1 Objectives: How to create a library of Simulink model(s-fun) to hide source code. How to incorporate an s-fun library in RT-LAB. Versions RT-LAB QNX MATLAB 2008a Important: You will need to use Telnet on your host computer as well as have access to your QNX target to transfer files through ftp. You will also need the.go file 1. Model Preparation: generate s-function and create RT-LAB model. Take the model you wish to turn into an s-function library and create a subsystem. Make sure the sfun runs by itself offline. If there are tunable parameters that need to be initialized do so in order to get the model to run. Right click on the subsystem> Real Time Workshop> Generate S-function. If there are tunable parameters, you may need to load/initialize some values in InitFcn in Model Parameters. This will open a new window with your subsystem in a s-function format. Now open rtdemo1.mdl from C:\OPAL-RT\RT-LAB8.x.x\Examples\Basic\rtdemo1\Simulink, and save it under another name, in a new directory. Drop your s-function subsystem in the sm_master subsystem of the renamed rtdemo1 model, you do not need connect it to anything. Save and run to make sure it works offline. You now have a RT-LAB compatible model with your s-function. 2. Compilation on the Target.

2 Open RT-LAB Metacontroller.exe and RT-LAB MainControl. In Model Selection>Open Model, select your model with the s-function. In another window, open the model directory and move the following files to another folder(you will need them later on) : rt_nonfininite.c and rt_nonfinite.h in the complexmodel_sfcn_rtw. Now go in RT-LAB MainControl > Utilities > Configuration > Advanced > Files & Commands

3 Click Add and add all of the.c and.h files from the complexmodel_sfcn_rtw folder. (do not add the.c and.h from the model directory, also the rt_nonfinite files should not be there) If the rtw folder contains a _data.c file, you must go into the RT-LAB MainControl > Utilities > Configuration > Advanced > Compilation options and add them under Local Settings> User source files (you might have to uncheck Use global settings to un-gray the area) If you have not properly configured your real-time target and set the development node, do so now. Once all the proper files are set to transfer and your target set you are ready to compile in the MainControl select Compile>ok.

4 If your compilation is successful this is a good sign 3. Creating a Library Transferring and Accessing necessary files on the Target (ftp, Telnet) Open an explorer window and type in ftp://ntuser:ntuser@xxx.xxx.x.xxx (the IP address of your target) Create a folder on the target (name whatever you would like) and drag and drop the following files: o.h and.c source files from the rtw folder o rt_nonfinite.c, rt_nonfinite.h o script go_0-.txt Now Open a telnet session (Start> telnet xxx.xxx.x.xxx, you may need to go and activate this feature on your operating system) and type the following commands o (Login password)= root o #cd /home/ntuser/(name of your folder) o #chmod 777 go_0-.txt o #textto l go_0-.txt o./go_0-.txt v7.6 (name you want to give the library).a

5 **** Warning v7.6 refers to the Matlab version the library is created in (change accordingly). The library is Matlab dependant, but can be used by any RT-LAB version. Once that is complete you transfer the.a file to your host computer.

6 For someone to be able to use this library, follow the steps below. It is recommended to make a fresh folder and drag and drop the necessary files. They will need: o Model with sfunction o The MEXw32 file o The a file o The rtw folder containing.h files and.mk file(you can remove the.c and the rest) 4. Editing the rtlab.tmf file In order for RT-LAB to ignore the S-function C source code you must edit the rt-lab.tmf file The rtlab.tmf file is located at: C:\Opal-rt\RT-LABx.x.x\simulink\rtw\c\common Using a text editor, go at the end of the Source Files section. The last lines should look like (RT-LAB 8.3.x): SFS_TMP270 = $(SFS_TMP266:sfun_conversion.c=) SFS_TMP271 = $(SFS_TMP270:sfun_elements_demux.c=) SFS_TMP272 = $(SFS_TMP271:sfun_blob_decimation.c=) S_FUNC_SRCS = $(SFS_TMP272:optaketime.c=) You need to add a line for each Sfunction (either C or RTW Sfunction; modifications/add-on are in red): SFS_TMP270 = $(SFS_TMP266:sfun_conversion.c=) SFS_TMP271 = $(SFS_TMP270:sfun_elements_demux.c=) SFS_TMP272 = $(SFS_TMP271:sfun_blob_decimation.c=) SFS_TMP273 = $(SFS_TMP272:complexmodel_sf.c=) S_FUNC_SRCS = $(SFS_TMP273:optaketime.c=) Where complexmodel_sf.c is the name of the original C code source file which was used to create the s- function, not the.a file. (see the _rtw folder from the s-function creation) Note: This modification of the.tmf will make RT-LAB ignore the.c file, so if you want to re-generate code which uses that C code you will need to re-modify this file. Otherwise, you will get an undefined reference error during compilation. 5. Compiling the model without the C source files The directory must contain the following: o Model with s-function o The MEXw32 file o The a file

7 o The rtw folder containing.h files and.mk file(you can remove the.c and the rest) Make sure the model plays offline in Configuration\Advanced\Files & Commands, transfer in ascii mode all header files (h files and.mk file) of the s-function in Configuration\Advanced\Files & Commands, transfer in binary mode the a file of the s- function Right click on compile and uncheck the steps Compile generated code and Retrieve files from target and lauch the compilation.(this is to get the necessary files on the target) Once this is done, go into Configuration\Advanced\Compilation options, and select the a file on the target in the option Use external library Right click on compile and check only the last two steps. If you want to avoid to compile in two steps (for example if you want to use your library in several models) do the following o Create a directory on your target as you did in step 3, or use this directory containing the library o Select the library in this folder in the compilation options \Use external library; this way you can compile directly. 6. Running the compiled model Your model has now been compiled. You can load and execute to check its accuracy.
