2 NOTIFICATION The Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India vides its Notification No.F-23-2/2001-TS.III dated 24th November, 2006 has given recognition to the Section A & B of Associate Membership courses, equivalent to degree and Part-I & II of Technician Engineers (T) equivalent to Diploma in Mechanical Engineering course conducted by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (India) as per syllabus approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for the purpose of employment to the posts & services under Central Government in the respective field. Admissions are open for the Mechanical Engineering, for the candidates who are engaged in appropriate field and want to enhance their qualification. 17 In order to obtain more academic freedom and strengthen the specialized programme of teaching, research and extension, a proposal was submitted to the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, on 31st August 1994, for granting the Deemed University status to the Institute. Later, on 15th and 16th May 1997, a team of experts appointed by the University Grants Commission visited the Institute. It was encouraging to learn about the report submitted by the visiting team to the Commission that the Institute has all infrastructural and academic means for granting the Deemed University status. On March 15, 2000, Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India, approved the recommendations of the University Grants Commission and declared Allahabad Agricultural Institute as Deemed University vide notification No.F.9-26/94-U.3 dated March 15, Further, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) an autonomous Institution of the University Grants Commission has in the year 2005, accrediated the University at the B++ Level (80-85%). The University has also acquired the Membership of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and of Indian Agricultural Universities Association (IAUA). The Distance Education Programme of the University has been approved by the Joint Committee of UGC-AICTE-DEC, New Delhi.
