digitalstrom Fnction and Intended Use 1 Fnction and Intended Use With the digitalstrom-server IP "dss-ip" yo integrate IP-devices in yor home sch as mltiroom systems from Sonos, Philips He lights or the Smarter ikettle 2.0 into a totally new world of intelligent home control the digitalstrom world. Devices are interconnected in the simplest way and can be operated conveniently via digitalstrom Smartphone apps or by voice. The digitalstrom orchestration enables the simple interaction of IP devices and informs yo e.g. by the blinking of lights, voice otpt or by a psh message on yor smartphone, when another device has finished its task. The IP devices connected in the network are detected by the dss-ip and integrated as a digitalstrom device. As a reslt, the devices receive the typical properties of a digitalstrom device and switch off atomatically, sch as when leaving the hose. This standard behavior and mch more can be configred easily via a web interface, the digitalstrom Configrator (Setp). This enables yo to define rooms that match yor rooms at home. In these rooms, for example, yo can now set presets for light or adio. The devices in the respective room respond to the corresponding preset in the way reqested by yo and execte an operation. And thanks to "User Defined Actions" available to yo on the server as an app, yo can allow light and adio to perform a common action. 1.1 Setting p, Calling p and Operating Yo can already control IP devices (e.g. Sonos, Philips He, Smart ikettle etc.) individally sing the appropriate manfactrer apps. With yor dss-ip not only do yo control these IP devices, bt yo interconnect them intelligently in the rooms and call p predefined presets, actions or ser defined actions in rooms. And later yo can even eqip bots with ds device. Below are the most important terms for the configration and setting of yor dss-ip: Rooms All yor IP devices have to be assigned to a room. To create presets and ser defined actions easily, yo can create "rooms" sing the dss-ip, which correspond to the rooms in yor home. Yo then assign yor IP devices to these rooms and can ths control them intelligently and easily. Choose clear, nderstandable names for the rooms so that they can also be controlled sing the voice control. Yo can find ot how to create a room here: Detecting IP Devices Presets With the dss-ip yo set p the light and adio presets and ths predefine yor preferred settings on yor IP devices per preset. Presets are room-dependent and are called p room-related. All devices in a room can be inclded for a preset. Fnction and Intended Use digitalstrom Actions (for devices) In the case of hosehold appliances, sch as the "Smarter ikettle 2.0", operations to be carried ot are called "Actions". Actions are device-dependent and are called p on the device. Yo can call p these actions directly later or yo can set and call p an action for a linked action from preset and device by means of a "ser-defined action". Yor IP devices can execte actions that are sbdivided into "standard actions" and "cstom actions". Standard actions are fnctions performed from the device, which are available to every ser. Cstom actions are individally adjstable parameters of the ser for the device. Example based on the device "Smarter ikettle 2.0" Standard action: Cstom action: Boil p Boil p water for Black tea set parameter: For action "Boil p water for my Black tea" only boil p the water to 80 C with a warm-keeping time of 30 mintes User Defined Actions The dss-ip allows yo to create extensive "ser defined actions", which the previosly configred presets and actions call p (spanning all rooms and devices) on the IP devices in the corresponding rooms. Example of a ser defined action: Name of the ser defined action: Breakfast consisting of: Preset "Cook" Preset "Dining Action "Black tea" = Light goes on in the kitchen = Light goes on in the dining room = Kettle goes on (heats p) Preset "SWR3" = Adio, radio station goes on in the dining room Yo can find ot how to create a ser defined action here: Creating User Defined Actions Feedbacks By the intelligent linking of the IP devices in yor home the dss-ip is also able to give feedbacks to presets or actions that are called p. Ths, for example, Sonos can give a voice feedback and the Philips He lights blink in the kitchen when the water for yor tea is ready. digitalstrom Fnction and Intended Use digitalstrom Server Apps in the ds Configrator The digitalstrom server apps extend the fnctionality of the dss-ip with practical applications. The apps are preinstalled on the digitalstrom Configrator and can be configred directly there. They allow the adjstment of the following fnctions. Timers Presence