3 WatchBot Overview WatchBot Camera provides peace of mind to both home and business users; the camera allows you to remotely view, monitor and protect what s important to you, even if you are thousands of miles away. Simple plug and play technology means you can be up and running in less than 5 minutes. Connecting wirelessly to your existing network, WatchBot can be placed anywhere in your home or business environment. Set up the camera and you can use your smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop to view live footage of the WatchBot s surroundings. The camera also allows for two-way audio communication and can be remotely moved left, right, up and down. Use WatchBot to monitor live video of the camera s surroundings - or have WatchBot act as an alarm, notifying you when unauthorised movement has been detected. With its night vision capabilities, you have total peace of mind, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The camera has an intelligent motion sensor; if triggered it will send an alert to your smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop with screenshots as well as recording footage to its on-board Micro SD card (not included), or any connected computers - so you immediately know exactly what s happening - and you can have footage for use as evidence, if required. WatchBot allows for up to 64 cameras to be monitored simultaneously; view multiple locations around your home or business premises - or any number of places in the world where you place a camera. i

6 Quick Set Up Guide - Mobile Devices 1. Using the power adaptor supplied, plug one end to the power connection of the WatchBot and the other end into an electrical socket. 2. Connect your WatchBot camera directly to your router using the supplied Ethernet cable. 3. Download the official WatchBot app for Android and iphone here: Or scan the QR code below 4. Open the app and tap Add New Camera. 5. Click Scan QR Code 6. Scan the QR barcode on the base of the camera. 7. Access and control your WatchBot camera. It is highly recommended that a password is set as soon as possible iv

Open the WatchBot application and click Preferences at the top of the screen. 5. Click Camera List at the bottom left of the screen and click Add. 6. Input the username, password and camera ID details located on the base of the camera and then click OK. It is highly recommended that a password is set as soon as possible 7. Click Camera at the top left of the screen. *Note: Linked cameras will be listed at the bottom of the screen. 8. Select the camera you wish to view and then click and drag it on to the main window. 9. You can now view and control your WatchBot from your connected device. v

8 Quick Set Up Guide - Wireless Set up (Desktop) This section assumes that you have successfully set up your WatchBot and you are viewing the camera through the software. To configure your WatchBot to work wirelessly, you must ensure: i. The WatchBot is connected to the router with an Ethernet cable; ii. The WatchBot is linked to the desktop application. 1. Open the desktop application and double click on the camera in the bottom left corner to open the camera s settings. 2. Click WiFi on the left hand menu. 3. Click Scan. 4. Select your WiFi network from the list of available WiFi networks displayed on the right hand side. 5. Input your WiFi password. 6. Click Save and Apply. The WatchBot will take approximately 2 minutes to reboot. 7. Once restarted, disconnect the power and Ethernet cables from the back of the WatchBot. 8. Reconnect the power cable only. The camera will reboot again before establishing a connection to the WiFi network. Please allow up to 5 minutes for the WatchBot to connect. 9. You can now view and control your WatchBot from your connected device. vi

12 Introduction and Safety System Requirements A PC is recommended for the initial set up of the WatchBot camera. Once the WatchBot is configured, it can be used without being connected to a computer. Network Requirements for Optimum Performance Wireless router. Network connection: Mbps Ethernet. Broadband Internet connection. PC Requirements Processor: Intel Pentium III, 800MHz or higher (Pentium IV, 2GHz or higher recommended) Operating system: Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8. Memory (RAM): 256Mb or higher Restrictions DO NOT use this product for privacy violation. It is illegal and WatchBot is not designed for this purpose. DO NOT use this product for any illegal activities. It is the user s responsibility that the usage of this product is of a legal nature only. It is your responsibility to ensure that no personal rights of third parties are infringed. 1

13 Maintenance and Protection Refrain from opening the WatchBot housing to avoid damage and risk of electric shock. Only use the original power adapter. Use of unauthorised power adapters can damage the WatchBot. Touching the WatchBot lens will leave fingerprints and may cause image blurring. Do not expose the WatchBot and its components to liquid; this may cause the camera s hardware to short circuit and become a fire hazard. 2

15 1 WatchBot Desktop Set up 1. 1 The WatchBot Camera This user guide has been developed to help you set up your WatchBot and configure all its features. Additional information and video tutorials are available on the WatchBot support website at: WatchBot Software Installation Go to to download the latest version of the WatchBot software for your device. After the software has downloaded, follow the on-screen instructions to install the software Connecting WatchBot Components 1. Take the WatchBot out of the box and remove all packaging. 2. Plug the power adaptor into the WatchBot before plugging it into an electrical socket. 3. Connect your WatchBot to your network router using the supplied Ethernet cable. 4

