Whether it is architecture and plant construction, reverse engineering and quality control or historical preservation and forensics 3D documentation by means of laser scanners offers significant advantages compared with any conventional measuring method. This is because a laser scanner records approximately one million measuring points per second and produces a precise, three-dimensional image of its surroundings. With suitable plug-ins this image can be directly imported into a wide range of software applications. With the Focus 3D, FARO now offers a revolutionary new laser scanner that can be very simply and intuitively operated using its touchscreen. Furthermore, it is significantly more compact and more cost-effective than previous models. The Focus 3D thus offers everything you might expect from a professional 3D laser scanner with a previously unknown level of simplicity. Revolutionary simple Due to its intuitive control concept with touchscreen display, the Focus 3D is as easy to operate as a digital camera. The device is also entirely self-contained in operation, so neither additional devices nor cables nor a laptop are needed. Efficient The long range of up to 120m, the level sensor, the compactness and ease of use and the auto-registration at no extra cost result in up to 50% savings of scan and processing time compared to conventional laser scanners. Precise and fast The Focus 3D creates a precise, virtual copy of reality in millimetre-accuracy at a blazing speed of up to 976,000 measurement points per second. Distance The scanner uses a laser beam which is reflected back to the scanner by an object. The distance is measured in millimetreaccuracy by the phaseshift between the sending and receiving beam. Vertical angle The mirror deflects the laser beam in vertical direction onto the same object. The angle is encoded simultaneously with the distance measurement. Horizontal angle 2 Product and component documentation The laser scanner revolves 360 horizontally. The horizontal angle is encoded simultaneously with the distance measurement. Objects within a distance of up to 120m are recorded.
