About MOTIF XF Extesio MOTIF XF Extesio (Extesio) is a set of program plug-is ad project templates developed by Yamaha to ehace the fuctios of Steiberg DAW software. Simply by istallig Extesio ad coectig the MOTIF XF6/7/8 to your computer via a IEEE1394 cable, you ca take advatage of various features which eable you to lik the Steiberg DAW such as Cubase with the MOTIF XF6/7/8. This maual covers situatios whe coectig the MOTIF XF6/7/8 to a computer to which Cubase series software ad Extesio have already bee istalled. Keep i mid that you will eed a USB storage device or you will eed to coect the MOTIF XF to a computer via ETHERNET whe usig the Sog Import feature. The optioal Firewire expasio board FW16E should be istalled to the MOTIF XF6/7/8 whe usig all of the features (except for Sog Import ) eabled by istallig Extesio. This maual assumes that the FW16E has bee already istalled to the MOTIF XF6/7/8. The required versio of Cubase differs depedig o the Extesio versio you are usig. Auto settig of Audio Driver Auto settigs of Remote Device Project templates with Iput/Output Bus settigs Sog Import from MOTIF XF6/7/8 Auto settig of Audio Driver With Extesio istalled, you ca set the Audio Driver of Cubase to the Yamaha Steiberg FW Driver by clickig [Yes] o the followig popup dialog box that appears whe startig Cubase. Auto settigs of Remote Device With MOTIF XF Extesio istalled, the MOTIF XF6/7/8 coected to a computer via a USB cable or a IEEE1394 cable will be registered as the Remote Device of Cubase. Also, the detailed settigs such as MIDI Ports will be set automatically. You ca cofirm these poits by selectig [Devices] [Device Setup] to call up the Device Setup dialog box. Set the AD Output of the MOTIF XF6/7/8 to FW13&14 by usig the MOTIF XF Editor VST or istrumet so that the setup of the Project Template is equivalet to the setup of the MOTIF XF6/7/8. Selectig a differet Project Template will overwrite the curret settigs of the Iput/Output buses. Sog import from MOTIF XF6/7/8 With MOTIF XF Extesio istalled, Sog data recorded to the tracks of the MOTIF XF6/7/8 ca be imported to a Project i Cubase o your computer. Keep i mid that audio data icluded i the sog as well as MIDI evets ca be imported while the Mixig setup caot be imported. 6 From the Import Optios dialog box, select the sog ad track(s) to be imported, the click [OK]. Follow the istructios below: 1 I the File mode of the MOTIF XF6/7/8, save all user data created o the MOTIF XF6/7/8 (with the File Type set to All ) to the USB storage device coected to the USB TO DEVICE coector. 2 Remove the USB storage device from the MOTIF XF6/ 7/8, ad the isert it to the USB coector of the computer. The file with the extesio.x3a will be saved to the USB storage device. If the MOTIF XF6/7/8 ad your computer are coected to the same Etheret etwork, you ca save the data (the file with the extesio.x3a ) to the hard disk drive of your computer. 3 O your computer, select [File] [Import] [MOTIF XF Sog...]. The Import MOTIF XF Sog dialog box appears. Select the sog to be imported from the pull-dow meu at the top of this dialog box, the select the specific tracks of the selected sog. If you wat to import the etire sog, click [Select All Tracks]. After selectig a sog ad tracks, click [OK] to execute the actual Import operatio. After completig the Import operatio, each track data of the selected sog will be imported to each track i the project file of Cubase. 4 From the Import MOTIF XF Sog dialog box, select the file saved i step 1 above, ad the click [Ope]. The Select directory dialog box appears. 