16 1. 4 Connecting WatchBot With your WatchBot attached to your router and the software ready, follow the steps below to connect your WatchBot with the software. 1. Open the WatchBot program. You will be presented with the following screen. 5

17 1.4.1 Connecting WatchBot on the Same Network This section should be followed if your computer is connected to the same network as your WatchBot. If you are connecting to your Watch- Bot remotely, (over the internet) please go to section Click Preferences at the top of the screen and select Camera List. This will open a new window. 6

18 2. Click Open Search Tools to open the WatchBot search window. 3. Click Search to locate your WatchBot. The software will scan your network for all connected WatchBot cameras. 7

19 4. Double click on the WatchBot you want to connect to and click OK. The Device ID (DID) of the WatchBot is located on the base of the camera. 5. Close the camera list window and return to the camera tab at the top of the screen. It is highly recommended that your set a password on your WatchBot as soon as possible. 8

20 Connecting the WatchBot Over the Internet *Note: You do not need to complete this section if you have already connected the software to WatchBot when on the same network. 1. Open the WatchBot application and click Preferences at the top of the screen. 2. Click Camera List at the bottom left of the screen and click Add. 3. Input the username, password and camera ID located on the base of the WatchBot (beginning with WBT) and then click OK. 9

21 *Note: If you are setting up more than one camera repeat steps 2 and 3 It is highly recommended that a password is set as soon as possible 4. Click Camera at the top left of the screen. *Note: Linked cameras will be listed at the bottom of the screen. 5. Select the camera you wish to view and then click and drag it on to the main window. 10

22 1.5 WiFi Configuration This section assumes that you have successfully set up the Watch- Bot and you are viewing the camera through the software. To enable the WatchBot to work wirelessly, you must ensure the WatchBot is connected to the router with the Ethernet cable and linked to the desktop application. 1. Using the desktop application, double click on the camera you wish to access at the bottom left of the application. 2. Click WiFi on the left hand menu. 3. Click Scan. 4. Select your WiFi network from the list of available WiFi networks displayed on the right hand side. 5. Input your WiFi password. 11

23 6. Click Save and Apply. The WatchBot will then reboot, allow 2 minutes for the WatchBot to reboot. 7. Once the WatchBot has restarted, disconnect the power and Ethernet cables from the back of the camera. 8. Reconnect the power cable only. The camera will reboot again. 9. The WatchBot will now establish a connection to the WiFi network. Please allow up to 5 minutes for the WatchBot to connect. 10. You can now view and control your WatchBot from your connected device. 12

24 2.0 Setting Passwords You can set 3 different usernames and passwords for each WatchBot granting different levels of access: Administrator: Full access to camera control and settings Operator: Full access to camera control Visitor: Access to camera without control Once you have updated your username and password click Save and Apply. Your camera will reboot. You now need to update the WatchBot settings with the new username and password. Select the Preferences tab and click Camera List. This will open a new window, select the WatchBot and click Modify. Update the password information and click OK. 13

25 3.0 Operator Controls Controls for WatchBot can be accessed on the left hand side of the window. 3.1 Directional Controls The directional controls allow you to pan and tilt the WatchBot, moving it left, right, up and down. Click on the directional arrow buttons to move the WatchBot in that direction. Click reset view to centre the camera. The device will perform a full vertical and horizontal patrol, before recentring its position. 14

26 3.2 WatchBot Patrol The camera has the ability to monitor a given area, using its patrol feature; click the horizontal or vertical patrol buttons, and the camera will rotate horizontally or vertically. Click the patrol button for a second time and the function will be paused. 3.3 External Alarm Switch The WatchBot can be used to trigger an external alarm system when motion is detected. You can use the alarm button to enable or disable this feature. 3.4 Infrared/Night Vision This switch indicates whether the camera s Infrared/night vision system is active or inactive. If the red lights are lit, the facility is on. If the red lights are not lit, the Infrared facility is off. This facility enables your WatchBot to monitor during the night. 3.5 Mirroring the Image If required, the video image on the camera can be mirrored horizontally and vertically. This is useful when the WatchBot is installed on the ceiling; the footage can be corrected if needed. 15

27 3.6 On-Screen Display (OSD) Clicking on the OSD button will display the WatchBot name and time and date on the video feed. 3.7 Saving Presets WatchBot can save up to 3 preset viewpoints. Simply position the camera at the desired position and click the save the preset button. Click on the target button to go to each preset location. 3.8 Audio & Video Features All connected cameras have individual video controls located to the upper right of the video feed. These controls allow you to: Turn on the microphone of the camera to hear the surroundings. Talk through a microphone, which is broadcast through the WatchBot s built in speaker or externally attached speaker. Recording the video feed as an.avi file onto your PC Take a snapshot of the live feed and save it to your PC. 16

