Getting Strted with the 1 vcloud Director Tennt Portl When you log into the tennt portl, there re number of tsks you cn complete, from creting virtul mchines nd vapps, to setting up dvnced networking configurtion nd running vrelize Orchestrtor workflows. Before you cn ccess your orgniztion, vcloud Director system dministrtor must crete the orgniztion, ssign it resources, nd provide the URL to ccess the tennt portl. Ech orgniztion includes one or more orgniztion dministrtors, who finish setting up the orgniztion by dding members nd setting policies nd preferences. After the orgniztion is set up, non-dministrtor users cn log in to crete, use, nd mnge virtul mchines nd vapps. Orgniztions An orgniztion is unit of dministrtion for collection of users, groups, nd computing resources. Users uthenticte t the orgniztion level, supplying credentils estblished by n orgniztion dministrtor when the user ws creted or imported. System dministrtors crete nd provision orgniztions, while orgniztion dministrtors mnge orgniztion users, groups, nd ctlogs. VMwre, Inc. 8
Users nd Groups An orgniztion cn contin n rbitrry number of users nd groups. Users cn be creted loclly by the orgniztion dministrtor or imported from directory service such s LDAP or vsphere Single Sign-On. Groups must be imported from the directory service. Permissions within n orgniztion re controlled through the ssignment of rights nd roles to users nd groups. Virtul Dtcenters An orgniztion virtul dtcenter provides resources to n orgniztion. Virtul dtcenters provide n environment where virtul systems cn be stored, deployed, nd operted. They lso provide storge for virtul CD nd DVD medi. An orgniztion cn hve multiple virtul dtcenters. Orgniztion Virtul Dtcenter Networks An orgniztion virtul dtcenter network is contined within vcloud Director orgniztion virtul dtcenter nd is vilble to ll the vapps in the orgniztion. An orgniztion virtul dtcenter network llows vapps within n orgniztion to communicte with ech other. An orgniztion virtul dtcenter network cn be connected to n externl network or isolted nd internl to the orgniztion. Only system dministrtors cn crete orgniztion virtul dtcenter networks, but orgniztion dministrtors cn mnge orgniztion virtul dtcenter networks, including the network services they provide. vapp Networks A vapp network is contined within vapp nd llows virtul mchines in the vapp to communicte with ech other. You cn connect vapp network to n orgniztion virtul dtcenter network to llow the vapp to communicte with other vapps in the orgniztion nd outside of the orgniztion, if the orgniztion virtul dtcenter network is connected to n externl network. Ctlogs Orgniztions use ctlogs to store vapp templtes nd medi files. The members of n orgniztion tht hve ccess to ctlog cn use the ctlog's vapp templtes nd medi files to crete their own vapps. Orgniztions dministrtors cn copy items from public ctlogs to their orgniztion ctlog. Log In to the vcloud Director Tennt Portl You cn ccess the vcloud Director Tennt Portl by using URL tht is specific to your orgniztion. Contct your orgniztion dministrtor if you do not know the Tennt Portl orgniztion URL. See the vcloud Director Relese Notes for informtion bout supported browsers nd configurtions. 1 In browser, type the Tennt Portl URL of your orgniztion nd press Enter. 2 Enter your user nme nd pssword nd click Log In. vcloud Director Tennt Portl Roles nd Rights vcloud Director includes preconfigured set of user roles nd their rights. The roles tht re ble to ccess the vcloud Director Tennt Porl re the roles creted by defult in ny orgniztion or other roles tht re creted by the orgniztion dministrtor. Users who re ssigned the following orgniztion roles cn ccess the Tennt Portl. The items they see nd the ctions they cn perform depend on the rights tht re ssocited with prticulr role. Using the vcloud Director Tennt Portl When you log in to the vcloud Director Tennt Portl, you re nvigted to the Virtul Dtcenters dshbord screen. The Virtul Dtcenters dshbord screen is prt of the vcloud Director multisite feture tht mkes it possible for tennts to see their geogrphiclly-distributed