Software Announcement October 10, 2006 IBM System i Web Enablement made easy Overview Web Enablement for i5/os (5722-WE2) Web Enablement is enhanced to include Express Runtime Web Environments, which can significantly reduce the time necessary to set up your Web serving environment on i5/os. This feature can reduce the time to install software products and fixes and, in many cases, eliminate the need to acquire them individually. It also automatically configures the Web environment for your immediate use. i5/os (5722-SS1) iseries Navigator Tasks on the Web V5R4 supports the use of a Web application server integrated with i5/os. You can simply configure iseries Navigator Tasks on the Web without having to install or configure a Web application server (such as WebSphere Application Server or ASF Tomcat). You have immediate browser-based access to i5/os resources with reduced administration costs and reduced system resources. The i5/os operating system includes Web browser-based administration of your Web serving environment using the TCP/IP port 2001 of your System i5. Enhancements include: Advice on how to improve your Web server s performance. The Web browser-based interface quickly guides you through a simplified view of the many i5/os and Web server configuration options that you can change to improve performance. Support for monitoring the performance usage of your Web transactions across the various jobs running on your i5/os system. Web-based applications run multiple i5/os jobs such as the HTTP server job. Collections Services, a component of i5/os, is enhanced to collect performance data for WebSphere Application Server V6.0. iseries Access Family (5722-XW1) iseries Access for Web V5R4 supports the use of a Web application server integrated with i5/os. With this integrated Web application server, you can simply configure iseries Access for Web without having to install or configure a Web application server (such as WebSphere Application Server). Description Web Enablement for i5/os (5722-WE2) A new Web Enablement feature, Express Runtime Web Environments for i5/os, is now available for easy installation of Web serving on i5/os. It is offered on CD and DVD media through new supply feature numbers. You can use Express Runtime Web Environments to quickly install and configure most Web serving environments on i5/os. Use it for setting up WebSphere Application Server Express V6.0 for running your own J2EE and Web Services applications. The configured Web environment also includes iseries Access for Web V5R4, which is installed, configured, and running in WebSphere Application Server Express V6.0 with minimal input from the i5/os administrator. An example RPG program is also provided and configured to show you how to use technologies and products such as WebSphere Development Studio Client, WebFacing, and WebFacing Deployment Tool with HATS Technology. The Web browser-based interface quickly guides you through a simplified view of the many i5/os and Web server configuration options that you can change to improve performance. Documentation includes explanations and recommendations of the configuration parameters and their settings. You can easily restore changed settings while you try different configurations for performance improvements. Use this support as an additional tool for improving your Web serving needs for HTTP, WebSphere Application Server, and portal and collaboration servers. Support for a simplified method of configuring SSL for use with the Web server administration. A new wizard is added to the Web server administration to configure SSL between a Web browser and Web server administration. Support for monitoring the performance usage of your Web transactions across the various jobs running on your i5/os system. Web-based applications use multiple i5/os jobs, such as the HTTP server job, WebSphere Application Server job, and DB2 server and ILE applications. The Web server administration supplies more information about these jobs, including CPU utilization to allow you to locate performance problems when running Web applications. These enhancements require PTF SF99114 to be installed. Planned availability is November 17, 2006. Collections Services, a component of i5/os, is enhanced to collect performance data for WebSphere Application Server V6.0. Collection Services collects performance data at specific time intervals, providing a snapshot of activity during the time interval. Data can be exported to a database. New database files support the WebSphere Application Server performance data. Refer to the iseries Information Center for information on the new database files and steps for configuring the data collection. System i5 Software Maintenance (SWMA) Renewal Update In July 2005, per processor SWMA for i5/os and selected products was introduced on POWER5 System i hardware. Beginning October 10, 2006, customers with Power 5 hardware who choose to renew SWMA for i5/os and selected products must maintain current SWMA coverage for the total quantity of processors licensed to i5/os on the machine. If there has been a lapse in i5/os SWMA coverage for a quantity of processors, at the next renewal date for i5/os SWMA on the machine, SWMA coverage needs to be acquired for all processors licensed to i5/os on the machine.