28 4 Advanced Settings 4.1 Motion Detection The WatchBot s built in motion sensor can be configured to several responses when triggered by movement. It can record a video to your PC; take snapshots of the area for 30 seconds and then send the images to up to 4 different addresses. To set the WatchBot to trigger alerts when motion is detected, select Alarm from the left hand menu and tick Motion Detect Armed. The sensitivity of the sensor can be adjusted to the environment (1 highest sensitivity - 10 lowest sensitivity). If you want an image to be sent to you when motion is detected via , tick Send alarm Notification by . (you will need to set up your mail settings - see 4.2) 17

29 Tick Scheduler to set the time periods you want the motion detection alarm to be active. The schedule is divided into 7 days with each hour divided into 15 minute intervals. Select the times you wish for motion detection to be active. Once all settings have been completed, click Save and Apply. 18

30 4.2 Alerts To enable the WatchBot camera to send images via when motion alerts are triggered, you are required to configure your provider details. This can be found by navigating to in the left hand menu. Sender: Your address. SMTP Server: Select your provider from the drop down menu. This will auto-complete the server and port sections. If your provider is not listed, your settings can be manually entered into the fields. Need Authentication: This will need to be ticked. This will then open 2 more options. SMTP User: Your address. SMTP Password: The password used to access your account. Recipient: You can set up to 4 people to receive notifications when unauthorised motion is detected. Once all information has been completed click Save and Apply. 19

31 4.3 Pan and Tilt Pan and Tilt controls the directional movement of the camera; you can edit these settings by selecting Pan and Tilt from the menu on the left. 1. Override Preset Settings: Disables any saved position presets when active. 2. Call Preset on Boot: When the WatchBot reboots, it will re-centre to a predefined position. 3. Pan and Tilt Speed: Adjusts the turning speed of the camera between three preset speeds: slow, medium, fast. 20

32 4.4 DDNS The WatchBot can be configured to work with a DDNS server. A DDNS address can be used as an alternative way to access your WatchBot from another location via a web browser. You can input the details of the DDNS server and access your WatchBot via the DDNS server address. 21

33 4.5 SD Record Scheme The WatchBot camera supports a micro-sd card memory slot. This allows you to record when motion is detected and store videos locally on the device. A micro SD card must be inserted into the SD card slot on the back of the camera for this function to work. Select SD Record Scheme from the left hand menu and click Format to set up the micro-sd card to work with the WatchBot camera. Warning: This will erase all data that is present on the micro-sd card. Tick Record Coverage to set the WatchBot to record automatically when motion is detected. Specify how long you want the camera to record on to the micro- SD Card once motion is detected. 5 minutes of video uses approximately 20MB Tick Timer Recording to set the WatchBot to record on to the SD card at specific times of the day. Select the times on the days you want to record and click Save and Apply. 22

34 5 The WatchBot App The WatchBot App is currently available as a free and premium version for both Android and iphone. You can download the latest version of the app at: Please note: To record live pictures and video footage on the mobile app, you will need the premium WatchBot Pro version of the software. 5.1 Adding a New Camera Launch the app and click Add New Camera. 35 You are able to give your WatchBot a name so you can easily identify it. Android ios There are three ways you are able to connect the app to your WatchBot. 1. Manually enter the WatchBot camera ID. 2. Scan the QR barcode on the base of the WatchBot. 3. Search the local network for the WatchBot. 24

36 1. Manually enter the WatchBot camera ID. Enter the ID, username and password of your WatchBot located on the base of the camera. 2. Scan QR Code. The Scan QR Code function requires a barcode reader to be installed on your device (available for free fom the Android or iphone store). Click Scan QR Code and scan the QR barcode on the base of the WatchBot. This will automatically populate the required information of the WatchBot. You will still be required to enter the username and password. 3. Search. If your mobile device is connected to the same network as your WatchBot, this option will scan the local network for any connected cameras and input the required details automatically. You will still be required to enter the username and password. Click Done. Your WatchBot is now configured to work with the app. Simply select your camera from the app homepage to view it immediately. Repeat the process to add more cameras. 25

37 5.2 Viewing the WatchBot To view your WatchBot, tap camera located at the bottom left of your screen. Tap on the image of the camera you wish to view. Android ios You will now be viewing a live feed of your WatchBot. 26