cloud environment s single entity. For more informtion bout multisite, see Chpter 9 Working with Multiple Sites. The dshbord is unified view of the vcloud Director orgniztion virtul dtcenters nd sites for single orgniztion. Note Depending on their rights, tennt users cn see ll member sites of n orgniztion or only subset of sites. The virtul dtcenters disply in crd view. Ech crd contins informtion bout the number of vapps, the totl number of virtul mchines nd the number of virtul mchines tht re in running stte. The crd lso shows the vilble CPU, memory, nd storge cpcity for the dtcenter nd displys reltime metrics bout the current lloctions nd reservtions of resources. From the min menu ( ), you cn nvigte to the different menu options. Menu Option Dtcenters Content Librries Nvigtes you to the Virtul Dtcenters screen tht displys the virtul dtcenters within the orgniztion. Nvigtes you to consolidted view for vapp templtes, ctlogs, medi, nd other types of files. You use these templtes nd files to deploy virtul mchines or vapps. VMwre, Inc. 10
Menu Option Administrtion Opertions Nvigtes you to the multisite mngement screen where orgniztion dministrtors cn crete trust ssocition with nother orgniztion. Nvigtes you to the Service Librry screen. The Service Librry contins groups of vcloud Director components, for which you cn run vrelize Orchestrtor workflows. Accessing Multiple Sites The vcloud Director multisite feture enbles service provider or other institutionl owner of multiple, geogrphiclly-distributed vcloud Director instlltions (server groups) to mnge nd monitor those instlltions nd their orgniztions s single entities. If your environment is configured to ccess multiple sites, you cn ccess the sites from your tennt portl environment. Verify tht the tennt portl is configured to ccess multiple sites. For more informtion bout creting multiple site environment, see Chpter 9 Working with Multiple Sites. 1 From the upper-right menu in the tennt portl, click the multisite icon ( ). Avilble sites disply. 2 Select the site you wnt to ccess. You now hve ccess to the selected site. To return to the previous site, repet the steps, selecting the site you wnt to view. View Tsks From the tennt portl, you cn view recent tsks nd their sttus. The tsks view is good wy to view the sttus of tsks in your tennt portl t glnce. The view shows when the tsks were executed, nd whether they were successful. This tool cn be good first step for troubleshooting ny issues in your environment. The blue nd red infotips over the Tsks icon show the number of run nd filed tsks, respectively. u From the upper-right menu, select the Tsks icon ( ). The tennt portl llows you to open the web console in order to esily ccess these fetures. Fetures vilble only in the vcloud Director Web Console include: Affinity Rules. You cn crete nd mnge ffinity rules from the vcloud Director Web Console. User nd Role Mngement is only vilble in the vcloud Director Web Console. 1 On the Virtul Dtcenters Dshbord screen, click the crd of the virtul dtcenter you wnt to explore. 2 On either the vapps or the Virtul Mchines tb, click See this pge in the vcloud Director Web Console. Virtul mchines cn be stndlone, or they cn exist within vapp. A vapp is compound object composed of one or more virtul mchines s well s one or more networks. The following figure shows the different options when creting virtul mchine. You cn crete stndlone virtul mchine. In this cse, the virtul mchine is directly connected the orgniztion virtul dtcenter. Or, you cn crete virtul mchine within vapp. By creting virtul mchine inside of vapp, you cn group together multiple virtul mchines nd their ssocited networks. vapps llow you to build complex pplictions, nd sve them to ctlog for future use. View nd Edit Virtul Mchines You cn view virtul mchines tht re stndlone or prt of vapp. You cn view virtul mchines in grid view or in crd view. The virtul mchines must hve been creted by the Administrtor. 