Software Announcement September 26, 2006 IBM X.25 over TCP/IP for Communication lets you use X.25 in the CCL environment Overview IBM X.25 over TCP/IP for Communication Controller for Linux (IBM XOT) is a software product that operates in conjunction with the IBM Communication on System z (CCL). IBM XOT can enable an IBM System z server running Linux to run the IBM Network Control Program (NCP) and NCP Packet Switching Interface (NPSI) to communicate with other X.25-capable nodes, using the XOT protocol as described by RFC1613. IBM XOT can help you consolidate onto System z processors and helps you continue to run your X.25 network-based applications without requiring the IBM 3745/46 hardware. The IBM XOT product: Implements the XOT protocol as specified in RFC1613, including Switch Virtual Circuits (SVC) and Permanent Virtual Circuits (PVC) support. Supports Logical Channel Group Number (LCGN). This optional feature allows the calling LCGN to be maintained on the called side if a Logical Channel Number in the requested LCGN is available. This feature allows a minimum of configuration changes in NCP/NPSI definitions. Supports a maximum of 64 virtual adapters, each of which represents a virtual physical line. Supports up to 4,095 virtual circuits per virtual adapter (virtual physical line). Runs on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 for IBM System z9 and zseries mainframes. When combined with the use of an XOT-capable router or server, you can benefit by consolidating your X.25 traffic onto a TCP/IP infrastructure. This can help you reduce your network costs while you maintain your mission-critical X.25 support. You can find more information about IBM XOT and CCL at http://www.ibm.com/software/ network/xot http://www.ibm.com/software/ network/ccl Key prerequisites IBM Communication Controller for Linux on System z, V1.2, or later Planned availability dates October 23, 2006, electronic software delivery October 31, 2006, media and documentation At a glance IBM X.25 over TCP/IP for Communication Controller for Linux allows you to move your X.25 support from aging network hardware to the Linux on System z platform. The most commonly used designated measurement is a processor core. However, for select programs, there are other designated measurements such as users, client devices, and messages. The of Value Unit entitlements required for your specific implementation of the given program must be obtained from a conversion table associated with the program. You must obtain a proof of entitlement (POE) for the appropriate of Value Unit entitlements for your implementation. The Value Unit entitlements of a given program cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Unit entitlements of another program. Processor (Value Unit) A processor (commonly called a CPU or core ) is a functional unit within a computing device that interprets and executes instructions. A processor consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or more arithmetic or logic unit. With multicore technology, each core is considered a processor. Not all processors require the same of Value Unit entitlements. To determine the of Value Unit entitlements required, refer to the processor value unit conversion table on the Passport Advantage Web site http://www-142.ibm.com/software/sw-lotus/services/ cwepassport.nsf/wdocs/pvu_licensing_for_customers With full capacity licensing, a POE must be acquired for the appropriate of Value Units based on all activated processors on the server available to the program or a component of the program. Sub-capacity processor (Value Unit) In sub-capacity licensing, a POE must be acquired for the appropriate of Value Units based on all activated processors in partitions (utilizing eligible partitioning technologies) on the server available to the program or a component of the program.