Simlation User Defined Actions Event Responder Psh Messenger User Defined States Yo can find frther information and sefl tips nder "Help" in the relevant app in the help bar at the bottom of the screen. ds device bots As the owner of a dss-ip yo will also have access to the "digitalstrom device bots" in the ftre. The ds device bots are available in the digitalstrom system as additional services and can be booked easily. Installation digitalstrom 2.2 dss-ip Setp Open the digitalstrom Configrator in the Internet browser via https://dssip.local dssip_local ð When logging on, a certificate secrity prompt appears. This will have a slightly different appearance depending on the browser. The local web server on the dss- IP has a self-developed certificate for technical reasons, which is why this mst be confirmed/approved manally. Depending on the browser, confirm the secrity certificate (contine). digitalstrom Installation Extending View Click on Advanced View. Advanced view Updating System The digitalstrom system is continally being extended and improved. To ensre that yo benefit from new fnctions and bg fixes, pdate yor system reglarly. Select in the men System > System Update Check for new pdates. Select Update System. ð The pdates are installed. This may take a few mintes. The web interface mst be reloaded. Confirm with OK. ð The Configrator is restarted. System pdate dss-ip_manal 9 / 27
Installation digitalstrom Creating new password Before yo can se the my.digitalstrom accont, yo have to create a new password. Make sre that yo se a secre password (lower/pper case letters, nmbers and special characters). Create a new password in the men System > Password. Confirm the new password with Apply. Changing password Set p location To ensre that the snrise and snset can be sed when sing the timers, the server reqires the location of yor home. In the men System > System Settings enter yor Location. Installing ds Apps Before yo can integrate IP devices (e.g. Philips He, Sonos, Smarter ikettle, ) or additional fnctions (e.g. Psh Messenger, ), yo need the digitalstrom server apps. In the men Apps > Install select the desired apps and install these. Updating ds Apps If yo have already installed ds Apps, yo mst pdate these together with a system pdate in order to always benefit from the latest advantages. In the men Apps > Update select Check for new pdates. If an pdate is available, select Update Selected or Update All. ð The pdates will be exected and yor apps will be p-to-date again. 10 / 27 dss-ip_manal
digitalstrom Installation Activating Remote Access To ensre that yo can also access yor home from otside, create a my.digitalstrom accont and connect it to the digitalstrom Server. This remote access is also necessary in order to access the settings of certain IP devices (sch as the ikettle). Open the app my.digitalstrom in the ds Configrator. my.digitalstrom app If yo do not yet have a free my.digitalstrom accont, register here via https://www.digitalstrom.com/index.php?cl=register. Connect yor dss-ip to the accont. ð Yo can now log in to yor smartphone apps with this accont and se the services everywhere. dss-ip_manal 11 / 27
Setp digitalstrom 3 Setp Once yo have installed all components, yor home is ready for nmeros fnctions of the intelligent control with digitalstrom in jst a few steps. We will show yo how to do this with the simple example of the ser defined action "Breakfast". The IP-devices Philips He, Sonos and Smarter ikettle are integrated in this action. This will also work with individal or other IP devices, however. Reqirements Yor Philips He lights are configred sing the smartphone app He from Philips. Yor Sonos system is flly configred sing the smartphone or PC app Sonos, and play lists as well as favorites are created. Yor Smarter ikettle is connected to yor home network via the smartphone app Smarter (from version ikettle 2.0). Example: Yo have three Philips He lights and one Smarter ikettle installed in the kitchen. In the dining room, one Philips He light and one Sonos speaker is installed. When having breakfast, yo want the light in the kitchen to appear with the lighting preset "Cook" and the light in the dining room to appear with the lighting preset "Dine". The Smarter ikettle shold heat the water for "Black tea" and the Sonos speaker in the dining room shold play the radio station "SWR3" simltaneosly. digitalstrom Setp 3.1 Detecting IP Devices Setting p Philips He This App integrates the Philips He Bridge and all He lights into yor digitalstrom system. The lights are available as devices in the rooms and can be configred conveniently sing the digitalstrom Configrator or smartphone apps. Connecting Philips He Install