5 From the Select directory dialog box, select the destiatio folder to which the project file of Cubase is to be saved, the click [OK]. How the MOTIF XF6/7/8 sog is to be imported About the imported file ad project Keep i mid that oly the All type (file extesio: X3A) ca be imported to a Cubase project. Make sure to set the FL1 ad FL2 to with sample before savig a All type file if the Waveforms used i the Sog data are stored i the Flash Memory Expasio Module (FL512M/FL1024M). If you do ot so, the souds of the Sog will ot be reproduced o the computer. The sample rate of the project created via the Sog Import will be set to 44.1 khz, meaig that the Sample Voice created o the MOTIF XF6/7/8 via a sample rate other tha 44.1 khz will ot play via the correct pitch i the Cubase project. If you wat to import a sog with a Sample Voice, make sure to set the sample rate to 44.1 khz before performig the Samplig operatio. About MIDI Tracks The MIDI tracks i the MOTIF XF6/7/8 sog will be imported to a project as MIDI tracks. Each track of the project will be assiged the same MIDI Trasmit Chael as that o the origial MOTIF XF6/7/8 sog. The track usig Voices that cotais User Waveforms obtaied i the Voice/Performace mode via the Samplig fuctio is imported as a MIDI track. I other words, the track which does ot use a Sample Voice will be imported as a MIDI track. The Mixig setup of the MOTIF XF6/7/8 sog will ot be imported, resultig that the Volume ad Pa of each MIDI track are set to Off whe the sog is imported. About Audio Tracks The Audio track (icludig the Program Chage which specifies the Sample Voice) i the MOTIF XF6/7/8 sog will be imported to a project as the Audio track. The Mixig setup will ot be imported, resultig that all the Volume values are set to 0 db, all the Pa values are set to C ad all the EQ shapes are reset to flat i the Audio track whe the sog is imported. Amog all the Samples comprisig a Waveform assiged to a Sample Voice used by the MOTIF XF6/7/8 sog, oly the Samples of the Key Bak icludig the ote umber recorded to the track will be imported to a Project whe the box of Import all Media Files is ot checked. If you wat to import all the Samples, check the box Import all Media Files. Others The Sog Import fuctio supports oly the data recorded to each track of the MOTIF XF6/7/8 sog. Note that the Mixig setup will ot be imported to a Cubase project. If you wat to apply the Mixig setup to the MOTIF XF6/7/8, use the MOTIF XF Editor VST withi Cubase. Start Studio Maager, followed by the MOTIF XF Editor VST withi Cubase. Next, ope the All type file (extesio: X3A), select the sog same as that selected whe executig the Sog Import, ad the execute the Syc fuctio. The Sog Import fuctio does ot support Patter data ad Arpeggio data. Sog data imported to a Project caot be exported back to the MOTIF XF6/7/8. MOTIF XF Extesio Ower s Maual 5
Troubleshootig Caot cotrol Cubase from the MOTIF XF6/7/8 pael Make sure that the MOTIF XF6/7/8 is properly coected to the computer via a USB cable or a IEEE1394 cable. Make sure that the proper driver has bee istalled. Cofirm the versio of Cubase istalled to your computer. The required versio of Cubase differs depedig o the Extesio versio you are usig. For details about system requiremets for the Extesio, refer to the followig website or the release ote icluded with the Extesio you are usig. http://www.yamahasyth.com/dowloads/ Cofirm whether or ot Yamaha MOTIF XF is registered as a Remote Device ad MOTIF XF6/7/8 Remote / Yamaha MOTIF XF6/7/8-2 / Yamaha MOTIF XF6/7/8 Port2 has bee selected as the MIDI I/Out Port from the Device Setup widow called via [Devices] [Device Setup]. Caot fid the Project Templates Cofirm whether or ot the Recordig tab is selected o the Project Assistat of Cubase. Cofirm whether or ot Extesio has bee istalled properly. The Project Template files will be istalled to the followig path. Widows: C:\Program Files\Commo Files\Steiberg\Project Templates Mac: /Library/Applicatio Support/Steiberg/Project Templates Caot import a MOTIF XF6/7/8 sog Make sure to use Cubase of versio 5.1.1 or higher. If you caot select a sog from the Import Optios dialog box or you fid the imported sog does ot have ay data, the file of All type may be saved without storig the recorded sog o the MOTIF XF6/7/8.
