5 1 Introduction 1 Introduction 1.1 SafeCom Go Kyocera SafeCom Go Kyocera is the internal solution for Kyocera MFPs. It integrates with the touchscreen control panel of the Kyocera MFP and offers user authentication by code and/or card. SafeCom Go Kyocera works together with the SafeCom G4 Server software and is designed to help companies and organizations gain control over their printing costs and document security. The SafeCom solution can be enhanced with addon modules to build customer specific and scalable solutions. 1.2 Requirements SafeCom Go Kyocera supports the models listed here. In order to install SafeCom Go Kyocera on devices via Kyocera Net Viewer, you need Kyocera Net Viewer version 5.3 or later. This can be obtained on the Kyocera web site. All ID devices must be keyboard emulated to work with SafeCom Go Kyocera. Use of ID device requires a Card Authentication Kit (B) license purchased from Kyocera (p/n 1703MT0KL0) and SafeCom ID Device license. Certain Kyocera devices require an additional CompactFlash card. Note: The firmware can be updated to newer versions than the ones listed on the website without preventing SafeCom from working on the devices. To determine the current firmware version on a device print a status report at the device (2.5.10), or see the front page of the admin web interface. For information about the HyPAS API version used by the various device models, see section D

35 4 Troubleshooting 4 Troubleshooting 4.1 Introduction This chapter contains troubleshooting hints for SafeCom Go Kyocera. Additional troubleshooting hints are available in the Troubleshooting chapter in SafeCom G4 Administrator s Manual D SafeCom Help Desk Assistant We want your SafeCom solution to be one that reduces not only print costs, but is also easy to support. In the following you will find useful troubleshoot hints. The most common problems reported by end-users have been compiled into an online SafeCom Help Desk Assistant available at safecom.eu/help 4.3 Installation: Failed to install / Failed to activate This message is displayed in the following scenarios: You tried to install SafeCom Go via the Kyocera Net Viewer. You tried to activate SafeCom Go via the system menu at the device. Certain Kyocera devices require a Compact Flash card to be installed in the device for SafeCom Go Kyocera to be installed and activated. Refer to Table 1 in section 1.2 for a list of such devices. 4.4 At the printer: Out of order This message is displayed when communication is lost to the SafeCom server. Check the following: If you experience problems after consecutive loads of the SafeCom Go Kyocera software to a Kyocera device then power cycle the Kyocera device. Does the Configuration (2.3.1) reference a SafeCom server and is the IP address and Group name correct? Is the SafeCom Service running on the SafeCom server? Is the network down? Is there a firewall blocking communication? Is the printer connected to the network? The message is cleared and the device returns to normal operation by itself a couple of minutes after communication has been restored. D

36 4 Troubleshooting 4.5 At the printer: User unknown The used card (or entered ID code) is unknown. 4.6 At the printer: Login denied Wrong PIN code. The device is not registered. Too many consecutive failed login attempts has caused Prevent login to be checked on the Identification tab in the User properties dialog. If none of the above could be because Windows on the SafeCom server does not allow any more connections. If you also see the message Connection error. Login failed when you try to login to SafeCom Administrator, then restart the computer. 4.7 At the printer: Restricted access The user is not allowed to use the device. A Pay user is trying to login and Pay is not checked on the License tab in the Device properties dialog. 4.8 At the printer: Error printing document Pull Print is cleared on the License tab in the Device properties dialog. Pull Print is cleared on the Settings tab in the Device properties dialog. 4.9 At the printer: Question mark before the document name The list of supported printer drivers does not include an entry matching the driver you used. Use the web browser to add the driver name to the list At the printer: Login error <number> Is SafeCom Service running on the SafeCom server? Is the SafeCom device registered at the SafeCom server? 4.11 At the printer: Incorrect Login User Name or Password Make sure that Unknown ID job is set to Permit under User Login/Job accounting (2.2). D

37 4 Troubleshooting 4.12 At the printer: Card reader not working If the card reader is connected before the SafeCom Go Kyocera software is installed, the display may show the message: Cannot recognize the ID card reader. Does the device have a Kyocera CAK license? Is the card reader firmly connected? Is the card compatible with the reader? Try to move the card reader away from the printer to check that if it is electrical interference that prevents the reader from working Tracking information The format of the tracking data is documented in SafeCom G4 Administrator s Manual D If an attempt is made to disconnect or otherwise tamper with the device to avoid tracking, then jobs are recorded with an Interrupted tracking state instead of Completed. Canceled documents are also tracked as Interrupted. If Post Track is enabled, the tracking record for print jobs is adjusted to reflect what was actually printed. However, if the job is interrupted the tracking record is not adjusted and will reflect the tracking data that was determined when the documented was processed in the print queue Tracking of blank pages Kyocera devices can be configured to either print or not print blank pages. In order to get correct tracking data we highly recommend that the Kyocera device print blank pages. The blank page is tracked as one mono impression and one sheet. If the blank page is printed on duplex, only one mono impression and one sheet is tracked. D