1 Choose whether you wnt to view virtul mchines in vapps or stndlone VMs. In the Look in field, select All VMs, Stndlone VMs, or VMs in vapps. The subset of virtul mchines displys in crd view. 2 Choose whether you wnt to view virtul mchines in vapps or stndlone VMs. In the Look in field, select All VMs, Stndlone VMs, or VMs in vapps. The subset of virtul mchines displys in crd view. 3 Select to view the list in grid view ( ) or crd view ( ). The list of virtul mchines displys in grid or s list of crds. 4 (Optionl) Configure the grid view to contin elements you wnt to see. From the grid view, select the grid editor icon ( virtul mchines. ). The grid editor icon displys below the list of b c Select the elements you wnt to include in the grid view by clicking the checkbox next to the element, such s hrdwre, version, etc. Click OK when you re stisfied. The grid displys the elements you selected for ech virtul mchine. 5 (Optionl) From the grid view, use the list br ( ) to disply the ctions you cn tke for ech virtul mchine; for exmple, you cn shut down virtul mchine. Crete New Stndlone Virtul Mchine You cn crete new stndlone virtul mchine. 1 On the Virtul Dtcenters dshbord screen, click the crd of the virtul dtcenter you wnt to explore. The list of virtul mchines displys in grid view. 2 Choose whether you wnt to view virtul mchines in vapps or stndlone VMs. In the Look in field, select All VMs, Stndlone VMs, or VMs in vapps. The subset of virtul mchines displys in crd view. 3 Click Crete VM. 4 Enter the following vlues. Option Nme Virtul Dtcenter Type Power on Enter nme for the virtul mchine. Select the virtul dtcenter to ssocite with the virtul mchine. Enter meningful description. Select New or From Templte. If you select From Templte, you cn select templte for given operting system from the Ctlog. If you select New, you cn configure custom settings. The VM utomticlly powers up once it is creted. 5 If you chose to crete the virtul mchine from templte, select the pproprite templte from the Templtes ctlog. Suspend Virtul Mchine Suspending virtul mchine preserves its current stte by writing the memory to disk. The suspend nd resume feture is useful when you wnt to sve the current stte of your virtul mchine nd continue work lter from the sme stte. A virtul mchine tht is powered on. 1 On the Virtul Dtcenters dshbord screen, click the crd of the virtul dtcenter you wnt to explore. The list of virtul mchines displys in grid view. VMwre, Inc. 16
2 Choose whether you wnt to view virtul mchines in vapps or stndlone VMs. In the Look in field, select All VMs, Stndlone VMs, or VMs in vapps. The subset of virtul mchines displys in crd view. 3 Select the virtul mchine you wnt to suspend. 4 From the Power menu, select Suspend. The virtul mchine is suspended, but its stte is preserved. Shut Down Guest Operting System Powering off guest operting system is the equivlent of powering off physicl mchine. The guest operting system is powered on. 1 On the Virtul Dtcenters dshbord screen, click the crd of the virtul dtcenter you wnt to explore. The list of virtul mchines displys in grid view. 2 Choose whether you wnt to view virtul mchines in vapps or stndlone VMs. In the Look in field, select All VMs, Stndlone VMs, or VMs in vapps. The subset of virtul mchines displys in crd view. 3 Select the virtul mchine where you wnt to shut down the guest OS. 4 From the Power menu, select Shut Down Guest OS. The guest OS is shut down. Power Off Virtul Mchine Powering off virtul mchine is the equivlent of powering off physicl mchine. Resetting virtul mchine is the equivlent of pushing the reset button on physicl mchine. It initites hrd reset of the operting system without chnging the power stte of the virtul mchine. Your vapp is strted nd virtul mchine is powered on. 1 On the Virtul Dtcenters dshbord screen, click the crd of the virtul dtcenter you wnt to explore. For exmple, before you upgrde the virtul mchine you crete snpshot to preserve the point in time before the upgrde. If there re no issues during the upgrde, you cn choose to remove the snpshot, which will commit the chnges you mde during the upgrde. However, if you encountered n issue, you cn revert the snpshot, which will move bck to your sved virtul mchine stte prior to the upgrde.