the server app He Controller (Installing ds Apps). He Controller Open the He Controller app in the ds Configrator. Select Connect He Bridge. ð The He Bridge is connected to digitalstrom and the existing lights are detected atomatically. Assigning Philips He Lights to the Rooms Open the ds Configrator. In the Rooms tab select the room created by Philips He. Give the room a name (in or example: "Kitchen"). In the Rooms tab select create new room. Give the room a niqe name, e.g. "Dining room" and confirm it with OK. Yo can now drag the individal IP devices into the rooms by drag-and-drop, e.g. the dining room light into the "dining room". ð The Philips He lights are now assigned to the rooms. dss-ip_manal 13 / 27
Setp digitalstrom Sonos Setp This app enables Sonos speakers to respond to any digitalstrom activities. Yo can either save adio presets in the room with yor favorites or any activities can be sed as a trigger. A crrent title or the crrent list can be sed or any favorites and playlists can be selected. Additionally, signal tones can be selected from a library. Texts can be converted directly into speech and played back if necessary sing the "Voice otpt" fnction. Frthermore, the msic can be stopped, started or mted via commands. Sonos Connection Install the server app Sonos Controller (Installing ds Apps). Sonos Controller Open the Sonos Controller app in the ds Configrator. In the Sonos Speaker tab select Atomatically discover Sonos speakers. ð The existing Sonos speakers are detected and listed atomatically. Assigning Sonos Speakers to the Rooms In the Sonos Speaker tab select the desired Sonos speaker. Select Assign room and assign the desired speaker to the room. Confirm yor entry with Save. ð The Sonos speakers are now assigned to the rooms. Tips: The Sonos speakers are not visible in the ds Configrator. Yo can, however, call p adio presets for rooms. If the Sonos speaker is in a room that has not yet been created, yo can create a new room dring the selection (Create new room: Room name). 14 / 27 dss-ip_manal
digitalstrom Setp Smarter ikettle Setp This app enables the integration of the Smarter ikettle 2.0 into yor digitalstrom system. In the device settings the behavior can be set and own actions can be created. The device settings can only opened with an active Internet connection. Smarter ikettle Connection Install the server app Smarter Controller (Installing ds Apps). Smarter Controller Open the Smarter Controller app in the ds Configrator. Select Search for devices. ð The Smarter ikettle is now connected to digitalstrom and stored in the ds Configrator nder its own room. Assigning Smarter ikettle to a Room Open the ds Configrator. In the Rooms tab select the room Room #nnnn created by Smarter. ð The Smarter ikettle is displayed. Yo can drag the ikettle into a room by drag-and-drop, e.g. Kitchen. ð The ikettle is now assigned to the room Kitchen. Delete the room #nnnn that is no longer sed. dss-ip_manal 15 / 27
Setp digitalstrom 3.2 Presets Setp With the dss-ip yo can set p lighting presets and adio presets and ths predefine yor preferred settings for the IP devices. Presets are room dependent and are called p room-related. In order to control hosehold appliances, sch as the Smarter ikettle, no presets are set p in the room, bt actions are set p directly on the device instead. Yo can call p these presets and actions later directly or yo can link them together for an action and then call them p. Example: When having breakfast, yo want the light in the kitchen to appear with the preset "Cook" and the light in the dining room to appear with the preset "Dine". At the same time, the Sonos speaker in the dining room SWR3 shold place yor favorites and the Smarter ikettle shold heat the water for Black tea. digitalstrom Setp Setting Up Lighting Presets for Philips He Lights Open the ds Configrator Select a room in the Activity tab. Open the men item Light. Select one of the predefined presets (1, 2, 3, 4). ð The available lights are displayed on the devices window. With the right mose btton yo can rename, the preset (e.g. Dine). Select a light and set the desired color. Repeat the color setting for all lights in the room. Confirm yor preset with Save. ð Yo have now set p the preset Dine that yo can se later. ð Proceed in the same way to set p the preset Cook in the kitchen. Tip: Yo can also set p the lighting presets on yor smartphone/tablet sing the digitalstrom (ios) / ds Home Control (Android) app (nder Configration > Activities). Setting p Adio Presets for Sonos Open the Sonos Controller in the ds Configrator. Sonos Controller In the Presets tab select New Preset. In the Trigger tab select the desired room and preset, which starts the msic. (to do this yo can select one of the existing presets (2, 3, 4, )) In the What will be played tab select the msic yo desire (e.g. SWR3) from yor playlist or favorites. ð The name of the msic from yor playlist or favorites will be sed atomatically as the preset name. Yo can optionally set the volme. Otherwise, the volme last sed will be applied. Confirm yor preset with Save. ð Yo have now set p the preset SWR3 that yo can se later. dss-ip_manal 17 / 27
