into the trend file record dates. At the first collection when there is no list, no folders will be downloaded. This means that the function will start working from the second collection and forward. (To download all folders could possibly take several hours.) At Least One Folder Has the New Format If at least one folder has the new format, only the folders with the new format will be handled. It is possible to order the folders just by looking at the folder name. Only those folders with record dates newer than the newest in the database will be downloaded. Note: If the value for Max folders is set too high at the first download, the download may take several hours. When the trend data is entered into the database, first the backup trends will be entered, and then the data from current trend objects. Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B 37

38 Using Beijer Electronics Data Collector 4.9 Command Line Parameters The following parameters can be used on the command line: -Xnn Parameter -MULTIPLE Description The program will not start downloading until after nn seconds. This parameter can be used if the program is started at Windows startup to make sure all other services and networks have started up before a collection is made. If more than one instance of the program is installed, this parameter allows multiple programs to run at the same time. 38 Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B

39 Special Issues 5 Special Issues There are some settings in the operator panel that may affect the data collected by Beijer Electronics Data Collector. 5.1 Alarm Group Names and Multiple Languages When an operator panel project uses multiple languages, the alarm group name may vary in the supported languages; e.g. an alarm group can be named Alarms in English and Larm in Swedish. Alarm groups in the configuration tool for the operator panel When the alarms are read in the operator panel, the alarm group name used depends on the language set up in the operator panel at that time. Beijer Electronics Data Collector needs the alarm group name to find the alarms for that group and therefore there is something called an alias list. If all the names are in the alias list, the alarms will be found. Not only does the program find the alarms; the program will also use a default alarm group name when the alarms are saved in the database. In the example the name Alarms is the default name, since that name is set in the Alarm Groups list on the Terminals tab, and the name Larm is in the Alias List. Alias list There are two ways to handle alarm group names in operator panel project that uses multiple languages: Giving all alarm groups the same name in all languages in the operator panel. Making sure that the alias lists are set up to include all different alarm group names. Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B 39

40 Special Issues Note: If an alarm group name for one language is missing in the alias list and the operator panel is set to that language, the alarms for that group will not be found when collecting alarms. There is a rare situation when Beijer Electronics Data Collector will not find the right default alarm group name: Example: There are two languages, Language A and Language B. There are two alarm groups. In Language A the groups are named SILO and TANK. In Language B the groups are named TANK and CONTAINER. Since the name TANK is not unique; in Language A it is used for the second alarm group, and in Language B it is used for the first alarm group, Beijer Electronics Data Collector will not be able to convert it correctly. Note: Make sure to make all alarm group names unique. 40 Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B

41 Special Issues 5.2 Alarm Texts and Multiple Languages When an operator panel project uses multiple languages, the alarm text may vary in the supported languages, e.g. an alarm text may be Alarm high temperature in English and Larm hög temperatur in Swedish. Alarm texts in the configuration tool for the operator panel When the alarms are read from the operator panel, the alarm text depends on the language set in the operator panel at that time. Beijer Electronics Data Collector can convert the alarm texts to a default language before they are saved in the database, making the database independent on selected language in the operator panel. There is a table in settings with all the alarm texts where it is possible to select a default language. Beijer Electronics Data Collector can convert an alarm text if: The alarm text is included in the table. The alarm text has no dynamic information. (Dynamic information is analog numeric objects or digital text objects added to the alarm text definition in the operator panel.) If the program cannot convert an alarm text, the original alarm text will be saved in the database. Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B 41

42 Special Issues 5.3 Multiple Languages and Unicode Languages Even though Beijer Electronics Data Collector imports Unicode texts from an operator panel project with a Unicode language, it has not been tested so there are no guarantees it will work. 5.4 Trend Settings and Store Changed Samples There are two selections for Trend settings under Setup/Terminal Options in the configuration tool for the operator panel: Store Changed Samples Each curve in a trend has its own limited buffer to store values and when the buffer gets full, the oldest value will be dropped. The operator panel will check the values for each curve in a trend depending on the trend objects sample interval. Only the curves with changed value will save their value. If one curve in a trend changes value frequently and another does not, the following will happen when the trend data is collected: All existing records will be included, and the curve that does not change value so often will have older records than the frequently changing one. For such a record, the frequently changing curve will not have any stored value, and therefore its value will be reported as a blank value. When Beijer Electronics Data Collector collects the trend information, a blank value will be represented by a null value in the database. Beijer Electronics Viewer will plot a blank value as the value zero in the chart. If this is a problem, try to have curves in a trend that changes values at about the same frequency, or use Store all samples. Note: This setting is not recommended when having more than one curve in a trend, or the curve update frequencies are too different. Store All Samples All curve values will be logged when the trend data is logged in the operator panel; no values will be left blank. 42 Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B

43 Beijer Electronics Viewer 6 Beijer Electronics Viewer Beijer Electronics Viewer is used to view the alarms and trends that have been collected by Beijer Electronics Data Collector. Beijer Electronics Viewer can also view recipe files. To start Beijer Electronics Viewer, select the program from the Start menu. 6.1 The Main Window The main window has four menus: File, Show, Window and Help. The Main window The File menu contains the commands Settings and Exit. The command Exit shuts down Beijer Electronics Viewer. Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B 43

