3 1 Description Thank you for using the PHPro Advanced Translate module for Magento. With this module, you are able to search through all of the strings in Magento and translate them via a simple form in the backend. Using this method, you are also able to edit strings which have been poorly translated in the blink of an eye. This module makes it possible to translate a language without changing its.csv files. Via a user- friendly backend search form, you can easily find and replace/make your own translation. 1.1 Key Features: Search and edit all known and translated Magento text strings. Translate any untranslated string encapsulated by Magento s translate function. Keep an eye on the status of your translations. 2 Installation The module is easily available from the Magento Connect platform by using these keys: Connect 1.0 key: magento- community/phpro_advancedtranslate Connect 2.0 key: Please make sure to flush the cache, and renew the permissions. 4 3 General usage The advanced translate module works entirely from the backend. It is located under System > Advanced Translate. PHPro Advanced Translate Module

5 3.1 Translated & untranslated strings The first page in the module is the search page. PHPro Advanced Translate Module

6 This page allows you to search through all of the text strings in Magento, both translated and untranslated. This module uses Magento s native translation system to retrieve the translated strings from module theme and database levels. On top of that, we search our own table in the database for untranslated strings that have been picked up while browsing through the website. Simply enter the string you wish to search for and click Submit Search. There are a number of options to narrow and diversify the search results: Search original strings: This enables searching the original rather than the translated string. e.g.: Searching for My Account in original strings will return My account in English as well as Mon compte in French, rather than only My account in English. Only list untranslated: This option enables you to search in the untranslated string our module has picked up, without having all the translated strings clutter the result. Locale: You can narrow the search to only a specific locale. (Storeview are not supported at this moment.) Case sensitive: Take uppercase and lowercase in to account. Modules: Search in a specific module. Interface: Our module supports both Frontend and Adminhtml translation. This option allows you to search specifically for strings in either of them. Translating or editing the results is easy. Just click the edit - link, and you will be redirected to an edit form. (See 3.3 Translating strings) PHPro Advanced Translate Module

7 3.2 Untranslated strings The untranslated strings tab gives you an overview of all of the untranslated strings that our module has picked up. They are presented in a nice grid, which is searchable and filterable. As with the search form, the edit - link redirects you to the edit form, enabling you to translate the selected string. Our module looks for untranslated strings as pages are outputted (provided you have the logging enabled in the configuration, see 4. Configuration). Therefore, it is possible that you will not see all strings here as they may not have been seen yet on a page. PHPro Advanced Translate Module

8 3.3 Translating strings Clicking the edit - link in the search form or the untranslated strings grid redirects you to the above form. Here you are able to edit or translate the string. You are shown the original string, the current (or to be translated) string, and the locale in which you want to save it. Please keep in mind that HTML- tags and variable definitions such as % s and %d MUST be preserved to ensure a proper functioning of your website. PHPro Advanced Translate Module

9 3.4 Translation statistics In the translation statistics tab, you get an overview of the translation status of all the locales used in the stores of your Magento installation. Please be advised that this includes the frontend and adminhtml strings, and is calculated using the number of untranslated strings. As a result, 0 untranslated strings will give you a translation of 100%, which may not be true if there are no untranslated strings logged. Also, for performance reasons, this data is cached. If you want to refresh it, please flush (not refresh) the Magento cache. To flush the Magento cache, go to System > Cache Management in the backend and click the Flush Magento Cache button. 10 4 Configuration To be able to control the logging of untranslated strings, this module has a few configuration options, which can be found in System > Configuration > PHPro Advanced translate: With these options you can enable or disable the logging of untranslated strings, specify whether strings from frontend or adminhtml are logged (or both), and for which locales the strings are logged. The locales displayed are retrieved from the store views present in your Magento installation. We recommend disabling the logging in production due to performance reasons.