Setp digitalstrom Actions for Smarter ikettle Setp Open the Smarter Controller in the ds Configrator. Smarter Controller Select Open Device Settings Page. Select Cstom Actions. Create a new action sing (+). Name the action (e.g. Black tea) and set the desired vales. Confirm yor action with Save changes. ð Yo have now created the action Black tea that yo can se later. Tips: Alternatively, yo can create a "bot". Yo will find information on this via the link Start the bot here in the Device settings. digitalstrom Setp 3.3 Creating User Defined Actions This digitalstrom app defines the actal actions that can be easily exected via other server apps or via a smartphone app. These actions can be composed of only one activity or several different activities. Make sre that yo select a meaningfl name so that it can also be nderstood for voice controls e.g. "I want to have breakfast". Example: When yo have breakfast, the light shold switch on in the kitchen with the preset Cook and in the dining room with the preset Dine, the ikettle shold heat p the water for Black tea and the msic SWR3 shold be played from yor favorites. Create the following ser defined action: Breakfast Kitchen Dining room Cook = + Dine Breakfast Black tea SWR3 Open the User Defined Actions app in the ds Configrator. Setp digitalstrom Adding Lighting Preset In the initiated activities tab select Activity in room > Dining room > Light. Select the predefined preset e.g. Dine. ð Proceed in the same way to add the preset "Cook" in the kitchen. Adding Adio Preset Select New activity. In the Initiated activities tab select Activity in room > Dining room > Adio. Select the predefined preset e.g. SWR3. Adding ikettle Action Select New activity. In the initiated activities tab select Single device > Kitchen > ikettle. Select the predefined action e.g. Black tea. Saving User Defined Actions Confirm the new action with Save. ð Yo have created the ser defined action Breakfast and yo can now call this p. Tips: Yo can test the new action immediately sing Test action. The ds apps inclde an integrated Help (at the bottom in the app) for spport. digitalstrom Setp 3.4 Creating Feedbacks By the intelligent linking of the IP devices in yor home the dss-ip is also able to give feedbacks to actions or presets that are called p. Ths, for example, Sonos can give a voice feedback and the Philips He lights blink in the kitchen when the water for yor tea is ready. Example: Yo are preparing water for tea with the Smarter ikettle and yo want to know when it is ready. The Sonos speaker in the kitchen shold say: "Yor tea is ready" and the Philips He lights in the kitchen shold blink. Yor tea is ready Blinking Yor tea is ready Creating Feedbacks with the Sonos Controller Open the Sonos Controller in the ds Configrator. Sonos Controller In the Activities tab create New Activity. In thetrigger tab Event on Device > Kitchen > ikettle > Events select one or more (Ctrl/Cmd) events. In the What To Play tab select the Text to Speech. Now write the desired voice otpt (Yor tea is ready) in the otpt window. Here, yo can also perform the desired settings (langage, voice,...). In the Where To Play tab select the room or rooms where the voice otpt shold be played. Confirm yor activity with Save. ð Yo will now receive the created feedback the next time yo prepare water for tea. dss-ip_manal 21 / 27
Setp digitalstrom Creating Feedbacks with Event Responder Event Responder Open the Event Responder app in the ds Configrator. Select New Responder. In thetrigger tab Device Actions > Kitchen > ikettle > Events select one or more (Ctrl/Cmd) events. In the Initiated Activities tab select Activity in room > Kitchen room > Light Blinking. Enter the activity a name (e.g. Tea is ready). Confirm yor activity with Save. ð Yo will now receive the created feedback the next time yo prepare water for tea. 22 / 27 dss-ip_manal