44 Beijer Electronics Viewer 6.2 Settings Beijer Electronics Viewer has its own settings for database. This is because Beijer Electronics Viewer can be installed in another directory or on another PC than Beijer Electronics Data Collector. It is also possible to view data from another database than selected in Beijer Electronics Data Collector, e.g. a backup database. Settings for Beijer Electronics Viewer Beijer Electronics Viewer can be run in two ways: Beijer Electronics Viewer is in the same directory as Beijer Electronics Data Collector. When Beijer Electronics Viewer is started, it will get the current settings for the database from Beijer Electronics Data Collector. The database settings can be changed in Beijer Electronics Viewer but those changes will only last until Beijer Electronics Viewer is stopped. Beijer Electronics Viewer is in another directory or on another PC. Beijer Electronics Viewer has its own settings for database. These settings can be saved and used again at next startup of Beijer Electronics Viewer. Changes made to database settings in Beijer Electronics Viewer will never affect the database settings for Beijer Electronics Data Collector. 45 Beijer Electronics Viewer 6.3 View Trend To view a trend, select Trend in the Show menu. The Trend viewer The window can display trends from all the operator panels. The following settings can be made: Setting Start date End date Show points Legend Tooltip Min/Max Decimals Filter curves Terminal Trend Customized trend configuration Description Start date and time for the interval. To change the date, either type the date in the field or click the button to the right of the date to pick the wanted date from a calendar. End date and time for the interval. Displays an X in the graph for all records in the trend. Information about each line in the trend will be displayed in the top right corner. The X and Y value will be shown if the mouse pointer is placed over a point in the trend area. Draw dotted lines for min and max values in the interval. The number of decimals used on the y-axis. Makes it possible to show/hide any curve in the trend. Select an operator panel to show trends for, or select All to show trends from all operator panels. Choose between the different trends that are available for the selected operator panel. The trend names have the format TREND_Panel1_TREND1, where Panel1 is the operator panel name and TREND1 is the trend name. Instead of showing curves from a selected panel and trend, it is also possible to show curves defined by a configuration. When all settings have been set, click the button Display to show the chart. If settings are changed, click Display again. It is possible to zoom in on a trend by clicking the left mouse button, holding it down and drawing a rectangle. This procedure can be repeated to get a more detailed view of the trend. Click Display to reset zoom. Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B 45

Note: An asterisk will be shown before a timestamp (see last timestamp in trend above) as an indication of that the actual timestamp is not part of the selected interval. This means that there might be data for the actual timestamp if the interval is expanded Customized Trend Configuration It is possible to add up to 16 different curves to a configuration. The curves can be from different trends and even different panels. Select panel name, trend name, and curve and then click Add to add that curve to the configuration. To remove a curve, first select that curve in the list and then click the Remove button. In the File menu there are functions for: Making a new configuration Open an existing configuration for editing Saving an edited configuration Saving a configuration with a new name Deleting a configuration Configurations will be saved to a file with the same name as the configuration in a folder TrendConfig. These files can be copied and reused on another computer. Since it is possible to select curves from different trends it is not always the case that the log interval is the same for all curves. If, for example, the configuration has two curves and one curve is missing a value at a time, the latest known value will be used for that curve. This means that it may seem as if the curve had a value when it in fact had not. However, every curve must have at least one value in the selected interval, otherwise the graph can not be shown. 46 Beijer Electronics, MAEN826B

47 Beijer Electronics Viewer 6.4 Alarm Viewer To view the alarms, select Alarm in the Show menu. Alarm Viewer The Status column can show the following values: Value * Active, not acknowledged $ Inactive, not acknowledged - Active, acknowledged <blank> Inactive, acknowledged Description The following settings can be made for the Alarm Viewer: Parameter Start date End date Descending Terminal Alarm group Description Start date and time for the interval. To change the date, either type the date in the field or click the button to the right of the date to pick the desired date from a calendar. End date and time for the interval. If the alarms should be presented in descending order. Select an operator panel to show alarms for. Select an alarm group to show the alarms for or select All to show all alarms for this operator panel. When all settings are made, click the button Display to view all the alarms from the selected interval. If settings are changed, click Display again. Use the Print button to print the alarm list. 49 Beijer Electronics Viewer 6.5 View Recipe To view the recipes, select Recipe in the Show menu and select the recipe file to open. Viewing recipes Each row in the table shows information about an I/O in the recipe. There are 6 columns in the table: Column Name Value Unit I/O Datatype Size/Index Description A name or description for the I/O. The value for the I/O A text for the unit The I/O The data type for the I/O, e.g. bit device, 16 bit register, string, array. This is used mostly when an I/O has the data type array or a string. Click Settings to select what columns to show in recipe windows. Selecting columns for display of recipes Click Print to print the information on a printer. Note that all six columns will be printed. The information in the columns Value, I/O, Data Type and Size/Index comes from the recipe file that is used in the operator panel. 50 Beijer Electronics Viewer When a recipe is opened for the first time the table will look like this: In this example the Name and Unit columns are empty. Click Allow Editing and enter any text for Name and Unit. This extra information will be saved in a file called Configuration.cfg in the same folder as the recipe. Each time a recipe is opened from this folder, the extra information for Name and Unit will be connected to the I/O and shown in the table, even if there are different kinds of recipes in the same folder. If a Name and/or Unit text is changed, the information must be saved using the Save configuration button. Beijer Electronics Viewer can change no other information. However by pressing Ctrl + N on the keyboard, Beijer Electronics Viewer will start up Notepad with the recipe file. Please note that if Notepad changes the recipe file, the information in the table is not updated automatically.