38 The green arrows on the edges of the screen can be used to move the camera up, down, left and right. To use all of WatchBot s features, just tap once on the live video stream. You will then be able to see all the controls that you can use to operate your camera remotely. 1. Exit live video. 2. Mirror image horizontally. 3. Mirror image vertically. 4. External alarm on/off. 5. Patrol WatchBot left and right. 6. Patrol WatchBot up and down. 7. Portrait/landscape view 8. Turn WatchBot speaker on/off. (hold down microphone to speak) 9. 40 5.2.1 Viewing Multiple WatchBots You are able to view up to four WatchBots at the same time. Tap the multi-screen icon in the top left of the main screen. Tap the WatchBots you want to view from the list on the right of the screen. Tap >> to hide the sidebar. Tap and hold on the image to either remove the WatchBot from the multi-screen or view it in full screen. 29

41 5.3 Camera Settings To configure your WatchBot s settings, navigate to your main screen and tap on the icon to the right of the camera. Android You are then presented with the WatchBot settings. ios Android ios 30

42 5.3.1 WiFi Settings Tap on WiFi from the WatchBot camera settings. Select the WiFi network you want to connect to. Android ios Enter your WiFi password and confirm (please note passwords are case sensitive). 31

44 5.3.3 Time Settings Tap on Time Settings from the WatchBot camera settings to update the time settings. You have three options to set the WatchBot s time. 1. By time zone - tap on the Time Zone button and choose your time zone from the list provided. 2. By NTP - tick/turn on Use NTP to automatically set the time according to the NTP server selected. 3. Sync with device time - to synchronise the WatchBot s time with your device: Android - tap Synchronise with device. ios - slide Sync with local time to the On position. Android ios 33

45 5.3.4 Alarm Settings To set the WatchBot to trigger alerts when motion is detected, select Alarm from the WatchBot camera settings. To turn on the alarm, tick/turn on Motion Detect. The sensitivity of the sensor can be adjusted to the environment. If the WatchBot is connected to an external alarm system, use the alarm input to enable or disable this feature. If you want an image to be sent to you when motion is detected via , tick/turn on . To record to the on-board micro-sd card when motion is detected, tick/turn on Alarm Record. Android ios 34

48 6 Attaching the Wall Bracket Hold the wall bracket against the surface of the selected place of installation and, using a pencil, mark two holes on the surface through the holes in the bracket. Drill the holes for the dowels, and attach the bracket using the screws provided. Locate the brass coloured screw hole in the centre of the base of the WatchBot, and position it over the wall bracket attachment. Gently rotate your WatchBot on to the bracket until firmly attached. Finally, angle your WatchBot into your desired position. 37

49 Troubleshooting Visit the WatchBot Support Page at: I have forgotten the administrator username and/or password... To reset the administrator username and password, press and hold down the RESET button on the camera base for 5 seconds. Release, and the username and password will be reset back to the factory default administrator username and password. Default administrator username: admin. Default administrator password: no password. My video image appears jerky or freezes temporarily and controls are sluggish... You may be experiencing problems with network bandwidth. The image frame rate is subject to the following factors: 1. Network bandwidth: if many devices are using the network at the same time, connectivity can become slow. 2. PC performance, network environment and display preference settings (brightness, theme, position of router, etc). 3. Number of visitors (too many visitors will slow down the image frame rate). 4. Choice of switch or hub. 38

50 I am unable to locate the WatchBot when I scan my network... If you are having difficulty locating your WatchBot on your network, follow the steps in section Connecting the WatchBot over the Internet. My WatchBot won t work when I remove the Ethernet cable... Check that you have set up the correct WiFi details on the WatchBot. See section 1.5 WiFi set up, ensure that your wireless password has been entered correctly (passwords are case sensitive). Once the settings have been applied, wait for the WatchBot to fully reboot before disconnecting from the power and Ethernet cables. What is the maximum WiFi range? The maximum WiFi range will depend on your router. Typically the camera can operate approximately 10 metres from the router. Unknown or unresolvable issues... To restore the WatchBot to its default factory settings, press the RESET button on the camera base for 5 seconds, then try to reconnect. Note: You will lose all saved settings. 39

51 Glossary Common technical terms used throughout this manual. Router A router is the device that allows you to connect to the internet through a phone or cable socket. Items such as computers, tablets and the WatchBot camera connect to the router through an Ethernet cable or WiFi. DDNS Dynamic Domain Name Server. A service that maps Internet domain names to IP (Internet Protocol) addresses. DDNS allows anyone hosting a web or FTP server to advertise a public name to prospective users. LAN Local Area Network. A computer network that interconnects computers in a limited area such as a home, school, or office building. SMTP Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. An Internet standard for the transmission of across Internet Protocol (IP) networks. WiFi A mechanism for wirelessly connecting electronic devices. A device enabled with WiFi, such as a personal computer, smartphone, tablet, digital audio player or video game console, can connect to the Internet via a wireless network access point. Ethernet The wire used to connect a device (computer/watchbot) to a router to provide internet connectivity. 40
