14 LRIT Impact on data reporting and polling The effect of the migration is that the footprint of Ocean Regions will move in a westerly direction. A terminal logged into the migrating region may find itself out of coverage after the migration and must log into another region. Mobile users that reside in the area that will not be covered by the new footprint Ocean Region after migration are encouraged to switch the terminal to another region before the migration occurs.

15 LRIT Impact on terrestrial side On the shore side, nothing will change. Data Reports will continue to be delivered according to the DNID configuration of the Ocean Region the terminal resides in. If the DNID is setup for an Ocean region that the terminal can no longer see it will need to be updated. Also for sending Polls to the terminals, no changes are expected.

16 Safety First Extensive preparations and close supervision Inmarsat has been working closely with Land Earth Station Operators (LESOs) and Distribution Partners (DPs) since 2015 to plan the migration process and reduce to a minimum any potential impact on end-users terminals and applications. LRIT, GMDSS and Maritime Safety Services will be closely monitored by International Mobile Satellite Organisation (IMSO) during the migration. Safety services will be restored first with the highest priority.
