2 Reflection: Light bouncing off of an object and entering our eye.

4 You can use light rays and the laws of reflection to show how a plane mirror produces a virtual image and where it is located.

5 Normal - the perpendicular line to the mirror surface Incident Ray - the original incoming ray Angle of Incidence - the angle between the incident ray and the normal Reflected Ray - the ray that bounces off a reflective surface

6 The Laws of Reflection 1. The Angle of Incidence equals the Angle of Reflection 2. The incident rays, the reflected ray and the normal all lie in the same plane

7 Specular reflection - reflection of light off a smooth surface Diffuse reflection - reflection of light off an irregular or dull surface

29 Types of Images Real image an image that is formed when reflected rays meet can be seen on a screen due to light rays arriving at the image location (e.g., movie screen)

30 Types of Images Virtual image an image formed by rays that appear to be coming from a certain position, but are not actually coming from this position imagined cannot form a visible projection on screen (e.g., plane mirror)