digitalstrom Setp Creating Feedbacks with Psh Messenger Reqirements Yo are connected to my.digitalstrom. The ds Dashboard app is connected to my.digitalstrom. Install the Psh Messenger app (Installing ds Apps). Psh Messenger Open the Psh Messenger app in the ds Configrator. Select New Message. Give the message a niqe name. In the Trigger tab select activity or an event, on which yo want to trigger a message. In the Message tab enter the Message that shold be sent to one or more smartphones. Confirm yor message property with Save. ð Yo will now receive the created feedback the next time yo trigger this activity or event. Tip: Yo can also se these ds server apps with the same procedre: Event Mailer (for this prpose yo mst have previosly set p a valid email address and the relevant mail server name nder System > E-Mail Settings ) Event Twitterer dss-ip_manal 23 / 27
Operation digitalstrom 4 Operation 4.1 Voice Control with Amazon Echo If yo have installed Amazon Echo, yo can now dispatch voice commands directly to Alexa. The Amazon Echo Skill is available in English and German. Find ot more abot Amazon Echo: Prodct Info Amazon Echo 4.2 Voice Control with Smartphone App: ds Listener Note: ds Listener is available in German only. Therefore, the described commands are written in German. This app enables yo to control yor digitalstrom system simply by speaking. It recognizes spoken commands sch as "Ich will frühstücken" / "Schalte das Licht im Esszimmer ein" / Schalte das Licht in der Küche für fünf Minten ein" etc. After the system has recognized the command, the ser gets a confirmation and the desired fnction is exected. Open the ds Listener app on yor smartphone/tablet. Give clearly nderstandable German voice commands sch as "Ich will frühstücken" or "Schalte das Licht im Esszimmer ein". ð The ds Listener now exectes yor commands. 4.3 Smartphone App: ds Dashboard Create yor favorites here so that the ser defined action sch as "Breakfast" can be started directly from yor ds dashboard app. Open the ds Dashboard app on yor smartphone/tablet. Select Settings. Select Add User Defined Action. ð All available actions will be displayed. In or example the action Breakfast as set p previosly. Select the desired action, e.g. Breakfast. ð Yo can now make the settings for the action (e.g. add images from the library or yor own photos). Confirm the settings with Save. ð The new action now appears on the start screen and can be called p with jst one click. Tips: Under Add Activity yo can also set p presets in rooms or set p actions on devices as favorites. digitalstrom Operation 4.4 Smartphone App: digitalstrom / ds Home Control This app allows yo to call p all known actions, presets and ser defined actions sch as creating and setting new actions, presets and ser defined actions. Open the digitalstrom (ios) / ds Home Control (Android) app on yor smartphone/ tablet. Select a room, in which yo want to call p a preset or action, e.g. Kitchen. Select the desired preset, e.g. Cook. ð The selected preset is now exected. Tip: In this app via the settings ( the bottom of the screen. ) yo can also create favorites that yo can select directly at dss-ip_manal 25 / 27
The Concept of ds Device Bots digitalstrom 5 The Concept of ds Device Bots ds device bot What is a "digitalstrom device bot"? Imagine a helpfl, intelligent and invisible "btler" who knows and answers yor reqests. He knows how to adjst and operate the devices in yor hosehold so that everything meets yor individal needs. Yor btler is in dialog with yo, he learns more and more every day and can even acqire knowledge from the Internet. Each bot is a specialist and is only responsible for one device. And with his services in the backgrond he also ensres that yo enjoy more comfort and safety at home with digitalstrom. The ds device bots are based on the decentralized cover of digitalstrom, since these already give yor electrical devices basic intelligence so that they know how they are integrated in the network and which tasks they shold flfill in the hosehold. The ds device bots enhance and optimize this intelligence even more: The devices learn how to carry ot their particlar fnctions better and better and tailored to yor individal needs. How do I install and se a ds device bot? The ds device bots are available as additional services in yor digitalstrom installation and can be booked easily. Yo commnicate directly with the bot by app or voice command and convey yor reqests to it. It then carries ot yor reqests on the device that it is responsible for and continally learns more abot yor needs at the same time. What skills do devices obtain from device bots? The ds device bots can: access cognitive services in order to attain more knowledge, access information in the hose so that they can know where light is on or off, for example, learn atonomosly, adapt to individal sitations in the hose and enter into a dialog with the ser in order to know and implement their preferences and reqests better. 26 / 27 dss-ip_manal
